Research on Identification Technology for Fire Backdraft and Design of Early Warning Device

In recent years, fire backdraft has occurred frequently and caused many casualties. Given the current situation that firefighters lack technical measures to identify and deal with fire backdraft, to improve the ability of firefighters to deal with fire backdraft, a fire backdraft experimental device was established. Several fire backdraft experiments were carried out in various scenarios, the data of internal temperature, concentration for combustible gases, and oxygen were collected and characteristics of smoke before backdraft occurred were observed. technics for identification of fire backdraft was proposed, development of the warning devices for fire backdraft was introduced. this study will play a very important role for firefighters to navigate the backdraft and avoid further casualties to firefighters.

Flow Instabilities in Axial Turbines of Compressed Air Energy Storage System Under Low-Load Conditions

Flow instabilities have negative impacts on turbine performance and operational reliability. To investigate flow instability characteristic of air turbine, two-stage axial flow turbines, small-scale turbine (AT-S) and large-scale turbine (AT-L) of Compressed Air Energy Storage systems are adopted to conduct three-dimensional unsteady numerical simulations. Two low-load conditions of AT-S with a radial inlet chamber (RIC) were firstly analyzed. At the lowest relative mass flow (mrel) of 0.18, rotating instability (RI) or rotating stall (RS) phenomena were not found in AT-S with R2 aspect ratio at 2.4. There was vortex instability in the RIC, and it could migrate downstream, but couldn't transfer to R2 inlet. Thus, analysis on four low-load conditions of AT-L without RIC was conducted, where the R2 aspect ratio is 5.4. When mrel was reduced to 0.28, RI would occur. As mrel decreased to 0.18, then RS would occur. The main cause of RI and RS is the radial secondary flows, which lead to the appearance of disturbance clusters. When RI occurs, there are three flow modes, Through-flow mode (TM), Choke mode (CM), and Separation mode (SM). When RS occurs, only CM and SM flow modes exist, and the CM mode is different from that in RI.

An improved device for the 3D optical scanner calibration and related influence factors on calibrating result

Nowadays, in industrial area, many mechanical part manufactures are applying 3D optical scanner in their production shop to do part online inspection, or in their coordinate measurement laboratory to obtain crucial part dimensions. The high demands of the 3D optical scanner make it necessary for researchers to create convenient and stable device for calibrating this kind of contact-less measurement instrument. In a former study, we introduced a plate with standard spheres as a calibration device, which showed a good test result when applied on a 3D optical scanner. However, we decide to do more research on related area. The first purpose of this paper is to present an improved calibration device based on our former study and daily work experience. The new device has a wider test range with less spheres, and it's structure is more portable, stable and more convenient to provide spatial positions. Results showed that the new device performed well in data stability and is quite easy to practice. The second purpose of this work is to study related influence factors on the 3D optical scanner calibration process. We investigated factors such as temperature, points cloud density, reflection patch density and numbers of images stitching. The results showed that those factors should be limited in proper conditions to ensure an acceptable calibration of 3D optical scanner.

The Techniques and Progress of Wind and Temperature Lidar in WIPM

In this paper, a lidar system in Wuhan Institute of Physics and Mathematics (WIPM, 30.5°N,114.5°E) for atmospheric density, temperature and wind observation was reported. The design and techniques of this lidar were described in detail. The atmospheric temperature of the troposphere, stratosphere and lower mesosphere were measured by the Raman, Rayleigh and sodium channel of this lidar system, respectively.

Experimental Study of the Circulation Air Volume of Recirculation Evaporative Cooling

This paper introduces the technology of re-circulation evaporative cooling (REC), which uses a portion of supply air as secondary air to make cool water used to indirectly cool outside air through a heat exchanger. The circulation volume of secondary air is one of the main factors that have an impact on the ef- fectiveness of REC. According to the technology, a set of apparatus was set up. The cooling effect was tested under different circulation volumes of secondary air in summer. The test results show that the cooling effec- tiveness rapidly increases and then levels off with the increase of the ratio of circulation volume. BI-LAYER BEAMS ON ELASTIC FOUNDATION WITH HORIZONTAL FRICTIONAL RESISTANCE

Based on Goodman model,which is used for simulating the contact condition between beams,using Winkler foundation model upgraded as an elastic supporting body with horizontal and vertical forces,a set of differential equations and relevant theoretical solutions for bi-layer beams on the elastic foundation with the horizontal frictional resistance are obtained.Considering the vertical tension and compression and the horizontal shear of beams,a concept of the generalized reaction modulus for interlayer foundation isproposed and the corresponding formulas are obtained.The influence of the horizontal frictional resistance on the deflection,the total sectional moment and the maximum flexural stress of bi-layer beams is discussed.The results show that the influence of the horizontal frictional resistance can not be ignored.

Urban Vegetation Estimation Derived from QuickBird Based on Object-oriented Method

Urban vegetation is considered a crucial factor for realizing environmental quality goals and foreseeing sustainable local development in the framework of Local Agenda21 guiding environmental politics. High-resolution image offer abundance function in improving method of urban environment and guideline of evaluation. The method of Object-oriented classification, considered both spectral characters and structural information, can provide high-resolution images' classification precision and reduce large data redundancy compared with the traditional pixel-based classification methods. In this paper, we use object-oriented method to extract different green space based on various urban environmental land use, such as commonality green, street green and so on.. The QuickBird image is segmented to a set of different scale image, we have make many experiment in order to obtain the optimal segmentation of every level, so the image is segmented by scale 6, and then each object is classified into non-vegetation and 3 kinds of vegetation classes based on the nearest neighbour classifier (NN), Due to the effect of mixed pixels, the second segmentation level scale 5 is carried out into the non-vegetation class and several omitted vegetation objects are derived. Finally, we use a GIS mapping data combined with the results of vegetation classification to separate urban vegetation area into different usages (i.e. commonality green, street green...). Through analyse to the result of classification, the area of the vegetation is 597.63 hm ² , the urban garden fraction is 25.38%. This method offers a new application approach for classifying the high-resolution remote sensing image and the result of accuracy can reach 98%.

Development of a calibration device for the optical scanner

A calibration device for the optical scanner is presented in this paper for the situation that lacking of a convenient calibration method for the optical scanner in domestic industry practice. The device utilized the spherical center distance of fixed balls as standard dimensions. It can provide various dimensions in different orientations and magnitudes since it has nine fixed standard balls in different positions. When we run an actual measurement process on this device with an optical scanner, the indication error of the scanner can be obtained conveniently. The device is simple in structure and easy to operate, it can produce multiple dates in one single measurement process simultaneously, which can evaluate the performance of the optical scanner comprehensively.
