A Hybrid-Bridge-Based Dual Active Bridge Converter With Reduced Device Count

In this paper, a hybrid-bridge-based dual-active-bridge (DAB) converter with a three-level (TL) half-bridge and a two-level full-bridge is proposed, which can be utilized to interface the medium voltage and low voltage DC. In the proposed converter, there are only eight power switches in total. Compared with the traditional hybrid-bridge-based DAB converter with a neutral-point-clamped (NPC) type TL half-bridge, a fewer power device count and higher efficiency can be realized in the proposed converter due to removing clamping diodes. Thus, a more compact circuit structure and a lower cost can be obtained. Moreover, zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) of all switches in primary-side and secondary-side can be achieved in the proposed converter. The operating principle, performances, and characteristics of the proposed converter are analyzed in detail. Also, a specification design case with a detailed key parameter design is given. Finally, a 1-kW experimental prototype is established to validate the proposed converter, and obtained experimental results are highly consistent with the theoretical analysis.

A Hybrid-bridge based Dual Active Bridge DC/DC Converter with Compact Structure

In this paper, a new hybrid-bridge based active bridge (DAB) converter is proposed for interfacing the low- voltage and medium voltage in the DC grids. The proposed converter is composed of a two-level full-bridge and a three- level half-bridge circuit, which only has eight power switches in total. Comparing with the conventional hybrid-bridge based DAB converter with diode-clamped TL bridge, the proposed converter reduces the main device count by removing the clamping diodes. Thus, the proposed converter has a more compact circuit structure and a lower cost. Besides, the proposed converter can achieve the zero-voltage- switching (ZVS) for both primary-side and secondary-side power switches. The basic operation principle, characteristics, and performances of the proposed converter are analyzed in detail. Finally, the simulation results are provided to verify the proposed converter.

Evaluation and Suppression of a Low-Frequency Output Voltage Ripple of a Single-Stage AC–DC Converter Based on an Output Impedance Model

A single-stage ac–dc converter with high power factor (PF) usually suffers from a significant output voltage ripple at double line frequency. In order to suppress such low-frequency output voltage ripple and maintain high PF, a series compensation circuit (SCC), which generates the same magnitude but 180° phase shifted low-frequency voltage ripple, is connected in series with the output of a power factor correction (PFC) converter. In this paper, an output impedance model of the SCC is established and the relationship between the output impedance of the SCC and the low-frequency output voltage ripple of an ac–dc converter is analyzed. Based on the proposed output impedance model, a low-frequency output voltage ripple can be evaluated. To further reduce the low-frequency output voltage ripple, an output impedance shaping method with a virtual impedance is presented. The implementation of the virtual impedance of the SCC with average current mode control is studied. A flyback PFC converter with a buck SCC is implemented for the study of the suppression of the low-frequency output voltage ripple. A prototype is designed to verify the analysis results.

Three-level LLC Resonant Converter with Structure-reconfigurable Control

In the conventional series resonant DC/DC converter, it is difficult to realize the wide output range only under the pulse frequency modulation (PFM) because of the high-power loss caused by the increased switching frequency. Therefore, this paper proposes a three-level (TL) series resonant DC/DC converter with the structure-reconfigurable control to realize the wide output range for the high voltage applications. The proposed converter has two operation configurations, which can not only satisfy the wide output range but also shrink the switching frequency range close to the resonant frequency. Accordingly, the efficiency over the wide output range can be improved. Finally, the simulation results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter.

In this paper, a hybrid-bridge based dual active bridge (DAB) DC/DC converter with a corresponding modulation strategy is proposed for medium voltage applications with a wide voltage conversion gain. The proposed converter is composed of a three-level (TL) full-bridge (FB) with active neutral-point clamping and a two-level FB for interfacing between the medium voltage with low voltage. Compared with the two-level DAB DC/DC converter, the proposed converter has the following merits. 1) The voltage stress on power switches is lower due to the TL structure, which is thus more suitable for medium voltage applications. 2) The wider voltage conversion gain can be achieved thanks to the proposed corresponding modulation strategy with multiple working patterns. Besides, the proposed converter can achieve the zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) for both primary-side and secondary-side power switches. The operation principle, characteristics, and performances of the proposed converter are analyzed in detail. Finally, the simulation results are provided to verify the proposed converter.

A Comparative Study of Modulation Strategies for Diode-Clamped Full-Bridge Three-Level Isolated DC/DC Converter

The diode-clamped full-bridge (FB) three-level isolated DC/DC converter (TL-IDC) is one of the most competitive candidates for the medium-voltage applications. Many modulation strategies have been proposed for the diodeclamped FB TL-IDC. However, there is no comparative study on theses modulation strategies. Consequently, this paper conducts a comprehensive comparison and analysis among main modulation strategies for the diode-clamped FB TL-IDC in terms of the duty cycle loss, ZVS range, transformer's voltage stress, power device currents, thermal performances, and converter's efficiency with the consideration of the types of the used power switch (i.e., MOSFET or IGBT) for the primary-side power switches. To verify the comparison and analysis results, an experimental prototype is built for implementing and testing these main modulation strategies. The outcomes of this paper can be considered as a reference for selecting the modulation strategy for diode-clamped FB TL-IDC applied in terms of different applications.
