First application of combined isochronous and Schottky mass spectrometry: Half-lives of fully ionized Cr24+49 and Fe26

Lifetime measurements of $\ensuremath{\beta}$-decaying highly charged ions have been performed in the experimental storage ring (CSRe) by applying the isochronous Schottky mass spectrometry. The fully ionized $^{49}\mathrm{Cr}$ and $^{53}\mathrm{Fe}$ ions were produced in projectile fragmentation of $^{58}\mathrm{Ni}$ primary beam and were stored in the CSRe tuned into the isochronous ion-optical mode. The new resonant Schottky detector was applied to monitor the intensities of stored uncooled $^{49}\mathrm{Cr}^{24+}$ and $^{53}\mathrm{Fe}^{26+}$ ions. The extracted half-lives ${T}_{1/2}(^{49}\mathrm{Cr}^{24+})=44.0(27)$ min and ${T}_{1/2}(^{53}\mathrm{Fe}^{26+})=8.47(19)$ min are in excellent agreement with the literature half-life values corrected for the disabled electron capture branchings. This is an important proof-of-principle step towards realizing the simultaneous mass and lifetime measurements on exotic nuclei at the future storage ring facilities.

Reverse recovery characteristics of high power thyristors in HVDC converter valve

The reverse recovery characteristics of high power thyristor are important device physical properties influencing the reliable operation of HVDC thyristor valve. In this paper, the reverse recovery characteristics of high power thyristor are investigated from the aspects of both external circuit and internal device physics. By analyzing the depletion of carrier during the reverse recovery of thyristors, a determination method of minority carrier lifetime is proposed to construct a connection between the macroscopic reverse recovery characteristics and the microscopic device physical parameter such as minority carrier lifetime. Meanwhile, the influence of the current with a power frequency on the characteristics of reverse recovery especially on the reverse recovery time is investigated experimentally, and the relationship between external circuit and internal physical property is discussed. The results show that thyristor reverse recovery storage time is independent of sinusoidal currents under power frequency, which is approximately equal to its minority carrier lifetime in the base region of high power thyristors; Finally, the influences of reverse recovery characteristics on the protection strategy of thyristor unit are analyzed, and the related methods of thyristor unit routine test are also discussed. This work will be beneficial to the operational maintenance of thyristor valve in power system.

Development of the readout electronics for the HIRFL-CSR array detectors

This paper presents the readout electronics for the array detectors in the external target facility of the HIRFL-CSR. The readout system is divided into readout partitions, each of which includes four Front-end Cards (FECs) and one Readout Control Unit (RCU). The FEC measures the energy of the particle hit on the detectors and converts it into current signal. The RCU processes the triggers from the central trigger unit, digitizes the raw signal from the FECs, performs data processing algorithms and transmits the data to the data acquisition system in a specified format. The readout electronics has been characterized in the lab and installed in the detectors. The design, implementation and test of the readout electronics has been discussed.

Research on Routine Test of Thyristor Level with TCU in HVDC Converter Valve

Converter valve is the key equipment in HVDC project, and its performance has a tremendous influence on the reliability, stability and efficiency of the whole power system. Thyristor level unit is the basic unit of HVDC converter valve, so each thyristor level unit needs to be tested routinely before the operation of the power system, which results in huge workloads and high costs. At present, there is no specific test scheme for thyristor level unit with thyristor control unit (TCU). Therefore, it is particularly important to systematically establish the test methods for thyristor level with TCU in order to improve the security and offer technical support for operation and maintenance of converter valve. In this paper, based on the analysis of the electrical principle of the thyristor level unit and IEC 60700-1-2008, the contents and method of routine test for thyristor level unit with TCU are presented, and subsequently adopted in a practical HVDC project to verify its rationality and validity.

Two-neutron removal cross sections from C15,16 at around 240 MeV/nucleon

The cross sections for two-neutron removal from $^{15,16}\mathrm{C}$ on a carbon target have been measured at around 240 MeV/nucleon. The measured cross section for $^{15}\mathrm{C}$ is smaller than for $^{16}\mathrm{C}$. The trends of the cross sections for $^{15,16}\mathrm{C}$ are inconsistent with the previously reported experimental data, but in agreement with the theoretical predictions based on eikonal-model calculations. Based on the present results of $^{15,16}\mathrm{C}$ combined with the available experimental data on $^{17--20}\mathrm{C}$, an odd-even staggering of the two-neutron removal cross sections along the neutron-rich carbon isotopic chain from $^{15}\mathrm{C}$ to $^{20}\mathrm{C}$ is observed, and this feature is well reproduced by the theoretical calculations.
