Laminar Burning Velocity Model Based on Deep Neural Network for Hydrogen and Propane with Air

The aim of the study was to develop deep neural network models for laminar burning velocity (LBV) calculations. The present study resulted in models for hydrogen–air and propane–air mixtures. An original data-preparation/data-generation algorithm was also developed in order to obtain the datasets sufficient in quality and quantity for models training. The discussion about the current analytical models highlighted issues with both experimental data and methodology of creating those analytical models. It was concluded that there is a need for models that can capture data from multiple experimental techniques with ease and automate the model design and training process. We presented a full machine learning based approach that fulfills these requirements. Not only model development, but also data preparation was described in detail as it is crucial in obtaining good results. Resulting models calculations were compared with popular analytical models and experimental data gathered from literature. The calculations comparison showed that the models developed were characterized by the smallest error with regards to the experiments and behaved equally well for variable pressure, temperature, and equivalence ratio. The source code of ready-to-use models has been provided and can be easily integrated in, for example, CFD software.

Temperature effect on explosion parameters of hydrogen-air deflagrations in presence of water vapor

Results of investigation of hydrogen-air deflagrations phenomenon in closed vessel in various initial temperatures and volume fraction of water vapor are presented in following paper. Tests were performed in apparatus which construction complies with EN 15967 recommendations—20-litre sphere. Studied parameters were explosion pressure (Pex) and maximum explosion pressure (Pmax). Defining the influence of the initial conditions (temperature and amount of water vapor) on the maximum pressure of the hydrogen-air deflagration in a constant volume was the main aim. Initial temperatures were equal to 373K, 398K and 413K. Initial pressure was ambient (0.1 MPa). Hydrogen volume fraction differed from 15% to 80%, while humidity volume fraction from 0% to 20%. Ignition source was placed in geometrical center of testing chamber and provided energy between 10-20J from burnout of fuse wire with accordance to abovementioned standard. Common features of all experimentally obtained results were discussed. Maximum explosion pressure (Pmax) decreases with increasing the initial temperature. Furthermore, addition of the water vapor for constant initial temperature decreases value of Pmax and shifts the maximum peak to the direction of lean mixtures. Data provided in paper can be useful in assessment of explosion risk of industry installations working with hydrogen-air atmospheres with high water vapor addition.

Influence of Plastic Deformation on the Time Decrease of Permeability in Transformer Steel

The paper gives the results of measurements of the influence of plastic deformations in the time-decrease of permeability in hot rolled transformer steel. In the first part measurements were performed on samples rolled in a mill. The measurements showed a drop of time decrease of permeability at large elongations and a maximum at small elongations. In the second part measurements were performed on samples stretched in a tensile testing machine. The results of measurements are characterized by typical wavy shape of time decrease of permeability. The obtained results are connected with the variations of lengths of the paths of impurities diffusing in the crystal lattice.

The time decrease of permeability in transformer steel

The paper describes some measurements of time-decrease of permeability on three types of samples stamped out from 4%-silicon hot-rolled transformer steel. The first samples contained severe mechanical stresses. Secondly, samples annealed at 800°C were used, and the maximum time of permeability decrease of about 24 hours was reduced after annealing to about 8 hours.Finally samples annealed at 1250°C in hydrogen atmosphere were measured and the results showed that the time-decrease phenomenon as practically eliminated according to the theory of Snoek.
