The control method of real-time display by MCU was given with DC LCD digital voltmeter as an example and LCD controller as control object.The system circuit and program were designed combining with EDA simulation tools Proteus and system interactive simulation was performed on Proteus,realizing the correct display effect of dynamic data.The reason of error generated was analyzed and the nature of real-time data display control was summarized.

Parallel Computing for Quantitative Blood Flow Imaging in Photoacoustic Microscopy

Photoacoustic microscopy (PAM) is an emerging biomedical imaging technology capable of quantitative measurement of the microvascular blood flow by correlation analysis. However, the computational cost is high, limiting its applications. Here, we report a parallel computation design based on graphics processing unit (GPU) for high-speed quantification of blood flow in PAM. Two strategies were utilized to improve the computational efficiency. First, the correlation method in the algorithm was optimized to avoid redundant computation and a parallel computing structure was designed. Second, the parallel design was realized on GPU and optimized by maximizing the utilization of computing resource in GPU. The detailed timings and speedup for each calculation step were given and the MATLAB and C/C++ code versions based on CPU were presented as a comparison. Full performance test shows that a stable speedup of ~80-fold could be achieved with the same calculation accuracy and the computation time could be reduced from minutes to just several seconds with the imaging size ranging from 1 × 1 mm2 to 2 × 2 mm2. Our design accelerates PAM-based blood flow measurement and paves the way for real-time PAM imaging and processing by significantly improving the computational efficiency.

Choroidal Circulation in 8- to 30-Year-Old Chinese, Measured by SS-OCT/OCTA: Relations to Age, Axial Length, and Choroidal Thickness

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate and explore the determinants of choroidal vascularity and choriocapillaris perfusion in a Chinese population aged 8 to 30 years old. Methods: Three hundred eighty eyes from 380 subjects aged 8 to 30 years were included in this cross-sectional study. Submacular choroidal thickness (ChT), total choroidal area (TCA), luminal area (LA), stromal area (SA), choroidal vascularity index (CVI), and choriocapillaris flow deficit (CcFD) were estimated using images obtained from optical coherence tomography (OCT). Results: In this population, the mean ChT was 260.4 ± 63.3 µm, TCA was 1.56 ± 0.38 mm2, LA was 0.94 ± 0.25 mm2, and SA was 0.62 ± 0.15 mm2. The mean CVI was 60.25 ± 3.21% and CcFD was 11.95 ± 1.98%. Multivariable analyses showed that higher CVI and LA was associated with older age, thicker ChT, and shorter AL; and lower CcFD was associated with shorter AL. However, the associations were not uniformly rectilinear between CcFD and age. Specifically, CcFD was positively associated with age in subjects ≤19 years old and negatively associated with age in subjects >19 years old. Conclusions: Development of the choroidal medium- and large-sized vascular layers and choriocapillaris was different across patients aged 8 to 30 years old. Greater axial length was associated with attenuated choroidal circulation. Choroidal thickness correlated well with choroidal vascularity, but not with choriocapillaris perfusion. Further comprehensive and longitudinal assessment of choroidal vasculature and choriocapillaris perfusion will help greatly to understand the physiological and pathological mechanisms responsible for myopia.

The Protective Effect of Ginsenoside Rg1 on Apoptosis in Human Ankle Joint Traumatic Arthritis Chondrocytes

The ankle biomechanics is easily changed due to the acute injury of the tissue around the ankle joint and the damage of the ankle joint structure, such as ankle instability and joint surface imbalance. When the mechanical load of the ankle changes, it can cause ankle regeneration and remodeling processes such as cartilage loss, bone remodeling, and degenerative changes. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect and mechanism of ginsenoside Rg1 against interleukin-1β (IL-1β)-induced apoptosis in human articular chondrocytes (HACs). The apoptosis model of HAC cells was established by IL-1β induction, and then the HAC cells were cultured with different concentrations of Rg1. The protective effect of Rg1 on HAC cell apoptosis was investigated by detecting the changes of apoptosis and activity of PI3K/Akt/mitochondrial signaling pathway. The results showed that a specific concentration of Rg1 could promote the proliferation of IL-1β-induced HAC cells and inhibit apoptosis. At the same time, Rg1 treatment with specific concentration can reduce the content of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in HACs and improve the related expression of mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP). Furthermore, qRT-PCR and western blot results showed that Rg1 could improve the low expression of Bcl-2 and inhibit the high expression of Bax, caspase-3, caspase-8, caspase-9, FasL, AIF, and Cyto c in IL-1β-induced cells. In summary, Rg1 can inhibit IL-1β-induced apoptosis of HAC cells by decreasing the activity of PI3K/Akt/mitochondrial signaling pathway, and Rg1 has a protective effect on apoptosis of HAC cells.

