A Cascaded Feature Pyramid Network With Non-Backward Propagation for Facial Expression Recognition

In this work we propose a novel cascaded feature pyramid network with non-backward propagation (CFPN-NBP) for facial expression recognition (FER) that addresses the problems inherent in traditional backward propagation (BP) algorithms in the training process by using the Hilbert-Schmidt independence criterion (HSIC) bottleneck. The proposed algorithm is developed at two different levels. At the first level, a novel training method HSIC bottleneck is considered as an alternative to traditional BP optimization, where the correlation between the output of the hidden layers and the input, and the correlation between the output of the hidden layers and its label are calculated to reduce redundant information; hence, the least information is used to predict the results. At the second level, a novel architecture is designed in the feature extraction process. The convolutional layers with the same resolutions are densely connected and introduced into the attention mechanism, so that the model can focus on more important information. The convolutional layers with different resolutions are combined by three cascaded pyramid networks; in this way, the shallow features and the deep features can be further fused, and; therefore, the semantic information and the content information can both be reserved. To further reduce the number of parameters, the operation of separable convolution instead of traditional convolution is utilized. Experiments on the challenging FER2013 dataset show that the proposed CFPN-NBP algorithm improves the accuracy of the FER task and outperforms the related state-of-the-art methods.

Energy harvesting and thermal management in spacecraft refer to the adjustment, distribution, and comprehensive use of uniform adjustment, allocation, and integrated use of the spacecraft and subsystems, which have the advantages of reducing energy consumption and improving the overall performance of the spacecraft. The study is first briefly elaborated on the research progress of energy harvesting and thermal management, and then introduces the key thermal control technology of thermal management, mainly thermal bus systems, heat pump technology, and passive thermal control technology. Finally, the future development direction and research focus of thermal management are proposed, which lays a foundation for the future development of energy harvesting and thermal management technology.

A survey of the research status for search and rescue robots in Japan,USA,China,and other countries is provided. According to current research,the experience,and the lessons learned from application,there are four key performances for search and rescue robot,which are,survivability,mobility, sensing,communicability,and operability.It is proved that, research of search and rescue robot is converted to practice from experiment gradually,Multi-technique fusion and multi-agent intelligent network are considered to be the future development requirement of the search and rescue robot.Dis- aster prevention,disaster reduction,and disaster rescue are important parts of the national public safety.And they are also crucial issues in the safety of citizens and their estates. Search and rescue robotic technique is an urgently needed, strategic,and core technique for national development.It will have important and strategic effect on the national economy and the national safety.

CMOS APS imaging system application in star tracker

Small satellites are capable of performing space explore missions that require accurate attitude determination and control. However, low weight, size, power and cost requirements limit the types of attitude sensor of small craft, such as CCD, are not practical for small satellites. CMOS APS is a good substitute for attitude sensors of small craft. Some of the technical advantages of CMOS APS are no blooming, single power, low power consumption, small size and little support circuitry, direct digital output, simple to system design, in particular, radiation-hard characteristic compare with CCD. This paper discusses the application probability of CMOS APS in star tracker for small satellites, further more, a prototype ground-based star camera based on STAR250 CMOS image sensor has been built. In order to extract stars positions coordinates, subpixel accuracy centroiding algorithm has been developed and tested on some ground-based images. Moreover, the camera system star sensitivity and noise model are analyzed, and the system accuracy is been evaluated. Experimental results indicate that a star camera based on CMOS APS is a viable practical attitude sensor appropriate for space small satellites.

A Symplectic Instantaneous Optimal Control for Robot Trajectory Tracking With Differential-Algebraic Equation Models

Robot trajectory tracking control based on differential-algebraic equation (DAE) models is still a thorny issue, because the DAEs of such systems are inherently complex and unstable, such as the high-index problem. In this paper, a symplectic instantaneous optimal control (IOC) method for robot trajectory tracking with input saturation based on controlled DAEs is proposed. Based on the discrete variational principle and the canonical transformation, a symplectic discretization form for the controlled DAEs is first constructed. Then, the continuous trajectory tracking problem is approximated for a series of IOC problems at every time step, and the linear complementarity problem (LCP) can be derived for solving the IOC problems. Finally, the control inputs can be obtained by solving the corresponding standard LCP. The proposed method provides a unified framework for solving the trajectory tracking control problems of robot multibody dynamic systems. Numerical simulations and virtual experiments are conducted to verify the robustness and the efficiency of the proposed method, i.e., the input saturation constraints are satisfied at the discrete time points, and high accuracy tracking control results can be obtained at low computational cost.

Geometrical modulation transfer function of different active pixel of CMOS APS

The geometrical Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) of CMOS APS (active pixel sensor) is analyzed in this paper. Advanced APS have been designed and fabricated where different pixel shapes such as square, rectangle and L shape, were placed, because the amplifier circuit and other function circuits inter pixel of APS take up some pixel area. MTF is an important figure of merit in focal plane array imaging sensors. Research on analyzing the MTF for the proper pixel shape is currently in progress for a centroidal configuration of a target position. MTF will give us a more complete understanding of the tradeoffs opposed by the different pixel designs and by the signal processing conditions. Based on image sensor sampling and reconstructing model, the MTF expression of any active pixel shape has been deduced in this paper. According to actual pixel shape, three different active area pixels were analyzed, they were square, rectangle, and L shape, their Fill Factor (FF) is 30%, 44% and 55%, respectively. Results of simulation experiments indicate that different pixel geometrical characteristics contribute significantly to the figures of their MTF. Different geometrical shape of active sensitive area of pixel and different station in pixel would influence MTF figures. The analysis results are important in designing better APS pixel and more important in analyzing imaging system performance of APS subpixel precision system.

Dynamic Characteristics Analysis of DFIG Based on IMC

A detailed mathematical model of doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) is derived according to generator convention. A novel S-Function is proposed to describe the mathematical model of DFIG. The simulation subsystems of no-load operation and generator operation are developed based on state equations. The control of the rotor current inner loop and the rotating speed outer loop are designed based on internal model control (IMC) strategies, respectively. A full variable- speed constant-frequency (VSCF) DFIG wind power generation system model is developed based on MATLAB. The dynamic response of an 850 KW for grid connection system under rotating speed variation and large three-phase disturbance conditions is studied. The results reveal that the proposed simulation model is effective in regulating rotational speed and dynamic response under various run conditions.
