Solvent-induced supramolecular isomers, structural diversity, and unprecedented in situ formation of both inorganic and organic ions in inorganic–organic mercury(ii) complexes

Reported here is, for the first time, an important study of solvent effect on structural diversity in inorganic-organic mercury(II) complexes. As a result, the first supramolecular isomer in mercury(II) complexes is obtained. Importantly, a previously unobserved in situ generation of both inorganic (Cl(-)) and organic ([CH(3)-L1-CH(3)](2+)) ions was also observed.

Multifunctional 3-Fold Interpenetrated Porous Metal–Organic Frameworks Composed of Unprecedented Self-Catenated Networks

A 3-fold interpenetrating porous metal–organic framework, namely, Zn(bdc)(L)·solvents (1, L = N4,N4′-di(pyridin-4-yl)biphenyl-4,4′-dicarboxamide, H2bdc = terephthalic acid), composed of self-catenated nets with unprecedented hxg-d-4-Fddd topology is reported. Upon removal of guest molecules, the crystal lattice is unaffected, and the resulting permanent porosity can be applied for gas chromatography separation of various organic molecules. Furthermore, remarkable tunable photoluminescence and direct white emission dependent on excitation wavelength, as well as visible light photocatalytic activity, are also observed, creating a new multifunctional material antetype.

Applications of Metal-Organic Frameworks in Sample Preparation

Metal-organic frameworks(MOFs),also called porous coordination polymers(PCPs),were organic inorganic hybrid solids with infinite,uniform framework structures built from organic linkers and inorganic metal nodes via coordination bonds.Owing to the high surface area,good thermal stability,mechanical,chemical stability and tunable cavity,MOFs exhibited the attractive prospects in sample preparation.The main progresses made in the field of MOFs for sample preparation were reviewed and summarized.In order to get comprehensive understanding of the MOFs for sample preparation,the development of sampling and preconcentration,solid-phase extraction and micro-solid-phase extraction was focused.

Applications of Metal-organic Frameworks in Analytical Chemistry

Metal-organic frameworks(MOFs),as a new type of porous solids,attracted extensive concerns of chemists owing to the high surface area,good thermal stability,chemical stability,and so on.The chemical and structural of MOFs made them potentially candidates for applications in analytical chemistry.The main progresses made in the field of two MOFs were reviewed and summarized.In order to get comprehensive understanding of two MOFs for analytical chemistry,the categories of MOFs for applications in analytical chemistry were introduced.The applications of two MOFs in gas or liquid chromatographic separation and sample preparation were focused on.The development of MOF materials in analytical chemistry and its applications trend were also prospected.

[Zn5(PO4)(HPO4)4(Hbpy)2(bpy)][H2PO4]·H2O: a novel inorganic–organic metal-phosphate framework showing an unprecedented (3,4)-connected (4·62)6(4·62·103)2(64·102)2 topology and the coexistence of various phosphates

Via solvo(hydro)thermal synthesis, a novel three-dimensional inorganic–organic Zn(II)-phosphate framework, namely [Zn5(PO4)(HPO4)4(Hbpy)2(bpy)][H2PO4]·H2O (1, bpy = 4,4′-bipyridine), was obtained. The connectivity of Zn(II) ions, PO43−, and HPO42− groups creates a 2-D anionic layer with a previously unobserved (4·62)8(64·102)2 topology matrix in the ab-plane, which is further supported by partial bpy ligands, resulting in the overall 3D charge-positive layer-pillared framework with an unprecedented (3,4)-connected (4·62)6 (4·62·103)2(64·102)2 topology. To balance the net cationic charge of the framework, an extra framework anion like H2PO4− is encapsulated in the void space, in which guest water molecules are also located.

Framework isomers controlled by the speed of crystallization: different aggregation fashions of Zn(ii) and 1,2,4-triazol-3-amine, distinct (3,4)-connected self-penetrating nets, and various pore shapes

In this work, we report two exceptional framework isomers, Zn(L)(bdc)(0.5)·0.25H2O (1, HL = 1,2,4-triazol-3-amine, H2bdc = terephthalic acid) and Zn(L)(bdc)(0.5)·0.17H2O (2), where their formation is controlled by different speeds of crystallization. Further structural studies reveal that this operation of controlling the speed of crystallization may play a profound role in determining the aggregation fashions of Zn(II) ions and L(-) ligands, resulting in the various layers, viz. a 4·8(2) net vs. a 4·6·12 net. Importantly, this work also presents two previously unobserved (3,4)-connected self-penetrating matrixes.
