Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of metoprolol on congestive heart failure (CHF).Methods 120 paitents with CHF were randomly divided into treatment group and control group. The patients in control group received routine treatment including angiotension converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI),diuretic and digitora, ect. The treatment group was added with metoprolol 6.25 mg,twice a day,on the basis of the routine treatment, and increasing doseage gradually, with the maximum of 50 mg,twice a day.The changes of heart rate, blood pressure, cardiac function and ultracardiography were observed before and after treatment. Results The effective rate and total effective rate in treatment group were 76.9% and 90.0%,which were 55.0% and 77.5% in control group respectively. There was a significant difference between two groups (P0.05).After treatment there were significant differences in heart rate, improvement of cardiac function and UCG parameters (E/A,LVEF,LVSD,LVDD)between two groups (P0.01 or P0.05).Conclusion Metoprolol can increase the therapeutic effect on CHF.
