Background and Objectives: As shown in previous studies, pentraxin 3 (PTX3) can be a useful inflammatory marker for metabolic syndrome and central obesity.Serum PTX3 levels are also an independent factor associated with visceral fat area. The aim of this study was to assess the role of PTX3 as an inflammatory maker in patients with central obesity undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) following an ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).Sub- jects and Methods: From December 2007 to June 2008, 40 subjects (mean age: 61±11 years, M : F=34 : 6) with STEMI who underwent primary PCI were enrolled. We determined waist circumference, waist/hip ratio, body mass index (BMI), and visceral and total fat area via fat computed tomography (FAT-CT), and compared them with serum PTX3 concentrations. Results: The serum PTX3 concentration was closely related to FAT-CT-estimated visceral fat area (r=0.41,p<0.01) and total fat area (r=0.38,p=0.01), respectively. The serum PTX3 concentration was not related to waist circumference (r=0.27,p= 0.20), waist circumference/hip ratio (r=0.25,p=0.16),BMI (r=0.04,p=0.80) and lipid profiles, respectively.Among the parameters determining metabolic syndrome, an increasing visceral fat area had the strongest association with PTX3 concentrations. Conclusion:In patients with STEMI, PTX3 is associated with central obesity and it is significantly and independently correlated with visceral fat area.FAT-CT-estimated visceral fat area is the most reliable factor associated with serum PTX3 levels in patients with STEMI and central obesity. This study examined the expectations and attitudes toward retirement, and financial planning for retirement among paid workers aged 20s and 30s. It compared paid workers' socio-economic, and retirement-related characteristics between those who had retirement planning and those who did not, and identified factors important to retirement planning decision. Data for this study were from a questionnaire completed by paid workers in age 20s and 30s (n=227), and were analyzed by t-tests, chi-square tests, and a logistic regression model. The findings of this study were as follows: First, the paid workers' expected retirement age was 56, and their ideal age for retirement was about 60. More than 85% of workers agreed that the retirement planning should begin before age 40, but just 51 % of the workers had retirement planning. Second, the workers aged 30s, married, and those who had higher incomes and home ownership were more likely to prepare financially for their retirement. Third, as their expected retirement age increased, the probability of decision to retirement planning increased. Those who expected that the economic status of retirees' living would be same as their current economic status were more likely to have retirement planning. The positive attitudes toward retirement had significant effect on the decision to have retirement planning.
Adapting the maintenance criteria of Seoul City pavement is not applicable for borough pavement due to differences between the pavement of Seoul city and the borough, such as priority of maintenance, traffic volume, thickness of pavement, and pavement deterioration rate by distresses. To develop an efficient and reasonable evaluation method of the Seocho borough pavement condition within a limited budget, this study suggested the borough pavement condition evaluation model based on the PMS (Pavement Management System) of Seoul Metropolitan SPI (Seoul Pavement Index). The SPI was modified to predict the remaining life and determine the proper maintenance method for the pavement in Seocho borough. This was suggested to reflect the rate of the designed performance life and field performance life of pavement as well as the pavement condition at the stage of the completion of construction. Primary variables, such as crack, rutting and IRI in the final model affect the overall performance life due to their even composition. Therefore, the suggested model considering the lowered criteria, design performance factor, and construction factor can be used for the more efficient maintenance of Seocho borough pavement.
