This paper is focused on reviewing previously carried out work and written in literature. Non- conventional abrasive water jet technology is being utilized to machine variety of metals, their respective alloys and nonmetals. Mainly concentrated on Titanium alloys and difficulty in its machining. Numerous variables associated with the technology and their consequence on response variable were analyzed and summarized in this review. Paper conclude numerous gaps in research along with future scope.
Due to poor thermal conductivity, machining of titanium and its alloys is observed as tough work using traditional machining techniques. The performance of the abrasive water jet machine (AWJM) is not influenced by the material's properties. In this study, machining of Ti-6Al-4V is carried out using AWJM in different setup combinations. The study is focused on analysis of experimental results using the Grey relational analysis technique. The combined effect of pressure, abrasive flow rate (AFR), stand-off distance (SOD), and quality are studied on the machining time (MT), surface roughness (SR), and hardness (HRC). The multiobjective optimum setup is 25 kpsi pressure, 300 g/min AFR, 10-mm SOD, and 5 qualities. Pressure was found to the most impactful parameter, whereas SOD has the least impact on responses.
