The realization of robust strong coupling and entanglement between distant quantum emitters (QEs) is necessary for scalable quantum-information processes. However, it is hard to achieve it based on conventional systems. Here, we propose theoretically and demonstrate numerically a scheme to realize such strong coupling and entanglement. Our scheme is based on the photonic crystal platform with topologically protected edge state and zero-dimensional topological corner cavities. When the QEs are put into topological cavities, the strong coupling between them can be fulfilled with the assistance of the topologically protected interface state. Such a strong coupling can maintain a very long distance and be robust against various defects. In particular, we numerically prove that the topologically protected entanglement between two QEs can also be realized. Moreover, the duration of quantum beats for such entanglement can reach several orders longer than that for the entanglement in a conventional photonic cavity, making it beneficial for a scalable quantum-information process.
Regional development differences are a universal problem in the economic development process of countries around the world. In recent decades, China has experienced rapid urban development since the implementation of the reform and opening-up policy. However, development differs across regions, triggering the migration of laborers from underdeveloped areas to developed areas. The interaction between regional development differences and Spring Festival has formed the world’s largest cyclical migration phenomenon, Spring Festival travel. Studying the migration pattern from public spatiotemporal behavior can contribute to understanding the differences in regional development. This paper proposes a geospatial network analytical framework to quantitatively characterize the imbalance of urban/regional development based on Spring Festival travel from the perspectives of complex network science and geospatial science. Firstly, the urban development difference is explored based on the intercity population flow difference ratio, PageRank algorithm, and attractiveness index. Secondly, the community detection method and rich-club coefficient are applied to further observe the spatial interactions between cities. Finally, the regional importance index and attractiveness index are used to reveal the regional development imbalance. The methods and findings can be used for urban planning, poverty alleviation, and population studies.

d-Ribose is active in glycation and rapidly produces advanced glycation end products, leading to cell death and to cognitive impairment in mice. Glycated serum protein (GSP) is a relatively short-term biomarker for glycemic control in diabetes mellitus. However, whether d-ribose is related to GSP is unclear. The aim of this work was to identify the contribution of d-ribose to GSP compared to d-glucose. Here, we showed that the yield of glycated human serum albumin with d-ribose was at least two-fold higher than that with d-glucose in a 2-week incubation. The glycation of human serum albumin (HSA) with d-ribose was much faster than that with d-glucose, as determined by monitoring changes in the fluorescent intensity of glycation products with time. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry revealed that 17 and 7 lysine residues on HSA were glycated in the presence of d-ribose and d-glucose, respectively, even when the concentration ratio [d-ribose]/[d-glucose] was 1/50. The intraperitoneal injection of d-ribose significantly increased the GSP levels in Sprague Dawley rats, but the injection of d-glucose did not. The level of d-ribose was more positively associated with GSP than the level of d-glucose in streptozotocin-treated rats. In diabetic patients, the levels of both d-ribose and d-glucose were closely related to the level of GSP. Together, these in vitro and in vivo findings indicated that d-ribose is an important contributor to the glycation of serum protein, compared to d-glucose. To assess GSP levels in diabetes mellitus, we should consider the contribution from d-ribose, which plays a nonnegligible role.

At present, quite a number of China’s college young teachers have weakened or lost their ideals and beliefs, degenerated professional ethics, and problems concerning with education quality and academic integrity have occurred from time to time. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the ideals and beliefs education of college young teachers. However, previous researches on the ideals and beliefs education of college young teachers and its countermeasures mainly focused on one or several colleges and universities, and failed to put forward suggestions for improvement applicable to colleges and universities across the country. Based on inductive analysis of previous researches in the past 30 years, combined with experiences of the author of this paper, it is found that the root causes of the current problems of the ideals and beliefs education of college young teachers mainly come from three aspects: society, young teacher and higher education institution, hence three approaches for strengthening the ideals and beliefs education of China’s college young teachers are proposed. First of all, it is necessary to vigorously promote college young teachers to participate in social practice, to facilitate their objective understanding of social reality and establishing proper ideals and beliefs; secondly, take advantage of Internet technology and adopt a variety of online and offline effective methods to carry out ideological education for young teachers to enhance their identification of the ideals and beliefs advocated; and thirdly, colleges and universities need to improve their evaluation system, adopt an assessment model with equal emphasis on teaching and scientific research and ideals and beliefs, so as to guide young teachers to attach importance to the improvement of their own ideals and beliefs. Colleges and universities also need to combine ideals and beliefs education with solving young teachers’ practical problems in order to enhance the persuasive power of ideals and beliefs education and thus improve the effect of ideals and beliefs education. This paper points out the three root causes of the problem, and proposes three approaches from a macro perspective, hoping that it may inspire the ideals and beliefs education work of young teachers in Chinese colleges and universities.
