The aim of this study was to examine the regional distribution of opiate alkaloids from seized heroin in experimental animals' brain regions and blood. Results could be used in the examination of opiate alkaloids' distribution in human biological samples in order to contribute to the solution of the causes of death due to heroin intake. Experimental animals (Wistar rats) were treated with seized heroin, and were sacrificed at different time periods: 5, 15, 45 and 120 min after treatment. Opiate alkaloids' (codeine, morphine, acetylcodeine, 6- acetylmorphine and 3,6-diacetylmorphine) content was determined in the brain regions (cortex, brainstem, amygdala and basal ganglia) and blood of animals using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method. The highest content of opiate alkaloids in the blood was measured 15 min, and in the brain tissue 45 min after the treatment with heroin. The maximal concentration of opiates was determined in the basal ganglia. The obtained results offer the possibility of selecting this part of the brain tissue as a representative sample for identifying and assessing the content of opiates.
Proper posture is an indicator of good health, proper growth and development, which is why it is important to start learning about posture from the earliest age using various forms of physical activity. To establish the impact of physical activity on aspects of posture components of children of school age. The study included 120 subjects aged 10-16 years who were grouped into three groups, which was stratified equal number of boys and girls. The first group consisted of 40 children who are actively practice sports. The second group consisted of 40 children who are not actively practice sport a third group of 40 children with deformity of the spine. For research purposes, we used: test for assessing the degree of physical activity and test for the assessment of body posture. By applying multiple regression analysis, we found that there is an influence of different predictors on the dependent variables in all three categorically defined pattern. The strongest positive correlation was found in the first sample categorically defined between predictors warming up exercises in the training and position keeping the legs, and the amount of connections is β = 0.43. The strongest negative correlations were established also at first categorically defined pattern between predictors time spent at the computer and position keeping the legs, and the amount of connections is β = -0.35. It was found that there is a difference in the level of physical activity between the three categorically defined sample (F = 95.687, p = 0.01), and also the difference in posture between the three categorically defined sample (F = 10.93, p = 0.01). The results show the necessity of promotion of various forms of physical activity of children school age in order of their proper growth and development.
Introduction: Periodontal disease is one of the most common diseases in adults. Although the cause of periodontal disease is bacterial infection from the dental plaque, the level of destruction of periodontal tissues depends on risk factors, and smoking is one of the most important ones. Aim: The aim of the present study was to determine the level of alveolar bone resorption in smokers. Materials and Methods: Radiographic examination of all present teeth was conducted in 30 smokers (12 men and 18 women) and 30 non-smokers (13 men and 17 women, control group), 20-60 years of age. Data on smoking habits, smoking period and the number of cigarettes a day were obtained using a questionnaire. The level of alveolar bone resorption was determined on retroalveolar X-rays, by measuring the distance from the amelo-cemental junction to the bone level on mesial and distal sides of each present tooth. Results: In smokers, significantly higher (p=0.00002) values of alveolar bone resorption (3.16 ? 2.07 mm) were found compared to the control group (1.72 ? 1.02 mm). In people who had been smoking for more than 15 years, significantly greater bone resorption was observed compared to those smoking for 15 years or less (p=0.00028). The interceptive relationship showed that smokers were at 2.98x greater risk (95% CI 1.04- 8.52) for the mean value of alveolar bone resorption of > 2 mm compared to non-smokers. Conclusion: The present results have shown that smoking increases alveolar bone resorption and that the period of smoking affects the level of resorption.

