Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide the basic data of a comprehensive counter-plan to promote health for people by comparing various factors related to cancer outbreak factors including general characteristics, health-related lifestyles, health promoting behaviors, perceived healthy status, life event stress and health care seeking behaviors with cancer patients and health people. Method: The study was designed to be a retrospective-comparison-survey-study and its data was collected through 5 types of questionnaires from September 2003 to December 2003. Results: Cancer patients had lower education and household income, and many of them had no occupation. Cancer patients had a higher rate of smoking and drinking periods. Exercise level was higher in healthy people. However, Cancer patients were better in sleep and rest. In comparison with health promoting behaviors, it was higher in healthy people than in cancer patients but the two groups had no significant differences statistically. The perceived health status was higher in healthy people than in cancer patients. The health care seeking behaviors were higher in healthy people than in cancer patients. Cancer patients and healthy people's life event stress had no significant differences statistically. Conclusion: As a result of comparative analysis of cancer patients and healthy people's health risk factors, smoking, drinking period, regular exercise and health care seeking behaviors were suggested as direct or indirect risk factors for cancer patients. These finding can be applied to health promoting behavior programs to keep and promote optimal health status as well as to prevent cancer disease.

【The purpose of this study is to evaluate the causal relationship among the MBNQA health care criteria in Korean University Hospitals. The survey instrument consists of 109 questions based on the seven MBNQA health care criteria: '1.Leadership', '2.Strategic Planning', '3.Focus on Patients Other Customers. Markets', '4.Measurement Analysis Knowledge Management', '5.Human Resource Focus', '6.Process Management', and '7.Results'. Structural Equation Modeling(SEM) is used to analyze the path coefficients among the seven categories. The results indicate that fourteen hypotheses are statistically significant, among eighteen hypotheses. Conclusively, this study found that Leadership drives systems that create Results through Foundation and Direction.】
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the casual relationship between nurses’ social capital and turnover intention and to verify the goodness of fit between a hypothetical model and actual data in order to suggest the best model. Methods: This survey was conducted with 315 nurses working in general hospitals in Seoul. Data were collected from December 1 to December 30, 2011, and analyzed using SPSS Windows 18.0 and AMOS 16.0. Results: Nurses’ social capital was found to have a direct effect on reducting organization cynicism and increasing organizational commitment. Nurses’ organizational cynicism and organizational commitment were found to have a direct effect on turnover intention, but social capital did not have a direct effect on turnover intention. However, social capital had a partial and indirect effect on turnover intention through mediating organizational cynicism and organizational commitment. Conclusion: Results of this study indicate that nurse managers should put increased effort in reducing nurses’ organizational cynicism and improving their organizational commitment, two contrary parameters. At the same time managers need to develop plans to establish social capital more efficiently so that nurses have lower turnover intention.
Objective: This research has been conducted in order to conduct sex education using information and communication technologies (ICT) which is currently taught to elementary school students, understand how this method of education affects the knowledge of and attitude towards sexual health in them, so that it could be actually applied in classrooms. Subject: 115 students were divided into three different groups: a comparison group of 38 students (who were given no sex education at all), control 2 group of 39 students (who were given sex education via video programmes), and control 1 group of 38 students (who were given sex education using ICT). Research Tool: A questionnaire used by the literature studies. After verifying content validity, it was modified and supplemented in this way: sex knowledge was reduced to 26, and sex attitude was also reduced to 11. The reliability of the research tool was Cronbach's a=0.86 for sex knowledge tool, and Cronbach's a=0.8l for sex attitude tool. The collected data have been analysed using SPSS 11.0 program. The content validity was analysed by factor analysis and multiple regression analysis, and hypothesis verification was analysed using repeated measure ANOVA test. Result: 1) In sex knowledge marks, there was a significant difference according to the group (P=.009) and point of time (P=.000), and there was a significant interaction between the groups and point of time(P=.000). As a result, it turned out that both video programmes and ICT were significantly effective in improve the knowledge. 2) In sex attitude marks, there were no significant differences according to the group (P=.213), but there was a significant difference according to point of time (P=.002), and there was a significant interaction between the groups and point of time(P=.018). As a result, it turned out that only the education method using ICT was effective in improving the attitude. Conclusion: From the results of this research, it can be said that the sex education using ICT was the most effective method in improving the sex knowledge and attitude of students at elementary school. Therefore, it is advisable that the sex education methods using ICT should be developed and applied continuously.
Objectives: This study focuses on the effectiveness of a five-day target youth smoking cessation program in terms of smoking behavior, psychological characteristics, physiological changes, and 1-month maintenance of non-smoking. Methods: The participants in this one-group pre-posttest study were 91 youth smokers registered to a smoking cessation school at a hospital in Seoul. Data analyses performed include descriptive statistics, x2-test, paired t-test, and ANOVA. Results: A five-day smoking cessation program significantly decreased expired carbon monoxide level, stress, and depression. In post-intervention urine test, urine cotinine was detected in 14 of 91 participants(15.4%). In a one-month follow-up telephone survey 80.2% responded maintaining non-smoking. Conclusion: This study demonstrated the effect of a five-day smoking cessation program for adolescent smokers.

This study is a descriptive investigation into the image of nurses, and attempted to help to advance the profession of nursing and to provide basic data for developing strategies to improve the image of nurses. The Subject of this study was a group of 380 persons from a K Medical Centre in Seoul, including the hospital patients and their guardians, as well as the doctors, assistants and hospital administrative staff. The data have been collected from the 10th to the 30th of May, 2003. We have developed a research tool of 40 questions divided into three categories using a tool developed by Kim, H.J and KIm, H.O.(2001) verifying its construct validity. The reliability of the tool was Cronbache`α .97, and by categories, Cronbach`s α=.86 for service image, Cronbach`s α=.96 for professional image and Cronbache`s α=.90 for social image. The collected data have been analysed according to the purpose of this study using SPSS WIN 11.0 for real number, percentage, factors analysis, multiple regression analysis, ANOVA and x2 - test, and the results are as follows: 1) There was a significant difference in the image of nurses by job series of the subjects; from patients and guardians for 4.01 to doctors 3.62, assistants 3.54 and staff members 3.41 (F=36.14, p=.000). As well, there was a significant difference in service, professional and social image categories according to the position of the subjects (F=20.36∼42.35, p=.000). 2) The main factors that affect on formation the nurse`s imaging came by direct experiences with nurses at hospitals for 81.3%, by looking at the every life of the nurses that the subjects personally know for 15.5%, by mass media for 1.6% and by the accounts from the others for 1.6%. 3) 78.4% of the subjects considered that the image of nurses on mass media is described better than for real, 8.2% believed that the image is described worse than for real, and only 13.2% of the subjects perceived that the image of nurses on mass media corresponds the image of nurses in actual life. 4) 74.5% of the subjects said that they got a better image of nurses after their hospitalization while 2% got a worse one and 23.5% said to have had no changes, and the period of hospitalization had no relevance to the image of nurses (χ2=5.04, P=.489). However, while 16.8% of the subjects who spent less than one week in hospital said that they got a better image of nurses, 27.5% of those who spent longer than four weeks got a better image of nurses. 5) There was a significant difference in the total image points of nurses by the patients and their guardians according to the period of hospitalization; 4.14 for 1 to 2 weeks, 4.07 for 2 to 4 weeks, 4.02 for 4 weeks and longer and 3.80 for less than a week (F=3.40, P=.019). Upon the results stated above, I should like to propose as below: 1) An investigative enquiry is needed to improve the image of nurses as though being a nurse is very hard and difficult. 2) A continuous monitoring in mass media is needed to create a positive image of nurses.
