Coordinated Multicast Trees (CMT)for TRILL

TRILL facilitates loop free connectivity to non TRILL legacy networks via choice of an Appointed Forwarder for set of VLANs. Appointed Forwarder provides VLAN level load sharing with active- standby model. Mission critical operations such as High Performance Data Centers require active-active load sharing model. Active-Active load sharing model can be accomplished by representing any given non TRILL legacy network with a single virtual RBridge. Virtual representation of the non-TRILL legacy network with a single RBridge poses serious challenges in multi-destination RPF calculations. This document presents the required enhancements to build Coordinated Multicast Trees (CMT) within the TRILL campus to solve related RPF issues. CMT provides flexibility to RBridges to select desired path of association to a given distribution tree.

An Architecture for Overlay Networks (NVO3)

This document presents a high-level overview architecture for building overlay networks in NVO3. The architecture is given at a high-level, showing the major components of an overall system. An important goal is to divide the space into individual smaller components that can be implemented independently and with clear interfaces and interactions with other components. It should be possible to build and implement individual components in isolation and have them work with other components with no changes to other components. That way implementers have flexibility in implementing individual components and can optimize and innovate within their respective components without requiring changes to other components.

Rectilinear area routing: a channel router approach

A final router has been developed which operates upon the rectilinear channel routing areas created by rectilinear macrocells. The router supports input and output pins on all sides of the rectilinear area. After the channel density estimation for the entire assembly is provided by a global router, the rectilinear area is partitioned into smaller rectangular regions which can be routed by applying traditional channel router methods. The regions are ordered, and a global routing of the nets within the rectilinear area is performed. The regions are routed individually while providing a smooth area routing. Algorithms for each phase of the final routing are described. Special rectilinear topological considerations are presented. The algorithms are implemented in Pascal on a DEC-SYSTEM 20 as a part of SLS - Sandia layout system, a hierarchical layout system.