Changes in Corneal Dendritic Cell and Sub-basal Nerve in Long-Term Contact Lens Wearers With Dry Eye

Objectives: To evaluate the changes of corneal sub-basal nerve (SBN) and dendritic cell (DC) in contact lens (CL) wearers with mild dry eye and their potential relationship. Methods: Twenty mild dry eye volunteers who had never worn CLs were recruited for long-term CL wearing. Each subject underwent ocular surface evaluations at baseline and at 1, 4, 12, and 24 weeks, including Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) questionnaire, tear film break-up time (TBUT), and Schirmer I test. In vivo confocal microscopy was used to examine the density, area, number of dendrites, total dendritic length of DC, and SBN densities in central and peripheral corneas. Only right eyes were included. Results: The DCs were activated and peaked at week 4 after wearing CLs. The peripheral DC density increased beginning the first week, whereas the central ones increased by week 4. After 4 weeks, both began to decrease, but still higher than baseline at week 24. The central and peripheral SBN densities decreased. However, the peripheral SBN tended to increase beginning at week 12. In early period, SBN was negatively correlated with DC parameters. After 4 weeks, the correlation changed to be positive. The OSDI increased, whereas the Schirmer I test and TBUT showed no significant change. Conclusions: After wearing CLs, corneal DC were activated and increased, indicating ocular surface inflammation and decreased after week 4. In the early period, increases in DC may lead to decreases in SBN. Upon decrease of DC, the SBN may regenerate.

Implementation of hardware TCP/IP stack for DAQ systems with flexible data channel

Traditional solutions for Ethernet transmission of data acquisition systems (DAQ) are mainly based on software transmission control protocol/internet protocol (TCP/IP) stack while its throughput is relatively low and hard to improve. A hardware TCP/IP stack that can greatly promote the Ethernet throughput for generic DAQ is presented. To reduce the memory overhead of FPGA in DAQ, a shared memory method based on parallel and pipeline operations is proposed so that it can realise multiple protocols with just 2 Kb RAM for receiving and sending respectively. Unlike software system, hardware stack is difficult to realise multiple data source transmission simultaneously since it is realised totally by logic circuits. Therefore, a data manage module is designed specially to manage the internal, software and hardware data and it can enhance the flexibility and practicability remarkably. Functional simulation shows that, under 50 MHz system clock, the maximum throughput is near 800 Mbps. A common Megabit Ethernet controller chip is applied in the board test. The results show that the maximum throughput of the whole system is 82.2 Mbps which is much better than designs based on the same or similar network controllers.

A zero-crossing detection method applied to Doppler OCT

We present a numerical method based on the detection of the zero-crossing points in an OCT signal for the measurement of the Doppler frequency in a laminar flow. This method is compared to other processing approaches currently used in Doppler OCT. The results show that in the case of laminar flow the zero-crossing method gives the most precise results, especially in the higher velocity regime.

The Role of Different Tear Volume Detection Methods in the Evaluation and Diagnosis of Mild Dry Eye Disease

Purpose: To compare the diagnostic power of strip meniscometry (SM), Schirmer test (ST), and tear meniscus (TM) in mild dry eye disease (DED) and to evaluate the association with DED-related parameters. Methods: Forty left eyes with mild DED and 40 left eyes of control participants were investigated. All participants underwent a comprehensive ocular surface examination, including the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI), fluorescein tear film break-up time (FTBUT), ocular surface staining grades, meiboscores, and tear film volume examinations, including SM, ST, tear meniscus height (TMH), and tear meniscus cross-sectional area (TMA) measurements, respectively, by optical coherence tomography (OCT) and Keratograph 5M (K5M). The correlation between these parameters was evaluated, and the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to verify the diagnostic power by the area under the curve (AUC). Results: All tear film volume examinations significantly correlated with DED parameters. Among them, the most relevant factor to OSDI scores and FTBUT was SM. In addition, SM (AUC = 0.992), TMH-OCT (AUC = 0.978), and TMA-OCT (AUC = 0.960) showed better diagnostic power than ST (AUC = 0.650) in DED, in which the cutoff value of SM was 3.5 mm (sensitivity, 97.5%; specificity, 95.0%). Conclusions: Compared with ST, SM and TM parameters obtained by OCT were more relevant to ocular surface parameters and can provide a more valuable approach to discriminate mild DED from control participants. Translational Relevance: This study made a comprehensive comparison of the existing tear volume detection methods and provided a basis for the clinical selection of appropriate detection methods and the diagnosis of mild DED.
