Beyond SPICE Simulation: A Novel Variability-Aware STA Methodology for Digital Timing Closure

This article proposes a method for performing device-level variability-aware static timing analysis (STA) on digital circuits using a tool flow methodology based on Python and Bash scripting. The method involves creating an effective current source model (ECSM) .libs file with a custom tool flow, which incorporates variation-aware timing models of standard cells to minimize recharacterization efforts. The resulting file is integrated into an industry-standard STA tool environment to assess the impact of device and layout level variability on digital timing closure. The simulation work is carried out using Mentor Graphics ELDO SPICE, Synopsys DC Compiler, and PrimeTime STA environment in STMicroelectronics (STM) 65 nm CMOS process. This tool flow reduces recharacterization efforts by 98.13% compared to conventional SPICE simulation by incorporating the impact of device-level variability on the conventional STA flow.

ANN BASED PREDICTION OF SURFACE ROUGHNESS IN TURNING

Surface roughness, an indicator of surface quality is one of the most specified customer requirements in a machining process. For efficient use of machine tools, optimum cutting parameters (speed, feed and depth of cut) are required. Therefore it is necessary to find a suitable optimization method which can find optimum values of cutting parameters for minimizing surface roughness. The turning process parameter optimization is highly constrained and nonlinear. In present work, machining process was carried out on Mild steel material in dry cutting condition in a lathe machine and surface roughness was measured using Surface Roughness Tester. To predict the surface roughness, an artificial neural network (ANN) model was designed through back propagation network for the data obtained. Comparison of the experimental data and ANN results show that there is no significant difference and ANN was used confidently. The results obtained, conclude that ANN is reliable and accurate for solving the cutting parameter optimization.

Modal Analysis of Femur Bone to Find out the Modal Frequencies of Different Bone Implant Materials

Bio-mechanics is most difficult to carry out on the bone due to the modeling difficulty and complex forces acting on the bones. In this study, we consider human femur bone for modeling analysis. The modal analysis is also important as that of static analysis. We can predict the place at which the fracture occurs. The modal analysis for three different materials is carried out to find the feasible material for bone implants. These materials are Natural bone, AZ31, and Stainless steel 316L. The daily activity such as walking is used as a boundary condition in our study. The femur head is fixed and 750N load is applied at the Knee joint. The results are obtained for these materials. The modal frequencies for Natural Femur bone vary from 0.328Hz to 2.258Hz for Mode1 to Mode 10. The modal frequencies for AZ31 vary from 1.502Hz to 10.292 Hz for Mode1 to Mode 10. The modal frequencies for 316L vary from 3.120Hz to 21.150 Hz for Mode1 to Mode 10. These frequencies are minimal as compared to the natural frequency of the Femur bone. AZ31 is best suited for the fabrication of bone implants because of its lightweight in comparison with 316L material. Also, this is biodegradable in the human body over the period.

Influence of fruit positions and fruit retention loads on seed quality parameters of okra

An experiment was conducted in 2016 by using Factorial Completely Randomized Design with three replications to find out the influence of fruit positions and fruit retention loads on seed quality parameters of okra. The okra variety, Arka Anamika was tested with 12 treatment combinations (consisted of two fruit retention loads as factor – I and six fruit positions as factor – II) in field experiment at Vegetable research Farm, Kalyanpur, C.S. Azad university of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur. harvested seeds were subjected to laboratory analysis in the department of Seed Science and technology, C.S. Azad university of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur. Observations were recorded on seed quality parameters. Significantly highest values for test weight (g), standard germination (%), seed density (g/cc), root length(cm), shoot length(cm), total seedling length (cm), seedling dry weight (g), speed of germination, seed vigour index-I and seed vigour index-II and lowest value for hard seeds (%) were recorded in R1 (Retention of fruits borne on different nodes for seed purpose and harvesting remaining fruits for vegetable purpose) fruit retention load over R 2 ((Retaining all fruits for seed purpose). Among the fruit positions, P1 (From fruits borne on 1-3 nodes) position recorded significantly maximum values for all the studied parameters except hard seeds (%). Thus, it is concluded from the research work that for harvesting vigorous and good quality seed, the treatment combination R1P1 (Retention of fruits borne on 1-3 nodes for seed purpose and harvesting remaining fruits for vegetable purpose) may be adopted as it exhibited superior performance over other treatment combinations for all the seed quality parameters under study.

Maximization of growth, seed yield and quality by adjusting date of sowing and nutrient level in mustard. (Brassica juncea Czern & Coss)

First date of sowing i.e. 5th November 2014 (D1) was significantly superior for most of the growth, seed yield and quality parameters as it showed percent increase of 35.04 in no. of siliquae/plant, 32.11 in no. of seeds per siliqua, 14.40 in seed yield q/ha, 2.58 in seed recovery, 9.64 in oil content, 5.78 in germination, 8.01 in seed vigour index-I and 10.12 in seed vigour index-II over second date of sowing i.e. 18th November 2014. Treatment with T7 (RNPKS ie. 60:40:40NPK + 40kgS + 25 kg /ha ZnSO4 + 5 kg/ha FeSO4) was found significantly effective for getting highest yield (19.73 q/ha), highest no. of secondary branches (14.75), germination (75.41%), shoot length (9.22cm) and root length (7.11cm) as well as for quality, having highest oil content (33.37%) vigour Index–I (1528.21) and vigour Index-II (11.34). Interaction of D1xT7 also exhibited significantly highest seed yield (21.30q/ha) and no. of secondary branches (17.25). Maximum seed yield and quality can be achieved by sowing of treated seed with carbendazim @ 2g./kg in first week of November with nutrient application of RNPKS i.e. 60:40:40 and 40 kg S + 25 kg ZnSO4 + 5kg FeSO4/ha.

Study of variability, heritability and genetic advance for some quantitative traits in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.)

The present investigation is carried out with 65 treatments (50 F1s + 15 Parents) in RBD to find out genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance percent of mean. Analysis of variance for the design of experiment revealed that mean squares due to treatments were highly significant for all the eleven characters studied, while mean squares due to replications were found non-significant in both timely and late sown condition. The high estimates of PCV and GCV (>20%) were recorded for seed yield per plant, 100 seed weight, secondary branches per plant, and biological yield per plant and moderate estimates (10-20%) were recorded for pods per plant and harvest index in both environments. The high estimates of heritability in broad sense (>75%) were found for 100 seed weight, seed yield per plant, days to 50 per cent flowering, biological yield per plant, plant height, harvest index and secondary branches per plant in both the environments. High genetic advance in per cent of mean (>20%) were recorded for seed yield per plant, 100 seed weight, secondary branches per plant, biological yield per plant, pods per plant and harvest index in both the environments. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance in per cent of mean were found for 100 seed weight, biological yield per plant, seed yield per plant, harvest index, secondary branches per plant and pods per plant in E1 and E2..

Use of airside economizer for data center thermal management

Full-scale model of a representative data center was developed, with the arrangement of bringing outside air under suitable conditions. Four different world cities were considered to evaluate the energy savings over the entire year. Results show a significant saving in chiller energy (up to 70%), and even the possibility of switching off chillers for certain months of the year. The details of relative humidity and temperature variation inside the data center space and humidification/dehumidification requirements were investigated. The rack exit air temperature was found to be lower when economizer was used, as compared to the exit air temperature without the economizer. The lower exit air temperature results from reduced hot air recirculation, as the hot air is exhausted from the hot air outlet and fresh air is brought from the outside into the data center space. The saving in energy is significant and justifies the infrastructure improvements, such as improved filters and control mechanism for the outside air influx. Fan power to bring outside air into the data center space has also been investigated.
