Dirac Equation in (1+1)D Curved Spacetime and multi-photon Quantum Rabi Model

We introduce an exact mapping between the Dirac equation in (1+1)D curved spacetime (DCS) and a multi-photon quantum Rabi model (mQRM). A background of a (1+1)D black hole (BH) requires a QRM with one and two-photon terms, that can be implemented in a trapped ion for the quantum simulation of Dirac particles in curved spacetime. We illustrate our proposal with a numerical analysis of the free fall of a Dirac particle into a (1+1)D BH, and find that the Zitterbewegung effect, measurable via the oscillatory trajectory of the Dirac particle, persists in the presence of gravity. From the duality between the squeezing term in the mQRM and the metric coupling in the DCS, we show that gravity generates squeezing of the Dirac particle wavefunction.

Nonexponential Quantum Decay under Environmental Decoherence

A system prepared in an unstable quantum state generally decays following an exponential law, as environmental decoherence is expected to prevent the decay products from recombining to reconstruct the initial state. Here we show the existence of deviations from exponential decay in open quantum systems under very general conditions. Our results are illustrated with the exact dynamics under quantum Brownian motion and suggest an explanation of recent experimental observations.

On "Consistent Quantization of Nearly Singular Superconducting Circuits"

The analysis conducted by Rymarz and DiVincenzo (Phys. Rev. X 13, 021017 (2023)) regarding quantization of superconducting circuits is insufficient to justify their general conclusions, most importantly the need to discard Kirchhoff's laws to effect variable reductions. Amongst a variety of reasons, one source of several disagreements with experimental and theoretical results is the long-standing dispute between extended vs compact variables in the presence of Josephson junctions.

Quantum dwell times

We put forward several inherently quantum characteristics of the dwell time, and propose an operational method to detect them. The quantum dwell time is pointed out to be a conserved quantity, totally bypassing Pauli's theorem. Furthermore, the quantum dwell time in a region for one dimensional motion is doubly degenerate. In presence of a potential barrier, the dwell time becomes bounded, unlike the classical quantity. By using off-resonance coupling to a laser we propose an operational method to measure the absorption by a complex potential, and thereby the average time spent by an incoming atom in the laser region.

Qubit alive thanks to the anomaly

We present an exact full symmetry analysis of the 0-$\pi$ superconducting circuit. We identify points in control parameter space of enhanced anomalous symmetry, which imposes robust twofold degeneracy of its ground state, that is for all values of the energy parameters of the model. We show, both analytically and numerically, how this anomalous symmetry is maintained in the low-energy sector, thus providing us with a strong candidate for robust qubit engineering.

Quantum Fluctuations in Electrical Multiport Linear Systems

We present an extension of the classical Nyquist-Thevenin theorem for multiport classical electrical networks by Twiss to the quantum case. Conversely, we extend the quantum fluctuation-dissipation result for one port electrical systems to the multiport case, both reciprocal and nonreciprocal. Our results are extended to lossy systems by depicting resistive components as continuous limits of purely lossless lumped-element networks. Simple circuit examples are analyzed, including a linear system lacking a direct impedance representation.

The nonrelativistic limit of the Majorana equation and its simulation in trapped ions

We analyze the Majorana equation in the limit where the particle is at rest. We show that several counterintuitive features, absent in the rest limit of the Dirac equation, do appear. Among them, Dirac-like positive energy solutions that turn into negative energy ones by free evolution, or nonstandard oscillations and interference between real and imaginary spinor components for complex solutions. We also study the ultrarelativistic limit, showing that the Majorana and Dirac equations mutually converge. Furthermore, we propose a physical implementation in trapped ions.