In 1965. Sutton and the assistants were the first to suggest division of evocated potentials, according to the stimulus that provoke them, on "exogenous" (under the influence of exogenous stimulus) and "endogenous" or "cognitive" provoked by endogenous stimulus, which depends on the state of consciousness (vigilance), attention, concentration and especially, the type of the task a subject needs to perform during the recording. One of the most studied responses of the event-related potentials is so called "P300", the late positive wave complex which appears around 300 500ms after the stimulus. It is gained when the subjects' attention is focused on the signal which rarely appears, especially if the signal has some emotional or motivational meaning. The aim of this work was to determine whether there was a difference in latency and amplitude of the event related potential P300 when the button is pushed with dominant hand compared with nondominant hand in both males and females. The experiment included 30 subjects (15 males and 15 females). P300 potential was provoked with the auditive "oddball" paradigm. Event-related potencial P300 is recorded with 10-20 system. Cz electrode is set in the middle of nazion-inion line, while Fz electrode is set on the third of nazion-inion line above frontal lobe. In classical "oddball" paradigm, when a subject reacted on the signal by pushing the button with dominant hand, the value of Fz end Cz latency was significantly shorter in comparison to the values of Fz end Cz latency gained by pushing the button with non-dominant hand (left hand) in males, while such differences were not found in females.&nbsp;</p>
Ginkgo biloba is widely used in folk medicine. Patients very often use the plant preparation with no concern for purity. They also tend to increase the dosage by themselves and this may result in certain insufficiently researched acute effects. Due to this extremely widespread application, the aim of this work is an examination of the possible acute effects of Ginkgo bilobaon the motility of the small and the large intestine of rabbits. Тhe effects of Gingium® - a standardized ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) [one milliliter preparation contained 8.8–10.8 mg ginkgo flavonol glycoside and 2.0–2.8 mg lactone ring-containing terpenes (ginkgolides and bilobalides)], on the tonus of isolated segments of the ileum and the colon of rabbits were examined. The experiments were carried out on isolated bowel incisions according to the Magnus method. Data was registered by physiography (Narco-Bio-System). Our results show that GBE (0.006 g/L, - 0.06 g/L) concentration-dependently reduces the tonus of the ileum and the colon of rabbits. Apart from that, GBE reduces the increase of the tonus of the ileum caused by acetylcholine (ACh), but does not change colon tonus intensified by ACh. This indicates that the effects of the used extract in the ileum are predominantly achieved through cholinergic mechanisms, while the relaxant effects in the colon are achieved in some other way.
Different animal models are used to evaluate the process of epileptogenesis. In this investigation the kindling model of epilepsy was used. The epileptic focus was induced in Chinchilla rabbits by stimulation of the hippocampus with electric stimuli. We presumed that the extracts of Ginkgo biloba affect the formation of kindling epilepsy. Bioelectric activity of the brain was registered throughout the development of kindling with and without standardized extracts from dried ginkgo leaves (EGb 761). For each animal the following has been determined: the values of the minimum current strength necessary for the origination of threshold after-discharge (AD) - discharges appearing after the cessation of stimulation; duration of the threshold AD; number of stimulations necessary for the origination of full kindling; time latency for the development of full kindling; number of spontaneous epileptogenic discharges manifested in EEG two days following the formation of full kindling during 60-minute registration. The results show that the process of epileptogenesis was influenced by EGb 761. It has been established that if the animals received EGb 761, significantly weaker minimum current strength was necessary for the development of the epileptogenic focus and the AD were longer, while the number of necessary electrostimulations for the appearance of full kindling was less and the latency was shorter.
To determine the prevalence of heterophoria, fusional convergence and divergence values and the degree of relationship between heterophoria and fusional vergence in preschool children.For assessment of far and near heterophoria in 152 children aged 6-7, cover and prism cover tests were used. Far and near fusional vergences were measured by step vergence testing using prism bars.Orthophoria (-tropia) with the average values of heterophoria around 0 PD (prism diopter) were most common at far, and exophoria around 2 PD at near. The average break values of far fusional convergence and divergence were 13.7 ± 4.4 PD and 7.3 ± 2.1 PD, respectively. Near fusional convergence and divergence break values were 29.6 ± 6.6 PD and 16.2 ± 4.1 PD, respectively. The recovery values were from 1/3 to 1/2 lower than the break values. The correlation between heterophoria at far and far fusional convergence and heterohoria at near and near fusional convergence and divergence was weak, yet significant (r = 0.18 - 0.26; p less than 0.05).In preschool children the prevalence of heterophoria, and values of fusional vergence were in the ranges of values for elementary school children and adults cited in the literature. Heterophoria and fusional convergence at far, and heterophoria and fusional vergences at near have shown a weak relationship.
