Cr³⁺↔Fe³⁺ Energy Transfer Offset Enabling Anti‐Thermal Quenching Near‐Infrared Emission for Coded Wireless‐Communication Applications

Abstract Broadband near‐infrared (NIR) emission phosphors are crucial for the construction of next‐generation smart lighting sources; however, the thermal quenching (TQ) issue poses a significant challenge to their applications. In this study, anti‐TQ NIR emission is demonstrated in hexafluoride phosphors, using a facile Cr 3+ /Fe 3+ co‐doping strategy. Owing to the controlled forward resonance energy transfer (ET) from Cr 3+ to Fe 3+ and one‐phonon‐assisted back ET from Fe 3+ to Cr 3+ , the thermally enhanced broadband NIR luminescence is realised in series of fluoride such as Na 3 FeF 6 :Cr 3+ , Na 3 GaF 6 :Cr 3+ , Fe 3+ , K 2 NaScF 6 :Cr 3+ , Fe 3+ , etc. By varying the chemical composition of the phosphor, the anti‐TQ emission is achieved even upon raising the temperature to ≈423 K. The anti‐TQ luminescence mechanism is investigated, and the ET offset effect on luminescence TQ is demonstrated. More importantly, by combining these phosphors with blue InGaN chip, anti‐/zero‐TQ NIR light emitting diodes with a high photoelectric conversion efficiency even up to 19.13%@20 mA are further fabricated to realize the emerging coded optical wireless‐communication applications. These findings can initiate the exploration of NIR phosphors with anti‐TQ luminescence properties for advanced optoelectronic applications.

Hierarchical Accordion-like Lanthanide-Based Metal–Organic Frameworks: Solvent-Free Syntheses and Ratiometric Luminescence Temperature-Sensing Properties

Rational design of lanthanide (Ln)-based metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) enables great potential in luminescence applications; however, it keeps a challenge in the development of controlled synthesis strategy toward luminescent Ln-MOFs with intriguing morphology. Herein, we report a facile solvent-free solid-state grinding procedure followed by a subsequent thermal heating to prepare novel accordion-like lanthanide-based MOFs (Ln-MOFs, Ln = Er, Dy, Eu, Y, and Tm). These self-assembled Ln-MOFs with a MIL-78 topological structure exhibit characteristic lanthanide photoluminescence properties. Among them, Eu3+, Dy3+ codoped Y-MOF was successfully fabricated exhibiting temperature-dependent Dy3+/Eu3+ dual blue/red characteristic emissions, which can be used as ratiometric thermometer, serving for temperature-sensing applications. The high-temperature relative sensitivity for Eu, Dy-doped Y-MOF (0.640% K–1 at 170 K), as well as their excellent temperature resolution in the wide measured temperature range (80–200 K), render them great potential applications. The present solvent-free synthesis strategy used in this work opens a general way to scale up the synthesis of lanthanide-MOF materials and explore their luminescence applications.

Luminescence Properties and Energy Transfer in La_5-x-ySi₂BO₁₃:xCe³⁺,yTb³⁺Phosphor

La5-x-ySi2BO13:xCe3+, yTb3+ phosphors were synthesized by a solid-state reaction, and their luminescence properties have been investigated. The luminescent emission (PL) and excitation (PLE) spectra reveal that a broad absorption band between 200–400 nm is ascribed to the sensitizer of Ce3+, and the multiple emission bands are corresponding to the characteristic transitions of Ce3+ and Tb3+, respectively. On the basis of the analysis of the luminescence spectra, the energy transfer from Ce3+ to Tb3+ ions takes place in the La5-x-ySi2BO13:xCe3+, yTb3+ phosphor, which demonstrated to be a dipole-dipole mechanism. The energy transfer efficiency increases with increasing Ce3+ doping content. The critical distance Rc of Ce3+ to Tb3+ ions in La5Si2BO13 host was calculated to be 0.973 nm.

Homo- and Heterovalent Doping-Mediated Self-Trapped Exciton Emission and Energy Transfer in Mn-Doped Cs₂Na_1–xAg_xBiCl₆ Double Perovskites

Double perovskites exhibit low toxicity, intrinsic thermodynamic stability, and small carrier effective mass. Herein, a novel doping route was adopted to incorporate Mn ions into Cs2Na1-xAgxBiCl6 double perovskites for engineering the band gap and tailoring the energy transfer. The as-prepared Cs2Na1-xAgxBiCl6 (0 < x < 1) exhibited excellent photoluminescence and a broad self-trapped exciton (STE) band from 500 to 900 nm, which exhibited an abnormal emission peak blue shift with increasing temperature. For Mn-doped Cs2Na1-xAgxBiCl6, the two photoluminescence (PL) bands from d-d transition emission of Mn ions and STEs were always observed simultaneously in the PL window. The distinct energy-transfer channel from the Mn2+ ion guest to the double-perovskite host resulted in the dominant Mn2+ emission. Our results will be helpful for further understanding the nature of the photophysics of double perovskites.

Unveiling The Role of Cu⁺ Doping in Rb₂AgBr₃ Scintillators toward Enhanced Photoluminescence Quantum Efficiency and Light Yield

Abstract Doping in luminescent metal halides has become an effective strategy for tailoring the optoelectronic properties. Herein, Cu + is introduced into Rb 2 AgBr 3 to design the synthesis of Rb 2 AgBr 3 : x Cu + , which possess cold‐white light emission at room‐temperature without changing the spectral profiles; however, the Cu + incorporation significantly enhances the photoluminescence quantum efficiency to 98.8% in Rb 2 AgBr 3 :0.05Cu + . Additionally, a high scintillation light yield of up to 79 250 photons MeV −1 and a low detection limit of 714.83 nGy s −1 have been achieved via this Cu + doping engineering. X‐ray imaging with a spatial resolution of up to 5.8 lp mm −1 is further realized using a large scintillator film prepared by mixing polydimethylsiloxane with Cu + doped Rb 2 AgBr 3 scintillators. This study provides a Cu + doping design principle for improving both the photoluminescence and scintillation performances of metal halides.
