Quantum Tunneling of Magnetization in a Metal-Organic Framework

Resonant quantum tunneling of magnetization has been observed in a hybrid metal-organic framework where an intrinsic magnetic phase separation leads to the coexistence of long-range canted antiferromagnetic order and isolated single-ion quantum magnets. This unusual magnetic phenomenon is well interpreted based on a selective long-distance superexchange model in which the exchange interaction between transition metal ions through an organic linker depends on the position of hydrogen bonds. Our work not only extends the resonant quantum tunneling of magnetization to a new class of materials but also evokes the important role of hydrogen bonding in organic magnetism.

A Synaptic Transistor based on Quasi‐2D Molybdenum Oxide

Biological synapses store and process information simultaneously by tuning the connection between two neighboring neurons. Such functionality inspires the task of hardware implementation of neuromorphic computing systems. Ionic/electronic hybrid three-terminal memristive devices, in which the channel conductance can be modulated according to the history of applied voltage and current, provide a more promising way of emulating synapses by a substantial reduction in complexity and energy consumption. 2D van der Waals materials with single or few layers of crystal unit cells have been a widespread innovation in three-terminal electronic devices. However, less attention has been paid to 2D transition-metal oxides, which have good stability and technique compatibility. Here, nanoscale three-terminal memristive transistors based on quasi-2D α-phase molybdenum oxide (α-MoO3 ) to emulate biological synapses are presented. The essential synaptic behaviors, such as excitatory postsynaptic current, depression and potentiation of synaptic weight, and paired-pulse facilitation, as well as the transition of short-term plasticity to long-term potentiation, are demonstrated in the three-terminal devices. These results provide an insight into the potential application of 2D transition-metal oxides for synaptic devices with high scaling ability, low energy consumption, and high processing efficiency.

Memory Effects in an Interacting Magnetic Nanoparticle System

We have performed a series of measurements to study the low temperature dynamics of an interacting magnetic nanoparticle system. The results obtained demonstrate striking memory effects in the dc magnetization and magnetic relaxation that support the existence of a spin-glass-like phase in interacting magnetic nanoparticles. Moreover, we observe an asymmetric response with respect to temperature change that supports a hierarchical picture, rather than the droplet model discussed in other works on nanoparticle systems.

Determination of Octreotide by Resonance Rayleigh Scattering Method with Methyl Red

An ultrasensitive resonance rayleigh scattering(RRS) method for the determination of trace octreotide was developed. The determination of octreotide in an octreotidemethyl red system via RRS was studied comprehensively. In a pH=3.78 B-R buffer solution, the RRS intensity is enhanced obviously in the range of 280~370 nm as octreotide associates with methyl red. The strongest ΔIRRS is at 310 nm. The RRS intensitiy of octreotide is proportional to the concentration of octreotide over the range of 0~0.54 mg/L, the detection limit for the octreotide(3σ) is 3.6 μg/L under optimum conditions. The method was applied to the determination of octreotide in synthetic samples with the recovery of 98.3%~100.7%. Measurements of the commercial injection samples also gave satisfactory results which were in good agreement with those obtained using high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) method.

Critical behavior in the layered organic-inorganic hybrid (CH₃NH₃)₂CuCl₄*

The critical properties and the nature of the ferromagnetic–paramagnetic phase transition in the 2D organic-inorganic hybrid (CH 3 NH 3 ) 2 CuCl 4 single crystal have been investigated by dc magnetization in the vicinity of the magnetic transition. Different techniques were used to estimate the critical exponents near the ferromagnetic–paramagnetic phase transition such as modified Arrott plots, the Kouvel–Fisher method, and the scaling hypothesis. Values of β = 0.22, γ = 0.82, and δ = 4.4 were obtained. These critical exponents are in line with their corresponding values confirmed through the scaling hypothesis as well as the Widom scaling relation, supporting their reliability. It is concluded that this 2D hybrid compound possesses strong ferromagnetic intra-layer exchange interaction as well as weak interlayer ferromagnetic coupling that causes a crossover from 2D to 3D long-range interaction.

背景链接:张宝贵,1950年生于北京,1968年去山西插队,1987年回到北京专门从事造石艺术的研发工作。1988年再造石装饰品申报国家发明专利,1992年被国家专利局授权并获专利金奖。1993年以来,九次参加中国艺术博览会。1995年、1996年先后在中央美院和中国美术馆举办个展,有的作品被中国美术馆和世界银行收藏。1996年以来,四次参加中国雕塑论坛会,论文新材料技术对环境艺术的影响等得到好评。1999年造石艺术的研究项目获世界华人重大科学技术成果奖,2002年5月在爱尔兰举办的国际GRC年会上,再造石装饰品的论文引起了与会专家强烈关注。2002年作品条码的启示被北京国际城市雕塑艺术大展选中,并永久摆放在北京国际雕塑公园南门。艺术与技术艺术与商业艺术与哲学等方面的特殊经历与体会,作为张宝贵现象被中央教育电视台采访报道。

Proton-free electron-trapping feature of titanium dioxide nanoparticles without the characteristic blue color

Abstract Most solar-energy conversion applications are based on trapping and transferring photoinduced electrons on oxide semiconductor nanoparticles, such as titanium dioxide, and broad UV-vis absorption (400~800 nm) and monotonic IR absorption (1100~3000 cm −1 ) signals have long been considered signatures of the electron-trapping state on titanium dioxide nanoparticles. Here we show that, under proton-free conditions and using iodide ions in acetonitrile as the hole scavenger, the intrinsic electron-trapping feature of titanium dioxide nanoparticles does not exhibit the characteristic UV-vis absorption and infrared absorption signatures. Further electron spin resonance studies identify the proton-free electron-trapping state as the lattice octahedral Ti 6c 3+ species, differing from the traditional proton-participating surface tetrahedral Ti 4c 3+ species. Synchronized radiation ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy results also show that the internal electron-trapping state without protons has a larger Ti 3d binding energy (1.8 eV) than the blue electron-trapping state (1.3 eV) that forms when protons participate and thus shows different electron transfer abilities.

Observation of Resonant Quantum Magnetoelectric Effect in a Multiferroic Metal–Organic Framework

A resonant quantum magnetoelectric coupling effect has been demonstrated in the multiferroic metal-organic framework of [(CH3)2NH2]Fe(HCOO)3. This material shows a coexistence of a spin-canted antiferromagnetic order and ferroelectricity as well as clear magnetoelectric coupling below TN ≈ 19 K. In addition, a component of single-ion quantum magnets develops below ∼ 8 K because of an intrinsic magnetic phase separation. The stair-shaped magnetic hysteresis loop at 2 K signals resonant quantum tunneling of magnetization. Meanwhile, the magnetic field dependence of dielectric permittivity exhibits sharp peaks just at the critical tunneling fields, evidencing the occurrence of resonant quantum magnetoelectric coupling effect. This resonant effect enables a simple electrical detection of quantum tunneling of magnetization.
