Although the need for using IT (Information Technology)
in the construction industry have exploded over years,
there are few specific alternatives to improve
constructability. From the point of IT, the improvement
of constructability is up to fast and precise search of
information. The effective way of information acquisition
in the construction process is to acquire necessary
information of construction objects from drawings.
Thus, this paper presents a conceptual framework for
linking drawing and construction information to improve
efficiency of the construction process through IT.
This research further suggests a way of practica application
of integrated database, which is one of basic elements in CIC
(Computer Integrated Construction), to the construction process.
The method presented in this paper use World Wide Web technology
for effective construction information management of remote areas
of construction sites.
Many pictures are taken at a construction site, but the information of the pictures is not managed in an efficient and systematic manner. For this reason, when a construction worker has scant field experience or knowledge, it is hard to communicate with others efficiently. Therefore, the information of the pictures taken is not fully utilized in any deliberation or conflict among interested parties, facilities maintenance, and construction of another structure, although they were taken for those purposes. This study discusses the need for combining vector-photos with image and 5W and 1H information, and develops a prototype module for creating vector-photos and saving them in a server. The vector-photos taken can be saved to a server in real time, and efficiently managed by a DB system. If a system to link the vector-photos with a BIM model is developed in the future, it is expected that the vector information in the picture can be connected with the property information of an object. As a result, the vector-photos can be utilized in more diverse ways.
We are developing KBIM Submission system which supports the submittal process of the building administrative permission procedures of South Korea. In Korea all the e-documents for permission have to be submitted through SEUMTER, Korean government architectural permission system. KBIM Submission uses as much information gathered as possible during the design process based upon Open BIM environment to minimize user’s additional inputs and other endeavors. Through this system, participants of the project can easily submit project information and documents to SEUMTER to enhance the efficiency of the process. KBIM Submission consists of two major modules. The first one is a project information checking module which confirms the status, correctness, omissions and errors of the project information and documents. The second one is a submission module which sends the information and document files checked to SEUMTER automatically. We have designed the system interfaces and developed the prototype system to testify the effectiveness of the system during the building design process.
Recently, a lot of countries have obliged to use BIM in the AEC Industry. The BIM has been introduced and applied in the many public organizations such as MOLIT(Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport), PPS(Public Procurement Service), LH, EX(Korean Expressway Corporation) to catch up with the fast-developing BIM in the world. For instance, the PPS implemented a testbed for verifying and comparing BIM-based real project. However, it has been delayed to activate BIM, because a lot of construction companies have negative views. In order to solve this problem, KAIA(Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement) has done various R&D business. Furthermore, they hope to accomplish BIM based construction environment. The purpose of this study is to develop an Auto-lingage S/W of structural analysis documents and to define direction for BIM based Design Document Extraction. It study shows its effectiveness by applying the result to some business. This research will help to improve quality of architectural design and efficiency of construction tasks.
