Deep Reinforcement Learning-based Task Offloading and Resource Allocation in MEC-enabled Wireless Networks

Mobile edge computing (MEC) has recently become an enabling technology for mobile operators that are offering a diverse set of services. These services require extensive storage, energy, and computation resources. However, user devices (UDs) have resource constraint to meet the requirements of such services. To tackle the contradiction between resource-constrained UDs and computationally intensive services, MEC have been proposed. MEC servers provide task execution services for UDs. On receiving a service request from the UDs, a MEC server within the network may dynamically allocate computation and memory resources for the task execution. As the MEC servers have limited capacity, efficient utilization of MEC resources is necessitated. Also, it is challenging to find an optimal solution for efficient resource allocations due to different task requirements for a diverse set of services offered to users and dynamicity in wireless networks. To address these problems, we propose a partial task offloading and resource allocation scheme to maximize user task completion within a tolerable time period while minimizing energy consumption. In this paper, we convert the formulated optimization problem to a markov decision process (MDP) and then propose a solution based on the deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) algorithm. The performance results show that the proposed method completes a greater number of tasks within a tolerable delay and reduces the energy consumption in the network, compared to those of other conventional schemes.

Selection of UE relay considering QoS class for public safety services in LTE-A network

Introduction of Device-to-Device (D2D) communication in public safety (PS) environments has been well investigated by 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). The main target is to provide communication services to user equipments (UE) in the disaster struck area with the help of ordinary UEs over D2D links. UE-relaying is one of the most important application of D2D communication especially in PS environment. While selecting this type of relay, several factors have to be considered prior to the selection process. Previously, only transmission rates were considered for the selection of UE relay on the basis of received signal strength. We propose a UE relay selection scheme in this article taking into account the quality of service (QoS) class. For that, we consider two important factors which greatly affect the communication process specially in cellular networks; data rates and radial velocity. We use weighted sum model as a tool for selecting most appropriate UE relay. The efficiency of the relay selection process is also increased and we evaluate the performance with the help of system level simulations.

An Efficient Scheme for Supporting Network Mobility in Partially Distributed Mobility Management

In this paper, we apply the Network Mobility protocol (NEMO), which is capable of managing group - based network mobility, in a partially Distributed Mobility Management (DMM) environment. This paper proposed an efficient scheme to support network mobility. When the PR initially accesses the AR, it requests the AR for two prefixes. The first prefix is the Home Network Prefix (HNP), required for the configuration of PR's IP address and the other is Mobile Network Prefix (MNP) which is required for IP configuration of MN. Therefore, even if the MN is added, it is expected that the packet transmission cost is better as compare to the existing schemes, as there is no need for prefix request and information update related signaling between PR and Centralized Mobility Database (CMD). Through analytical results we have shown that our proposed scheme outperforms the existing schemes in terms of packet delivery cost.

Capacity Analysis of Wirelessly Powered Backscatter Communications for Green IoT

Futuristic internet of things (IoT) aims to deploy billions of devices. Limited battery power is one of the major concern in deploying these devices. Moreover, it is infeasible to replace the batteries of these devices in most cases. Considering the massive deployment of IoT devices, low power sensors with wireless energy harvesting capabilities are highly desirable. In this regard, low power backscatter communications is an effective candidate. To accommodate the data traffic of these low power backscatter devices, an efficient spectrum access mechanism is required. Cognitive radio provides an effective solution to efficiently utilize the spectrum and improves the network performance in terms of throughput. This paper proposes a spectrum efficient scheduling scheme for low power backscatter sensors where spectrum is shared with the cellular network to achieve spectrum efficiency. The proposed network is evaluated via simulations, and simulation results demonstrate the improved network performance in terms of throughput and energy harvesting capabilities.

Management Strategy of Bleeding Pelvic Fracture

Although there have been some improvements in mortality and morbidity associated with bleeding pelvic fractures, patients with unstable pelvic fracture are still a therapeutic challenge for the trauma surgeon. Outcomes may be improved through multidisciplinary approaches to control hemorrhage and temporarily stabilize the fracture. Angioembolization has been successfully used for decades but there are some limitations. Recently, pelvic stabilization with extraperitoneal pelvic packing was introduced as an alternative or adjunctive therapy. Resource Allocation Scheme Considering Local Channel Quality Information and Buffer Status of Relay Nodes in Relay-Based Cellular Networks

In this letter, we propose a distributed resource allocation scheme to improve performance of relay-based cellular networks. In the proposed scheme, eNB allocates resources to user equipments (UEs) by considering differences in UEs' channel status between relay and access zones, and to relay nodes (RNs) by considering both channel and buffer status of the RNs. Simulations show the proposed scheme outperforms existing schemes in terms of user throughput and fairness.

Handover triggering mechanism based on IEEE 802.21 in heterogeneous networks with LTE and WLAN

As the demands for various multimedia services requiring high capacity increase, shortage of wireless resources becomes a serious problem in cellular networks. In order to reduce the heavy load and increase overall capacity of cellular networks, internetworking between WLANs and cellular networks has being considered. However, in the internetworking of cellular networks and WLANs, since performance of overall networks is closely related with the execution timing of vertical handover, an efficient vertical handover triggering mechanism is required. Thus, in this paper, we propose a data rate based vertical handover triggering mechanism (DR-HTM) based on IEEE 802.21 Media Independent Handover (MIH) standard in order to maximize capacity of both WLANs and cellular networks. In DR-HTM, whenever a mobile node discovers WLAN, it obtains achievable data rate of the WLAN by using remote MIH services. Based on the information, the mobile node determines execution of vertical handover. To evaluate the performance of the DR-HTM, we have performed intensive simulations for handover triggering mechanisms based on data rate and RSS. From the results, we can find that loads of cellular networks are effectively shared with WLANs and capacity of overall networks can be maximized by using DR-HTM.
