Numerical investigation on the static performance of aerostatic journal bearings with different pocket shapes by the finite-element method

In this work, to improve the static behavior of aerostatic journal bearings, we examine the effect of pockets with different shapes, including the square, rectangular 1, rectangular 2, and circular, manufactured on the surface of the aerostatic journal bearing. The effects of the pocket shapes, pocket area [Formula: see text], eccentricity ratio ɛ, orifice diameter d f , average gas film thickness h 0 , and misalignment angles [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] on the static performance are investigated using simulations. The Reynolds equation is solved by the finite-element method in this work. Simulations reveal that the pocket area [Formula: see text], eccentricity ratio ɛ, gas film thickness h 0 , orifice diameter d f , and misalignment angles [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] have a significant influence on the load force F and the stiffness K. In general, rectangular 2 pocket bearings are found to perform somewhat better than bearings with other pocket shapes, with the pocket depth set to one-half of h 0 , when the pocket area [Formula: see text] varies from one-twelfth to one. The pocket area [Formula: see text] should be set according to the average gas film thickness h 0 and the orifice diameter d f to achieve a better static performance for the bearings. For bearings operated with misalignment angles [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], different pocket areas [Formula: see text] should be set according to the pocket shapes for the optimal design.

[Quantitative analysis of Mn, Cr in steel based on laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy].

Quantitative analysis of trace elements such as manganese and chromium in steel was performed employing laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) technique in the present paper. The experimental measurements indicate that the optimal delay, focal plane and detecting position from the sample surface are 2 micros, -3.5 mm and 1.5 mm,respectively. Mn I: 403.07 nm and Cr I : 427.48 nm were selected as the analytical lines and their contents in the target steel sample were analyzed with traditional quantitative analysis and internal standard methods. Comparison of the results with two kinds of quantitatively analytical methods show that the coefficients of determination gained by internal standard method are 0.998 and 0.979 which are much better than the results obtained by traditional quantitative analysis method. According to the established calibration curve by internal standard method the detection limits of manganese and chromium calculated are 0.005% and 0.040 6%, respectively.

Investigation of flue gas displacement and storage after the water flooding in a full diameter conglomerate long-core

Five full diameter cores were obtained from a conglomerate reservoir of Xinjiang oilfield. They were assembled into a full diameter long-core group, with a total length of 52.3 cm, 10 cm in diameter. With the full diameter long-core flooding system designed and produced in China, experiments were conducted to simulate depletion, water flooding, flue gas flooding, flue gas-water alternative flooding, CO2 flooding, and flue gas storage in the conglomerate reservoir, and the characteristics and effect of the flue gas flooding were evaluated. The study shows that full diameter long-core flooding experiment is more effective in simulating the gas displacement and percolation characteristics in the conglomerate reservoir. According to the experimental results, the flue gas produced from fire flooding can be used to enhance oil recovery of the water-drived conglomerate reservoir. The key to reaching a favorable development effect is to select the right timing, injection pressure and mode of flooding. In the middle of the water flooding stage, when the dominant percolation channel has not been formed, injecting flue gas and water alternatively after increasing reservoir pressure could avoid premature gas channeling and enhance oil recovery. During the flooding, the poisonous gas, H2S, was absorbed efficiently in cores and fluids, and flue gas was stored safely.

Conversion relation in equivalent carbon number between interfacial tensions of chain/cyclic hydrocarbon-CO 2 system

A great number of published data and our experimental results of interfacial tensions between hydrocarbon compounds and CO2 were collected and screened. Based on these experimental data, the changing laws of interfacial tensions between different kinds of hydrocarbon compounds and CO2 were obtained, interfacial tensions between different kinds of saturated chain hydrocarbons and CO2 were compared with each other, and interfacial tensions of three different binary system (monocyclic hydrocarbon compounds-CO2 system, hydrocarbon compounds monocyclic and chain structure-CO2 system and dicyclic hydrocarbon compounds-CO2 system) were compared with those of saturated chain hydrocarbon compounds-CO2 system. It is found that molecular structure is the main factor to affect the sizes of interfacial tensions between hydrocarbon compounds and CO2; when carbon numbers of different kinds of hydrocarbon compounds are equal, their proper order from big to small in interfacial tension is: polycyclic hydrocarbon, hydrocarbon monocyclic and chain structure, monocyclic hydrocarbon, saturated chain hydrocarbon. The comparison results at different pressure conditions were respectively used to establish the conversion relations in equivalent carbon number between interfacial tensions of cyclic hydrocarbon-CO2 systems and those of saturated chain hydrocarbon-CO2 systems.

