Learning Residual Finite-State Automata Using Observation Tables

We define a two-step learner for RFSAs based on an observation table by using an algorithm for minimal DFAs to build a table for the reversal of the language in question and showing that we can derive the minimal RFSA from it after some simple modifications. We compare the algorithm to two other table-based ones of which one (by Bollig et al. 2009) infers a RFSA directly, and the other is another two-step learner proposed by the author. We focus on the criterion of query complexity.

Towards a Knowledge Graph for Science

The document-centric workflows in science have reached (or already exceeded) the limits of adequacy. This is emphasized by recent discussions on the increasing proliferation of scientific literature and the reproducibility crisis. This presents an opportunity to rethink the dominant paradigm of document-centric scholarly information communication and transform it into knowledge-based information flows by representing and expressing information through semantically rich, interlinked knowledge graphs. At the core of knowledge-based information flows is the creation and evolution of information models that establish a common understanding of information communicated between stakeholders as well as the integration of these technologies into the infrastructure and processes of search and information exchange in the research library of the future. By integrating these models into existing and new research infrastructure services, the information structures that are currently still implicit and deeply hidden in documents can be made explicit and directly usable. This has the potential to revolutionize scientific work as information and research results can be seamlessly interlinked with each other and better matched to complex information needs. Furthermore, research results become directly comparable and easier to reuse. As our main contribution, we propose the vision of a knowledge graph for science, present a possible infrastructure for such a knowledge graph as well as our early attempts towards an implementation of the infrastructure.

The development of Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems (ICPS) requires new ways of collaboration between ICPS vendors and companies which provide them with parts and components. As ICPS extend existing systems, e.g. machines or healthcare equipment, by electronic components, new supply chains will evolve between companies which were not connected before. Hence, traditional methods for collaboration will not fit for them anymore. We propose a new approach for collaborations in ICPS development. It relies on technologies from the Semantic Web and consists of a web platform where ICPS vendors and vendors of electrical, electronical, information and communication technology components can virtually meet. Component vendors can describe their products, ICPS element vendors their product ideas and requirements. To match requirements and offers, semantic descriptions of both are necessary. Then, matching of requirements and offers will be realized by semantic reasoners. They have to find RDF graph chains which link requirement and offer descriptions.

Projektbericht : Implementierung eines Hierarchisierungsalgorithmus’ für die Konstanzer Systematik

Die in ihren Grundzugen hierarchisch angelegte Aufstellungssystematik der Bibliothek der Universitat Konstanz ist im Laufe der Zeit durch zahlreiche nicht-hierarchische Strukturen erganzt worden, so dass ein heterogenes Gebilde entstanden ist. Auserdem kam der Wunsch nach Austauschbarkeit der Konstanzer Klassifikation mit anderen bibliothekarischen Einrichtungen auf. Aus diesen Grunden soll die Systematik nun bereinigt werden. Dazu wird als zentrales Werkzeug ein Diagnosealgorithmus benotigt, welcher sichtbar macht, wie weit die aktuelle Systematik von einem vorher zu definierenden, moglichst baumformigen Idealzustand entfernt ist. In diesem Projekt ist ein solcher Algorithmus entwickelt und implementiert worden.

Automatisierte und semiautomatisierte Klassifizierung - eine Analyse aktueller Projekte

Das sprunghafte Anwachsen der Menge digital verfugbarer Dokumente gepaart mit dem Zeit- und Personalmangel an wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken legt den Einsatz von halb- oder vollautomatischen Verfahren fur die verbale und klassifikatorische Inhaltserschliesung nahe. Nach einer kurzen allgemeinen Einfuhrung in die gangige Methodik beleuchtet dieser Artikel eine Reihe von Projekten zur automatisierten Klassifizierung aus dem Zeitraum 2007-2012 und aus dem deutschsprachigen Raum. Ein Grosteil der vorgestellten Projekte verwendet Methoden des Maschinellen Lernens aus der Kunstlichen Intelligenz, arbeitet meist mit angepassten Versionen einer kommerziellen Software und bezieht sich in der Regel auf die Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC). Als Datengrundlage dienen Metadatensatze, Abstracs, Inhaltsverzeichnisse und Volltexte in diversen Datenformaten. Die abschliesende Analyse enthalt eine Anordnung der Projekte nach einer Reihe von verschiedenen Kriterien und eine Zusammenfassung der aktuellen Lage und der grosten Herausfordungen fur automatisierte Klassifizierungsverfahren.
