This paper show the effects on the body slip according to the lengths of seat section and the initial angle of upper leg section. We first develop a sample mattress support platform whose lengths of seat and leg sections are changeable. Then experiments are performed with six subjects. To verify the effects to body slip, each initial condition of the experiments are selected based on the anthropometric data of human body. Then the experimental results are verified by a statistics method. From the experimental results we propose ideal lengths of the mattress support platform and a guideline to care the elderly persons at home.
The purpose of this study is to explore the research and development(R&D) programs for effectively response of population aging. We analyzed of aging-related R&D support status by National Science and Technology Information Services(NTIS) and reviewed of foreign aging-related R&D programs. It was found that the overall lack of support systems, the R&D support status for Korea's aging society is very low performance and the difference appears in the annual support status, etc. It is very important to enhance the effectiveness of R&D programs in order to effectively prepare for aging society. I suggested support measures of the R&D for aging society by survey research. The result of this study will help in planning of the R&D for aging society and contribute to increasing of welfare for the aged.
[Purpose] The activations of the shoulder muscle and forearm muscle were analyzed at different chair heights with reference to the user’s elbow joint flexion angle to provide fundamental kinematic data for the fabrication of wheelchairs suitable for the elderly and the disabled with spinal damage. [Subjects] Participants who met the criteria for this study (n=12). [Methods] Muscular activity was measured during propulsion of a wheelchair with chair heights corresponding to elbow flexion angles of 0, 30, 60 and 90 degrees. To eliminate the effect of muscular fatigue, that might have been caused during wheelchair propulsion. [Results] The biceps brachii, anterior deltoid, pectoralis major, serratus anterior and latissimus dorsi muscle activation showed significant differences. [Conclusion] On the basis of the results of this study, we consider that excessive load on the shoulder muscles should be reduced by producing wheelchairs with adjustable chair heights and by using a wheelchair with consideration for an individual’s body size. Future studies should be conducted on the somatic muscle activation at different on chair heights and on the appropriate chair height for various external environments such as a slopeway.
The government has been operating the long-term care insurance since 2008. In June 2010, the government manual wheelchairs, electric beds, manual beds, mattresses prevent pressure ulcers, mobile tub, bath lifts, including six items were changed to rental-only item. For the successful settlement of welfare equipment rental system, The efforts to prevent inconvenience of welfare equipment user's and improvement of the system for the activation is needed. The main object of this study is to identify the factors affecting satisfaction of welfare equipment rental and seek to proposals of revitalizing equipment rental system.
In this study we carry out usability evaluation for adjustable electric beds for home care that are used the most by the elderly, and examines dissatisfaction of users. In this sense, we performed an interview with stakeholders including bed users, developers and suppliers to develop usability evaluation contents. In addition, we carried out feasibility and reliability study over evaluation form through usability assessment, and developed usability evaluation indicator.
