Driver fatigue is a significant issue in driving safety. Large bodies of literature have examined fatigue detection methods and techniques. This paper provides a broad overview of the researches concerning related topics. So far, driver fatigue detection techniques developed can be divided into three categories, including techniques based on vehicle movement tracking, drivers behavioral features and electroencephalograph signals. In addition, a contrast between these techniques was presented and further researches were discussed.
In this study, a needle–cylinder electrostatic precipitator with a water cooling system was designed to enhance the harvest of atmospheric water in wet flue gas. The effects of flow rate, temperature and particles on the collection of fog droplets were investigated. Meanwhile, the energy efficiency of water collection was analyzed at different voltages. The results show that the current decreases with the increase of air relative humidity under the same voltage, and the breakdown voltage increases obviously. Concurrently, by appropriately reducing the wet flue gas flow velocity, the residence time of fog droplets in the electric field can be increased, fully charging the droplets and improving the water collection efficiency. Moreover, experiments revealed that through decreasing the flue gas temperature, both the water collection rate and energy efficiency can be improved. In addition, the presence of particles in wet gas can improve the water collection rate by 5~8% at different discharge voltages. Finally, based on energy efficiency analysis, with the increase of voltage, although the water collection rate increased, the energy efficiency decreased.
Literature-based knowledge discovery method was introduced by Dr. Swanson in 1986.He hypothesized a connection between Raynaud's phenomenon and dietary fish oil, the field of literaturebased discovery (LBD) was born from then on.During the subsequent two decades, LBD's research attracts some scientists including information science, computer science, and biomedical science, etc..It has been a part of knowledge discovery and text mining. This paper summarizes the development of recent years about LBD and presents two parts, methodology research and applied research.Lastly, some problems are pointed as future research directions.
In this study, field research was used to study the mental workload during the production process. The physiological signals of electroencephalogram (EEG) and Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) were recorded by using NeXus-10 equipment. The novices yielded significantly larger mental workload than veterans in the right hemisphere for theta, SMR, beta and gamma band. To investigate whether the given process activated both the left and right brain in a balanced manner, we calculated asymmetry index. Novice group yielded higher asymmetry index than veteran group for theta and SMR band. GSR was small higher which induced more negative emotions for the novice group than the veteran group. These would be used as new factors added into production system management
Human factor is an important issue in industrial engineering system. Mental and physical states in the manufacturing process greatly influence workers performance. In this study, EEG data were recorded to analyze mental workload and EMG data to analyze physical workload when a worker was tasks in the production line. Video camera was used to record the manufacturing process simultaneously. We could detect the time periods within which the workers mental workload or physical workload was at a high level. By tracking the operating process through the video, we were able to find the potential problems leading to high workload, and thus optimize the design of manufacturing process or machine in order to decrease mental and physical workload and improve production efficiency.
A lab-scale wire–cylinder type ESP with the collection electrode cooling by water is used for investigations. The heat transfer coefficient of present system rises with reducing gaseous velocity, increasing applied voltage, corona current or gas temperature. For lowering the overall energy consumption, the ESP should be operated at a specific mode of low voltage and high current. The ionic wind, which is quantitatively expressed by electro-hydrodynamic number, plays a key role through modifying the gas flow patterns and consequently improving the heat exchange coefficient. And the presence of particle matters is found to further improve the heat transfer coefficient.
This paper started with the review of the evolvement of industrial engineering and illustrated the new problems encountered in modern industrial engineering. By using the Seven Elements Pyramid Model in the new generation of value engineering, researchers and practitioners are able to discover the sources and processes of value generation. Moreover, since human resource is an indispensible part of value engineering, we find it is in great need of new research methods to study workers’ physiological and psychological status in the course of work. Therefore, neuroscience methods are introduced into the modern industrial engineering, creating the new field of Neural Industrial Engineering (NeuroIE).