Investigation on emission spectra of reheating and pre-ablation dual-pulse laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy

Two configurations of orthogonal double-pulse laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (DP-LIBS) and their corresponding signal enhancement mechanisms were investigated in this paper. For pre-ablation DP-LIBS configuration, the first laser was input in parallel to the sample surface while the second laser was perpendicularly input onto the sample surface. For reheating DP-LIBS configuration, the first laser was perpendicularly input onto the sample surface and the second laser was input in parallel to the sample surface. The signal intensities were enhanced using both orthogonal DP-LIBS configurations compared to single laser pulse LIBS. The differences of physical mechanisms involved for both schemes were analyzed using time-resolved spectroscopic technique. Continuous spectrum intensity was reduced using pre-ablation DP-LIBS excitation while it was increased with reheating DP-LIBS excitation. Nine consecutive intensity measurements were performed. Fifteen spectral lines were investigated. The average relative standard deviation of fifteen lines for pre-ablation, reheating DP-LIBS and single pulse LIBS was 5.83%, 1.69% and 4.82%, respectively. It was demonstrated that signal repeatability of reheating configuration was better than that of pre-ablation configuration. A correlation between the enhancements of emission line intensities and their excitation energy levels was established for reheating and pre-ablation double-pulse approach. It was found that reheating configuration showed better improvement in sensitivity at high excitation energy levels compared with pre-ablation configuration.

Influence of pre-orifice on static characteristic of ball bearing

A simulation model was developed to study static characteristic of ball bearing with annular orifices. The influence of pre-orifice diameter was discussed through simulation analysis. Simulation results show that for constant supply upstream pressure, the larger pre-orifice diameter is the larger volumetric flow rate of pre-orifice is; and for constant pre-orifice diameter, relation between volumetric flow rate and supply upstream pressure is nearly proportional when upstream pressure is larger than some critical pressure value. And a pressure and flow rate measurement system was established to carry out the experiments of how pre-orifice diameter affects the pressure and volumetric flow rate to verify the simulations; it was revealed that the experimental results were in agreement with the simulation results. This research will contribute to some relative investigations on the design of ball bearing system.

[Research on algorithm for self-absorption correction based on multi-particles LIBS spectra].

In order to overcome the influence of self-absorption on quantitative analysis, the optimizing process of very fast simulated annealing algorithm was studied. According to basic theory of plasma emission spectrum, a new algorithm for self-absorpton correction based on multi-particles spectra was proposed, and the algorithm flowchart was given. With the self-absorption correction algorithm mentioned above, the spectra of refining slag and blast furnace slag were corrected. The effect of self-ab sorption correction on the quantitative analysis results was analyzed based on calibration free method. Comparison of Boltzmann plots before and after self-absorption correction indicated that the plasma temperatures calculated with spectra after self-absorption correction tended to be uniform, and remained stable around 11,600 K. The Boltzmann plots constructed with plasma spectra of the same particle after self-absorption correction indicated that the intercepts were almost the same except for one group data. With calibration free method and spectra after self-absorption correction, the contents of components in slag were analyzed. For refining slag, quantitative analysis precision of MgO was low. If ignoring the existence of MgO, the relative errors of quantitative analysis results of CaO, Al2 O3 and SiOs were much smaller. For blast furnace slag in which the content of MgO was 8.49%, the relative error of quantitative analysis result of Al2 O3 was 2.38%, which was the smallest. And the relative error of quantitative analysis result of MgO was 28.27%, which was still the biggest.
