Analysis of heat transfer and irreversibility of organic rankine cycle evaporator for selecting working fluid and operating conditions

Organic Rankine cycle (ORC) is suitable to converting the normally hard to utilize low temperature thermal energies, such as geothermal energy, solar energy, and industrial waste heat, to electricity through utilizing low boiling organic working fluids. The performance of ORC system is dramatically affected by the selections of working fluid and working conditions. As a key component of waste heat recovery, the irreversible loss of evaporator also has great influence on the performance of ORC system. In this paper, we study the heat transfer performance in evaporator under the condition that the heat source parameters and pinch point temperature difference are identified. It is found that the heat transfer performance is affected by Cr, the ratio of heat capacity flow rates between the working fluid and the heat source fluid. The equivalent thermal resistance, deducing from the concept of entransy, to measure the irreversability during the heat transfer process is used. Then, the parameter ?r, the ratio between latent heat and sensible heat of working fluid is defined. With the parameters Cr and ?r, we investigate the relationship between the heat transfer and irreversible loss, and deduce the condition that maximum heat transfer and minimum equivalent thermal resistance occurs. Finally, a calculation method is established to choose the optimum working fluid and the evaporation condition.

Low intensity beam current measurement of the Associated Proton Beam Line at CSNS

Abstract The Associated Proton beam Experiment Platform (APEP) beamline is the first proton irradiation facility to use naturally-stripped protons which come from H-beams interacting with the residual gas in the linac beampipe at CSNS. The stripped beam current, which is in the order of 0.1% of the original H-beam and approximately 10 μA, should be measured precisely to provide the proton number for irradiation experiments. Therefore, a low-intensity beam current measurement system was developed with considerations to eliminate the external interferences. An anti-interference design is adopted in this system with an elaboration of probes, cables and electronic low-noise technology to minimize the impact of environmental noise and interferences. This improves the signal-to-noise ratio and enables a more precise measurement of the microampere level pulsed beam current. The system was installed and tested during the summer maintenance in 2021 and 2022. It shows a good agreement with the measurement of the Faraday cup.

Long-tailed Distribution Adaptation

Recognizing images with long-tailed distributions remains a challenging problem while there lacks an interpretable mechanism to solve this problem. In this study, we formulate Long-tailed recognition as Domain Adaption (LDA), by modeling the long-tailed distribution as an unbalanced domain and the general distribution as a balanced domain. Within the balanced domain, we propose to slack the generalization error bound, which is defined upon the empirical risks of unbalanced and balanced domains and the divergence between them. We propose to jointly optimize empirical risks of the unbalanced and balanced domains and approximate their domain divergence by intra-class and inter-class distances, with the aim to adapt models trained on the long-tailed distribution to general distributions in an interpretable way. Experiments on benchmark datasets for image recognition, object detection, and instance segmentation validate that our LDA approach, beyond its interpretability, achieves state-of-the-art performance. Identifying Data Quality/Information Quality Research: Framework and Evolution

Over the past three decades, data quality/ information quality (DQ/ IQ) is emerging into a possible distinct discipline. As the research overlaps with other disciplines or research fields such as IS, Marketing, Computing Science, etc., it is important to identify the core characteristics of DQ/IQ research and to study its development over time. Although scholars have make contribution to the identity of DQ/ IQ research through qualitative and quantity approaches, there is lacking of a more objective approach that comprehensively studies the identity and evolution of DQ/ IQ research. In this study, Latent semantic analysis (LSA) approach was used to identify the core areas and evolution of DQ/IQ research field. Relevant keywords from selected 317 journal papers and conference proceeding papers during 1976 through 2012 were analyzed. We identified five core research areas of DQ/ IQ that have emerged from the research literature in the last 36 years: (1) assessment of DQ/ IQ; (2) computing and technological aspect of DQ/ IQ; (3) DQ/ IQ system application; (4) organizational level impact of DQ/IQ; (5) data process management of DQ/ IQ. By examining the evolution of DQ/ IQ research over the past 36 years, we found that the core areas have remained stable, but the topics within each core area appeared and disappeared over time. We conclude that DQ/IQ research has remained relatively stable by focusing on the DQ/IQ research cycle of data/ information management: technology ¨ application ¨ process management ¨ assessment ¨ impact. Insights and suggestions are discussed and presented finally for future research.

Spectral diagnosis assisted underwater wet welding plasma composition calculation

There has been very little calculation of the composition of underwater wet welding plasma. The article collects and analyzes the arc spectral information by setting up an underwater wet welding experiment platform. Based on the results of the diagnosis and the study of the bubble composition, the particles considered in the calculation were determined. On this basis, Analysis of the equilibrium equation of underwater arc welding by arc plasma, Based on the law of mass action, five basic particles are selected, and other particles are represented by these five basic particles, substituted into the conservation equations, and the number density of each particle is calculated under specific pressure and temperature. This method and the traditional method of solving the Saha equation and other conservation equations to obtain different plasma particle density. The results show that the particles occupying the main components in different temperature zones have different effects on arc plasma. It can provide theoretical basis and basis for further study of underwater wet welding arc stability and welding quality, and can also be combined with spectral information for temperature calculation and particle determination in main temperature range.
