A Concerted H‐Bonding Self‐Assembly‐Based Approach to Ladder Poly(silsesquioxane)

Abstract Summary: A soluble, regular, ethoxy‐capped, ladder poly(silsesquioxane) ( EtO‐LPOAS ) has been successfully synthesized by means of the concerted H‐bonding template of silanol and amido groups, through a new template monomer M : tetraethoxy disiloxane bisamide compound. EtO‐LPOAS was characterized by X‐ray diffraction (XRD), 29 Si NMR spectroscopy and DSC measurements. The results confirm the presence of the regular, ladder structure of EtO‐LPOAS . This synthetic method has opened a new route to other new kinds of functional ladder poly(silsesquioxane)s. Modification of sol-air temperature calculation model in high altitude area: A case study in Lhasa of China

As a key parameter for thermal design of civil buildings, sol-air temperature has been defined in current code (GB50716-2016), assuming that the exterior surface coefficient of heat transfer of the building envelope is constant and the effect of sky long-wave radiation can be ignored. Lhasa with an attitude of 3650 m is selected as a representative city, to address the modifications due to local wind speed, low air pressure and strong sky long-wave radiation. The results show that compared with the values calculated by current code, the sol-air temperature in Lhasa decreases by 3.2℃ on the vertical surface and 7.6℃ on the horizontal surface during the heating period.

A new acylamide coordination polymer, namely Cd(L)0.5(NDC) (1), was prepared by the hydrothermal self-assembly of Cd(NO3)2, N,N′-bis-(3-pyridyl)terephthalamide (L) and naphthalene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid (H2NDC). The outstanding structural feature is an unprecedented (4,8)-connected gsp2 topology with the topological symbol (4462)(416612).

Direct Fabrication of Nanoscale Light Emitting Diode on Silicon Probe Tip for Scanning Microscopy

We have fabricated a silicon microprobe integrated with a nanometer-sized light emitting diode (Nano-LED) on the tip. This paper describes the fabrication procedure and preliminary topographic testing results. The silicon probe with electrode pattern was made by wet-etching a silicon-on-insulator wafer using oxide as the mask. Subsequently, the probe tip was cut using a focused ion beam (FIB) to form a 150 nm-wide gap. Semiconductor nanoparticles (CdSe/ZnS core-shell nanoparticles) were electrostatically trapped and excited within the electrode gap made on the probe tip. The LED-tip is approximately 150 nm 150 nm. The nano-LED light intensity and current were measured as a function of the driving voltage up to 25 V. In addition to the electroluminescence peaks from the CdSe particles, possible emission from silicon dioxide doped in the FIB milling process was also observed in the measured spectra. Basic mechanical characteristics of the silicon probe were measured by mounting the probe on a tuning fork in a standard near-field scanning optical microscopy (NSOM) set up. It was observed that the drag force reduces the probe oscillation as the vibrating tip approached the near-field of the sample surface. The topographic images of a chromium test pattern on a glass substrate were successfully acquired by keeping the probe tip within roughly 5 nm from the sample surface. Although the probe tip shape and the location of the Nano-LED are yet to be further optimized before realizing near-field optical scanning experiment, the result showed its great promise as a new type of NSOM tip with the ldquoon-proberdquo light-source.

Provenance of late Paleozoic and Mesozoic clastic sediments of Taimyr and their significance for understanding Arctic tectonics

The Taimyr Peninsula is a key element in the circum-Arctic region and represents the northern margin of the Siberian Craton. The Taimyr Peninsula preserves late Paleozoic through Mesozoic clasitic sedimentary successions in its Mesozoic fold belt, providing an ideal location to investigate the Mesozoic tectonic evolution associated with the opening of Amerasia Basin within a circum-Arctic framework. This thesis aims to establish the tectonic setting in which the late Paleozoic through Mesozoic sediments of Taimyr were deposited, in order to correlate Taimyr with other Arctic terranes utilizing provenance investigations. Multiple methods are adopted, including petrography, heavy mineral analysis and detrital zircon U-Pb geochronology. The preliminary results of this work indicate that the late Paleozoic sediments of southern Taimyr were deposited in a foreland basin of the Uralian orogen during Uralian orogeny. The final collision between Baltica and Siberia in the last stage of Uralian orogenesis occurred between Early and Late Permian. Early Cretaceous sediments in northern Taimyr were mainly derived from Siberian Trap-related magmatism in Taimyr. Cretaceous sediment deposition is unrelated to Jurassic to Cretaceous rifting associated with the Verkhoyansk fold belt and instead relates to a rifting or post-rifting passive margin setting.

Timing of exhumation and deformation across the Taimyr fold–thrust belt: insights from apatite fission track dating and balanced cross-sections

Abstract The exhumation and shortening history associated with the Taimyr fold–thrust belt is determined using apatite fission track and balanced cross-section analysis. Eighteen samples from across northern, central and southern Taimyr are used for apatite fission track analysis. These include granite, meta-arenite and sandstone samples with stratigraphic ages ranging from the late Proterozoic to Early Cretaceous. Fission track lengths and central ages are used to model the thermal history of the region and indicate three episodes of cooling in the Early Permian, earliest Triassic and Late Triassic. The thermochronological data are integrated with two balanced regional cross-sections. The regional structural style of deformation reflects a thick-skinned thrust system with 15% shortening (minimum estimate). This is consistent with thickening during early Permian Uralian orogenesis, followed by later heating, uplift and cooling associated with Siberian Trap magmatism and/or Mesozoic transpression.
