본 연구는 초등학생의 논리성 향상을 위해 파이썬을 활용한 탐색 알고리즘 기반 수행시간 비교 및 분석 교육 프로그램을 개발하고 적용하여 그 효과를 분석했다. 본 교육 프로그램은 ○○도내 초등학교 6학년 133명을 대상 으로 실시한 사전 요구분석 결과를 활용하였고, ADDIE 모형의 절차에 따라 개발하였다. 개발한 교육 프로그램 의 효과를 검증하기 위해서 ○○대학교에서 실시한 교육기부 프로그램의 지원자 25명을 대상으로 6일간 42차시 수업을 진행하였고, GALT검사를 통해 교육의 사전⋅사후 효과를 비교⋅분석하였다. 분석해 본 결과, 본 연구에 서 개발한 SW교육 프로그램이 초등학생의 논리성에 긍정적인 영향을 줄 수 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다.
The paper-and-pencil programming strategy (PPS) is a way of representing an idea logically by any representation that can be created using paper and pencil. It was developed for non-computer majors to improve their understanding and use of computational thinking and increase interest in learning computer science. A total of 110 non-majors in their sophomore year were assigned to either a Logo or a PPS course with attendance being 2 hours per week for 15 weeks. To measure the effectiveness of PPS, the Group Assessment of Logical Thinking and a self-assessment survey pre- and post-test were used. Findings indicated that PPS not only improved students' overall logical thinking as much as did Logo programming learning, but also increased scores on one more subscale of logical thinking than did the Logo course. In addition, PPS significantly helped students understand the concept of computational thinking and increased their interest in learning computer science.
빠른 웹 정보의 변화에 잘 대응하기 위해서는, 사실과 지식이 실제로 유효한 시간과 장소들도 함께 표현하고 그들 간의 관계도 추론할 수 있도록 웹 기술의 확장이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 그동안 소규모 지식 베이스를 이용한 실험실 수준의 정성 시간 추론 연구들에서 벗어나, 웹 스케일의 대규모 지식 베이스를 추론할 수 있는 병렬 정성 시간 추론기인 MRQUTER의 설계와 구현을 소개한다. Hadoop 클러스터 시스템과 MapReduce 병렬 프로그래밍 프레임워크를 이용해 개발된 MRQUTER에서는 정성 시간 추론 과정을 인코딩 및 디코딩 작업, 역 관계 및 동일 관계 추론 작업, 이행 관계 추론 작업, 관계 정제 작업 등 몇 개의 MapReduce 작업으로 나누고, 맵 함수와 리듀스 함수로 구현되는 각각의 단위 추론 작업을 효율화하기 위한 최적화 기술들을 적용하였다. 대규모 벤치마킹 시간 지식 베이스를 이용한 실험을 통해, MRQUTER의 높은 추론 성능과 확장성을 확인하였다. In order to meet rapid changes of Web information, it is necessary to extend the current Web technologies to represent both the valid time and location of each fact and knowledge, and reason their relationships. Until recently, many researches on qualitative temporal reasoning have been conducted in laboratory-scale, dealing with small knowledge bases. However, in this paper, we propose the design and implementation of a parallel qualitative temporal reasoner, MRQUTER, which can make reasoning over Web-scale large knowledge bases. This parallel temporal reasoner was built on a Hadoop cluster system using the MapReduce parallel programming framework. It decomposes the entire qualitative temporal reasoning process into several MapReduce jobs such as the encoding and decoding job, the inverse and equal reasoning job, the transitive reasoning job, the refining job, and applies some optimization techniques into each component reasoning job implemented with a pair of Map and Reduce functions. Through experiments using large benchmarking temporal knowledge bases, MRQUTER shows high reasoning performance and scalability.
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to understand the corporate sustainability culture of contracting firms, particularly in the Midwest. Many of the local firms operate nationally. The local corporate culture influences their regional offices. Other than convenience, the firms are selected from Midwest since their headquarters are situated in Midwest region and comprises of more number of employees than their other regional offices. This helped the research to approach more contractors for better survey and interview responses. The paper documents the study on existing management and construction practices these contractors adopt on sustainability and examines how their sustainability efforts influence the firms’ performances. Design/methodology/approach This research utilized surveys and interviews as the primary means of data collection. The data were collected from survey and interviews with selected companies operating in the Midwest region of the USA. One of the companies also operates offices across the country. Data from the interviews and surveys were analyzed using statistical analysis system software application. χ 2 analysis, particularly the frequency procedures using the Cochran-Mantel-Haenszel (CMH) method was the primary analysis method used to study the relationships between different factors. The CMH method compares the association between and within two groups and permits adjustments of the control variables. Findings The findings of this paper include the results from various Midwest commercial building contractors. The results on different aspects of sustainable practices and their success rates among the contractors are determined and discussed, and future scope of improvements are mentioned at the conclusion of this paper. Research limitations/implications In summary, sustainable business practices are beneficial to society and favorable for the construction business. Embracing sustainable business practices has a positive impact on firm strategic performance for commercial building contractors through employee satisfaction, project opportunities, and market advantage. Sustainable business practices extend into the lives of individuals involved which exceedingly impacts society. The construction industry has advanced sustainability efforts, but there is a long way to go on the journey to being better stewards of the environment and resources. Originality/value A rival theory became apparent during the investigation that a new building consolidating all local company employees could have an impact on firm strategic performance. Third, this paper is confounded by a great recession that made project opportunities and revenue considerations analysis problematic. Some information regarding these aspects were helpful; however, expanding this paper during a more stable and typical economic period could provide additional insight.
