Successful completion of a SOREFI type program promises to promote optimal adjustment to limitations among disabled or chronically ill. It allows them to enjoy a “better adjusted life pattern”, rather than waiting out their days vacillating between hospitals and/or clinics as depressed, frustrated, and embittered physical and psychological cripples.

Documentation of Hand Function With The Use of Office Copying Equipment

The initial findings are presented of a study of 109 patients with hand dysfunction whose hand function was documented with the use of standard office copying equipment. The photocopies obtained by this method provide an inexpensive permanent record of the patient's hand function which can be used to evaluate his treatment and progress and can further be used by those who must establish percentage of disability, compensation, or both.

Documentation of Hand Function: A Comparative Analysis of Direct Electrostatic Systems with Standard Clinical Procedures.

Abstract : Office copying equipment is available which produces adequate copy for documenting hand disability and deformity for such medical uses as patient chart progress reports, ward rounds, physical evaluation board review, re-evaluation procedures, patient conferences and clinical research. Those who evaluated both the photocopy documentation and the standard methods found the photocopies to be more objective and more easily comprehended. This was particularly true for range of motion, sensory involvement, topography and functional use. The photocopy is not adequate for documenting muscle strengths; these must be noted on the photocopy. It is also important to note grip strength, Moberg manipulation test times and active and passive motion. If all of this information is included, the photocopies can be used in lieu of any written progress report or numerical description. (Modified author abstract)
