The Diamond Compton Recoil Telescope (DCRT) is proposed for gammaray measurement in the 10 keV to 10 MeV range. A concept of the DCRT is constructed of position sensitive layers of diamond-striped detector and calorimeter layer of CdTe detector. The key part of the DCRT is diamond-striped detectors with a higher positional resolution and a wider energy range than silicon detectors. We have developed and tested the diamond detectors. In this paper, we discuss the performance of diamond detector and the design of DCRT.
The role of thrombin as a spasmogen after subarachnoid hemorrhage was evaluated using the intrathecally administered thrombin inhibitor hirudin, released from a drug delivery system (DDS) based on collagen in a canine vasospasm model. The DDS was implanted into the cisterna magna with autologous blood in the hirudin-treated group. The reduction in the angiographical diameter of the basilar artery was only 19% in the hirudin-treated group on day 7, showing a significant difference between hirudin-treated and nontreated groups (p < 0.01). These results suggest that thrombin is an important cause of vasospasm. The collagen DDS has great potential for treatment in the cerebrospinal fluid milieu.
The reaction of quinazoline-2,4(1H,3H)-dione with N-allyl, N-benzyl and N-methyl cyclic amines in combination with phosphoryl trichloride in the presence of tripropylamine in 1,4-dioxane afforded 4-chloro-2-(cycloalkylamino)quinazolines. In the case of N-substituted pyrrolidines, 4-chloro-2-(N-substituted 4-chlorobutylamino) quinazolines were also obtained.
The aim of this paper is to describe the therapeutic activity of the Chewa and to elucidate its characteristics and logic. The Chewa attribute slight illness to God, and severe illness to the act of sorcerers. Illness which is caused by the dead or the ancestral spirits is quite rare. This tendency may well be ascribed to the existence of a masked society “Nyau”, whose function is to transfer the dead into the ancestral spirits, and to prevent them from doing harm to the living people.Traditional healers of the Chewa attach great importance to medicine, made mainly from plants and animals. In the case of illness caused by sorcery, healers connect symptoms of the illness and the attributes of a certain plant or animal, a part of which, they suppose, the sorcerer has sent into the body of the patient. Thus, the cure consists of giving the same substance to the patient, chanting a spell “the substance must go back to the sender”. In the case of illness caused by God, healers try to treat them using symbolic attributes of plants and animals: for example, trees which have white drops can wash the illness away, a tree whose name is “msolo” can pull out (u-solela) the illness, and the like. In both cases, healing is explained through the metaphorical association between symptoms and attributes of natural objects. This kind of treatment can visualize the healing process of the illness. In consequence, patient can not only imagine but also believe his recovery. It is no exaggeration to say that the Chewa's therapeutic system, which ascribes most of severe illness to sorcery and cure them through its counterwork, visualizes the process of outbreak and healing of illness to the extreme degree.
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">A fuel supply system and characteristics of CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) were changed to get better dynamic performance of an engine and axle output, respectively. A fuel supply system were changed from carburetor to fuel injection to improve an engine power. Engine power and torque with fuel injection system were higher than that with carburetor system by approximately 19% and 21%, respectively. In the power transmission system, the effect of spring constant of pressure spring and weight of flyweight on engagement speed and shift speed were investigated to improve an acceleration performance. Engagement speed and shift speed were higher as spring constant of pressure spring increases and weight of flyweight decreases, respectively.</div></div>
