Microorganisms may have a direct action on the fate of organic/inorganic ions in the environment through biosorption, detoxification, or bioaccumulation processes. This present review wants to contribute to a better understanding of the marine microbe–radionuclides interaction and their remediation process. Radionuclides are generally extremely dangerous to environment and health. Therefore, the bioremediation of radionuclides is important and it's an emerging in situ technology for the cleanup of environmental pollutants using microorganisms. In biological wastewater treatment systems, the majority of the microorganisms are present in the form of complex high-molecular-weight mixture of polymers, EPS, microbial aggregates such as sludge flocs, biofilms, and granules. Further, it has binding sites for the adsorption of metals and organic matters. Thus, the present chapter covers the remediation of radionuclides using microbes and their extracellular polymeric substance involvement in bioremediation process.

Nowadays people are becoming poisoned through the consumption of herbal remedies that comprise heavy metals (HMs) worldwide. It is possible for HMs to be present in pharmaceutical herb materials coming from anthropogenic activities like agriculture, industrial waste, and natural sources. In various ethnic groups, there is evidence that contaminants were purposefully added in the belief that they had some sort of therapeutic benefit. HM toxicity of medicinal plant products has been linked to a wide range of adverse health effects, causing dysfunction of the liver, kidney, and heart, and even death. Natural plant-based products established around the world have progressed to the point that they now combine a variety of synthetic products for their purported medical benefits. This assessment focuses on the impacts of HMs on plants, sources of HMs, herbal sample collection, and identification techniques, especially in medicinal plant samples. At the same time, it focuses on the sociocultural applications of HMs as well as the dangers associated with their usage in conventional therapies. It is necessary to implement appropriate regulation and monitoring systems for natural supplements due to the prevalence of hazardous HMs.

In vitro Cytotoxicity, Apoptotic and Hemolysis Assay of Kalsilite‐Based Glass Ceramics for Dental Veneering Application

Nanocrystalline kalsilite material was synthesized via a gel‐trapped coprecipitation for dental veneering applications. The prepared kalsilite powder was further mixed with a separately processed low temperature frit ( LTF ), in different weight ratio to optimize its coefficient of thermal expansion ( CTE ). These mixes were analyzed for their flexural strength and surface morphology. The cytocompatibility of mixes was investigated with reference to their effect on human buccal epithelial cells ( SCC ‐25). The flexural strength and CTE values of prepared kalsilite have been found to be comparable to the values obtained for a commercial opaque VMK 95 1M2 (product no. B333250; VITA Zahnfabrik H. Rauter GmbH KG Postfach 1338 D‐79704 Bad Sackingen, Germany). This confirmed the feasibility of prepared kalsilite material for dental veneering application. Kalsilite glass‐ceramic materials caused moderate levels of apoptosis in SCC ‐25 cells at higher concentrations and were also tolerable by human RBC as evaluated from hemolytic assay. Human buccal epithelial cells were tolerant to kalsilite glass‐ceramic materials at lower concentrations although higher concentration (500 μg/mL) caused moderate damages in proliferative capacity of SCC ‐25. The improved mechanical and biological properties of the prepared kalsilite confirmed its potential use in dental veneering.
