Guide-Eye Feature for Ureteral Instrumentation

Common ureteral instruments (stone basket, ureteral catheter, balloon dilator, stent) and ureteroscopes have been equipped with a distal eye to enable them to track alongside a guidewire rather than over it, thereby enhancing the utility of the in situ guidewire for a variety of endourologic manipulations. These "guide-eyed" instruments have facilitated repetitive stone basket access past obstructions, have simplified sequential instrument placement, and have permitted simultaneous coordinated instrument placement during retrograde stone removal and stent insertion. The guide-eye feature has enhanced both the function and the access capability of common ureteral instruments.

Neutron and gamma spectra in delayed neutron decay of some fission products

From spring meeting of the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft. Part A, nuclear physics; Heidelberg, Germany (19 Feb By use of fast radiochemical separation methods, (separation time: 24 sec), several short-lived isotopes of As, Se, Br, Te, and I were isolated from /sup 235/U fission products and identified as emitters of delayed neutrons. With the new high pressure, high resolution /sup 3/He(n,p) spectrometers, the delayed neutron spectra of /sup 85/ As (T/sub 1/2 = 2.0 sec) and /sup 87/Br (T/sub 1/2 = 55 sec) were measured along wi th the gamma spectra up to energies above the neutron binding energy. The results are discussed under the following aspects: systematics of the neutron emission probabilities, preferred population of energy levels in BETA --decay within the range of high level density, competition of neutron and gamma emission, neutron-emitting decay into excited energy states of the daughter nuclide. Intramuscular myxoma of the left forearm.

Intramuscular myxoma is a distinct benign tumor confined to muscles. This tumor usually favors the thigh and shoulder. We are reporting a case of intramuscular myxoma of the forearm in an elderly female, a very rare site for this tumor. The magnetic resonance features of intramuscular myxoma are described. The differential diagnosis that included acute hematoma, acute abscess, intramuscular synovial cyst, schwannoma and malignant soft tissue tumors with myxomatous degeneration is discussed. The association between intramuscular myxomas and fibrous dysplasia has been emphasized.

Splenic Scintiscans With Merisoprol Hg 197

A new radiopharmaceutical, merisoprol Hg 197, permits visualization of the spleen with a reliability, speed, and simplicity hitherto impossible with other agents. Forty-two scintiscans performed on 35 patients have proved useful in assessing splenic size, shape, and position, in demonstrating focal abnormalities, and in differentiating left upper abdominal masses. In this group, however, the spleen scan has played its most valuable role as a sensitive method of following splenic response to therapeutic regimens in those patients suffering from disorders of the hematopoietic system. Morbidity incident to spleen scanning with this new agent was nil.
