Automatic Measurement of Inclination Angle of Utility Poles Using 2D Image and 3D Point Cloud

The utility pole inclination angle is an important parameter for determining pole health conditions. Without depth information, the angle cannot be estimated from a 2D image, and without large labeled reference pole data, it is time consuming to locate the pole in the 3D point cloud. Therefore, this paper proposes a method that processes the pole data from the 2D image and 3D point cloud to automatically measure the pole inclination angle. Firstly, the mask of the pole skeleton is obtained from an improved Mask R-CNN. Secondly, the pole point cloud is extracted from a PointNet that deals with the generated frustum from the pole skeleton mask and depth map fusion. Finally, the angle is calculated by fitting the central axis of the pole cloud data. ApolloSpace open dataset and laboratory data are used for evaluation. The experimental results show that the AP75 of improved Mask R-CNN is 58.15%, the accuracy of PointNet is 92.4%, the average error of pole inclination is 0.66°, and the variance is 0.12°. It is proved that the method can effectively realize the automatic measurement of pole inclination.

Absolute flatness measurement of optical surfaces

Two methods were used to testing three high accuracy optical surfaces using a Fizeau interferometer.The properties of Zernike polynomials were utilized to fit data points from four interferograms.Then the Zernike coefficients of three flats were derived and the absolute distributions of three flats were obtained.The second method was even-odd method.Using the symmetry properties of odd and even functions,a flat was decomposed to four components: even-odd、odd-even、even-even and odd-odd functions,the absolute distribution of three flats were obtained by solving each component.The two methods were programmed for simulation and experiment,and experiments were done to achieve accurate flatness measurement without a reference flat.

Optimized Water Supply in a Solar Evaporator for Simultaneous Freshwater Production and Salt Recycle

Solar desalination has shown great potential in alleviating global water scarcity. However, the trade-off between energy efficiency and salt rejection remains a challenge, restricting its practical applications. In this study, we report a three-dimensional nitrocellulose membrane-based evaporator featuring a high evaporation rate (1.5 kg m-2 h-1) and efficient salt precipitation at the edges. Additionally, the salt is isolated from the photothermal area of the evaporator and falls automatically with a salt recovery rate of 97 g m-2 h-1 in brine with 10 wt % salt content. The distinctive performance is attributed to the precise water supply control, which was adjusted by changing the resistance force and driven force in the evaporator. With a high evaporation rate, stable performance, and specific salt recovery ability, this solar evaporation structure holds great potential in water desalination and resource recovery.

Modified Gray-Level Coding Method for Absolute Phase Retrieval

Fringe projection systems have been widely applied in three-dimensional (3D) shape measurements. One of the important issues is how to retrieve the absolute phase. This paper presents a modified gray-level coding method for absolute phase retrieval. Specifically, two groups of fringe patterns are projected onto the measured objects, including three phase-shift patterns for the wrapped phase, and three n-ary gray-level (nGL) patterns for the fringe order. Compared with the binary gray-level (bGL) method which just uses two intensity values, the nGL method can generate many more unique codewords with multiple intensity values. With assistance from the average intensity and modulation of phase-shift patterns, the intensities of nGL patterns are normalized to deal with ambient light and surface contrast. To reduce the codeword detection errors caused by camera/projector defocus, nGL patterns are designed as n-ary gray-code (nGC) patterns to ensure that at most, one code changes at each point. Experiments verify the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed method to measure isolated objects with complex surfaces.

A Chinese Stock Reviews Sentiment Analysis Based on BERT Model

Abstract A huge amount of stock reviews occurred on the Internet due to its rapid development, therefore, the stock reviews sentiment analysis has profound significance for the study of the financial market. Due to the lack of a large amount of labeled data, the accuracy of existing sentiment analysis of Chinese stock reviews remains to be further improved. In this paper, a sentiment analysis algorithm for Chinese stock reviews based on BERT is proposed and it improves the accuracy of sentiment classification. The algorithm uses BERT pre-training language model to perform representation of stock reviews on the sentence level, and then input the obtained feature vector into the classifier layer for classification. In the experiments, we show our method has nearly 8% and 9% improvement than TextCNN and TextRNN in F1, respectively. Our model can obtain the best results via fine-tuning which is proved to be effective in Chinese stock review sentiment analysis.
