Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignancies worldwide. In the clinical realm, platinum-based drugs hold an important role in the chemotherapy of CRC. Nonetheless, a multitude of patients, due to tumor protein 53 (
CD146 has been regarded as a novel potential therapeutic target for multiple cancers. The aim of the study was to investigate the expression of CD146 in gastric cancer and evaluate its clinical-pathological and prognostic significance. The expression of CD146 and three epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-related proteins (E-cadherin, β-catenin and vimentin) was examined in 144 gastric cancers by immunohistochemistry. Fifty-nine cases (41.0%) were defined as positive for CD146 expression. We found that CD146 expression correlated positively with lymph node involvement and a poor prognosis, and retained an independent prognostic factor for gastric cancer patients. Furthermore, positive expression of CD146 was strongly associated with loss of the epithelial marker E-cadherin and acquisition of the expression of the mesenchymal markers nuclear β-catenin and vimentin. These findings suggest that CD146 might promote EMT and progression in gastric cancer, and thus may be a potential therapeutic target for patients with gastric cancers.
Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics, management and prognosis of choriocarcinoma in postmenopausal women. Methods Six cases of choriocarcinoma in postmenopausal women were reviewed retrospectively. Results Four cases in the 6 patients presented with abnormal vaginal bleeding. All of the six cases received chemotherapy and four cases underwent hysterectomy. Three cases achieved complete remission, one partial remission, one stable condition, and one disease progression. One case died, two cases lost follow-up and three cases survived as follow-up so far. Conclusion The diagnosis of pregnancy-related disease should be considered in the elderly women presenting with abnormal vaginal bleeding.Once diagnosed, chemotherapy should be given as soon as possible. Satisfactory effects can be achieved with a combination therapy of chemotherapy and surgery.
In the present report, the case of a 60-year-old man who presented with syncope secondary to chronic thromboemboli of the main pulmonary arteries and pulmonary arterioles is described.
Objective The aim of this study is to discuss the operative technique of repairing the defect after incising big nail skin flap. Methods Ten patients had been operated with a big nail skin flap, and the undermined defects were treated with a reverse tibial periosteal flap. Results In all implanted patients, the tibial periosteal flap had good texture, scanty subcutaneous fat, good contour anti-friction, and no complications. Conclusion This method could preserve most functions of the big nail. It is worthy to recommend this operation to transfer the tibial periosteal flap for the repair of the defect after incising the big nail skin flap.
