Fast Constraint Screening for Multi-Interval Unit Commitment

Power systems Unit Commitment (UC) problem determines the generator commitment schedule and dispatch decisions for power networks based on forecasted electricity demand. However, with the increasing penetration of renewables and stochastic demand behaviors, it becomes challenging to solve the large-scale, multi-interval UC problem in an efficient manner. The main objective of this paper is to propose a fast and reliable scheme to eliminate a set of redundant or inactive physical constraints in the high-dimensional, multi-interval, mixed-integer UC problem, while the reduced problem is equivalent to the original full problem in terms of commitment decisions. Our key insights lie on pre-screening the constraints based on the load distribution and considering the physical feasibility regions of multi-interval UC problem. For the multistep UC formulation, we overcome screening conservativeness by utilizing the multi-step ramping relationships, and can reliably screen out more constraints compared to current practice. Extensive simulations on both specific load samples and load regions validate the proposed technique can screen out more than 80% constraints while preserving the feasibility of multi-interval UC problem.

Low-Temperature Co-Pyrolysis Products of Low Rank Coal and Enteromorpha

Co-pyrolysis characteristics of low rank coal (LRC) and enteromorpha (EN) in different proportins were studied in a dry distillation equipment. The results show that he maximum tar yiled of blends was 11.39% with a EN ration of 30%, which increased by 28.61% compared to LRC pyrolysis alone. In the co-pyrolysis tar ,the alkanes’ content was 48.66% and the phenolic was 9.12%, which was significantly higher than the content of the corresponding components of the original tar. The H/C ratio was increased by 9.87%. It indicated the pyrolysis tar became lighter on some degree. While the contents of CH 4 and H 2 in the pyrolysis gas were increased. SEM analysis showed the surface of co-pyrolysis semi-coke became rough and formed obvious center cracks. The heat value of co-pyrolysis semi-coke was higher than that of semi-coke from LRC.

Destructive Effect of Water Vapour on an In Situ Diffusion Barrier Layer within an Aluminide Coating on IN738 Alloy

High-temperature interdiffusion within a hot-dipped aluminide (Al-10 wt.% Si) coating on an IN738 superalloy was investigated at 1050 °C in air and in air plus water vapour. The resulting morphology of in situ diffusion barrier layer (DBL) within the aluminide coating is affected by oxidizing atmospheres; DBL can effectively retard the interdiffusion of aluminium within the coating. The location of the in situ DBL is governed by the partial pressure of oxygen at different depths from the oxide scales in both atmospheres. Meanwhile, the diffusion fluxes of different elements led to DBLs with different morphologies in the aluminide coating on the Ni-based alloy.

Memory Efficient Mutual Information-Maximizing Quantized Min-Sum Decoding for Rate-Compatible LDPC Codes

In this letter, we propose a two-stage design method to construct memory efficient mutual information-maximizing quantized min-sum (MIM-QMS) decoder for rate-compatible low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. We first develop a modified density evolution to design a unique set of lookup tables (LUTs) that can be used for rate-compatible LDPC codes. The constructed LUTs are optimized based on their discrepancy values and a merge function to reduce the memory requirement. Numerical results show that the proposed rate-compatible MIM-QMS decoder can reduce the memory requirement for decoding by up to 94.92% compared to the benchmark rate-compatible LUT-based decoder with generally faster convergence speed. In addition, the proposed decoder can approach the performance of the floating-pointing belief propagation decoder within 0.15 dB.

Study on Mechanism of Low Temperature Co-Pyrolysis of Duckweed and Flame Coal

Co-pyrolysis characteristics of long flame coal mixed with duckweed in different proportions were studied by using TG. And the kinetic parameters was also figured out by using the method of Coats-Redfern. It was exhibited significant synergistic effect created more the light component between duckweed and coal during co-pyrolysis, The pyrolysis rate of flame coal is much smaller than biomass, and the starting pyrolysis temperature of flame coal is higher than biomass. The kinetic analysis indicated that the pyrolytic processes can be described as first order reactions model. The average activation energy of duckweed and coal was 39.14kJ/mol and 46.43kJ/mol , and with the increasing of the duckweed proportion, pyrolysis activation energy was decreased.

A primary myeloid sarcoma involving the small intestine and mesentery: case report and literature review.

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare, extramedullary hematological malignant tumor. MS, which is shown to precede acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and in which bone marrow aspiration or biopsy finds no hematological disorder, is classified as primary or isolated MS. Primary MS with no evidence of the cancer in the blood is rare. Herein, we report a case of a primary MS involved the small intestine and mesentery. A 40-year-old man with intermittent upper vague abdominal pain for 1 month was admitted to the hospital on October 20th, 2017. The pain was obviously aggravated after food ingestion, but he had no nausea or vomiting. An abdominal computed tomography (CT) showed a soft tissue density mass in the mesenteric region and a wall thickening of the jejunum. Positron emission tomography (PET)-CT imaging with 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) showed a significant uptake inmesenteric regional mass (7.6 cm × 4.1 cm) and jejunum wall. The patient underwent a laparotomy, and the involved part of the small intestine along with the mesentery was resected. Histological examination and immunohistochemical (IHC) staining determined the pathological diagnosis was MS. Clinical laboratory tests and a bone marrow biopsy were used to rule out systemic AML. The patient had been treated with a combination of pirarubicin and cytarabine. A follow-up CT scan and necessary clinical laboratory tests were performed after the surgery and no abnormalities were found. To date, the patient continues to be in complete remission. In conclusion, primary MS is a rare disease, yet the diagnosis of MS should be considered when any mass with diffusely infiltrating tumor cells is observed.
