Abstract Purpose The present study aimed to investigate the effects of eight weeks spirulina supplementation and circuit resistance training (CRT) on Asprosin, appetite and energy balance of overweight and obese men. Methods The present study is a single-blind randomized controlled trial. Sixty overweight and obese men (BMI > 25) were purposefully selected and randomly divided into equal four groups of training plus spirulina, training plus placebo, spirulina, and placebo. The participants of the training groups performed 12 movements with 40–90 percent maximal repetition (3 sessions per week) and supplemental groups consumed 1000 mg of spirulina per day for eight weeks. Asprosin, appetite with visual analogue scales, calorie intake, energy expenditure and mass of body fat (MBF) were measured before and after intervention. To analyze data, one-way variance, paired- t-tests and Pearson correlation test was used by SPSS (version 20) at a significance level of p ≤ 0.05. Results After intervention Asprosin level, weight, MBF, calorie intake, and hunger declined and fullness and satiety increased in training plus spirulina, training plus placebo, and spirulina groups (p < 0.05). In addition, energy expenditure increased only in the training groups (P = 0.01). The mean changes of the research indicators in the training plus spirulina group were significantly more than the other groups (p < 0.05). Conclusion It seems that eight weeks of CRT and spirulina supplementation decrease the level of Asprosin and improve appetite and energy balance in overweight and obese people.
Objective: To characterize the effect of 12 weeks of high and moderate-intensity interval training on pulmonary and functional parameters in miners with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease working in the polluted environment. Methods: Forty-five miners with COPD (average degree: 60 > FEV 1 < 70), were randomly divided into HIIT (with 100%–125% ISWT); MIIT (with 60%–85% ISWT), and control. The study period was 12 weeks (3 sessions per week). At the beginning and end of the study, pulmonary and functional indices was evaluated. Results: Based on results, HIIT and MIIT significantly increased FVC, FEV 1 , and mean traveled distance in ISWT compared with control. Comparison of training intensities showed that HIIT led to a significant change in FVC, FEV 1 , and ISWT record compared to MIIT. Conclusion: It is suggested that miners suffering from COPD, consider HIIT as part of their treatment plan.
Background and Aims: Researchers have recently considered the impact of herbal supplements combined with exercise on weight control. This study aimed to investigate the effect of Spirulina platensis green-blue algae consumption, and circuit resistance training (CRT) on lipid profile in overweight and obese middle-aged men. Materials and Methods: This was a single-blind, quasi-experimental, and applied study. The study population included 60 overweight and obese men in the age range of 30-55 years with a body mass index of more than 25 (kg/m2). The participants were purposefully selected and randomly divided into four groups of training plus spirulina (N=15); training plus placebo; spirulina; and Placebo. The intervention and placebo groups took two 500 mg spirulina capsules, and placebo capsules daily for eight weeks, respectively. The CRT was performed for eight weeks and three sessions per week based on a flexible timing pattern, with the observation of the principle of overload with rest intervals between stations and sets. Results: There was a significant difference between the study groups in terms of the levels of triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL) of the participants (P<0.05). Moreover, in the intra-group investigation, there was a significant reduction in the values of low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and triglyceride (TG), in the groups of training plus spirulina and training plus placebo, cholesterol (TC), and (Aspartate aminotransferase) AST in the groups of training plus spirulina had a significant decrease, Moreover, a significant increase was observed in the levels of HDL and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) in the group of training plus spirulina. Conclusion: It seems that the consumption of Spirulina platensis green-blue algae combined with CRT can be effective in controlling weight and obesity and preventing obesity-related diseases through the improvement of some indices of metabolic profile and body composition.
