Fire‐safe agent integrated with oyster shell and melamine polyphosphate for thermoplastic polyurethane

At present, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) is widely used, but there are still many defects in fire safety, such as burning with heavy smoke and dripping. In this article, OS@MP was synthesized by modifying oyster shell (OS) powder with melamine polyphosphate (MP) and then served as fire‐safe agent for TPU. The fire performance of TPU composites were investigated using microscale combustion colorimeter (MCC), cone calorimeter test (CCT), smoke density test (SDT), and thermogravimetric analysis/Fourier transform infrared (TG‐FTIR) spectrum analysis. The MCC and CCT results revealed that OS@MP could reduce the fire hazards of TPU composites. The peak heat release rate (pHRR) of the sample with 10.0 wt% OS@MP decreased to 170.86 kW/m 2 from 1772.37 kW/m 2 for pure TPU. And, the SDT results showed that OS@MP could significantly reduce the smoke production of TPU composites. The TG‐FTIR also confirmed that the noncombustible gases (including CO 2 , ammonia, and water vapor) produced by OS@MP have played a reinforcing role in TPU composites as well as a char formed on the surface of composites, which could act as a barrier to prevent the heat and air, reinforce the fire safety of TPU.

Preparation and properties of an efficient smoke suppressant and flame‐retardant agent for thermoplastic polyurethane

APP@ETA, as a new type of flame retardant, was prepared by chemically modifying ammonium polyphosphate (APP) with ethanolamine (ETA) and applied to thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) in this study. Then, the smoke suppression properties and flame‐retardant effects of APP@ETA in TPU composites were evaluated using smoke density test, cone calorimeter test, etc. And, the thermal degradation properties of flame‐retardant TPU composites were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis/infrared spectrometry. The smoke density test results indicated that APP@ETA could obviously improve the luminous flux of TPU composites in the test with or without flame. The cone calorimeter test results showed that total smoke release, smoke production rate and smoke factor of the composites with APP@ETA were significantly decreased than those of the composites with APP. For example, when the loading of APP@ETA or APP was 12.5 wt%, the total smoke release of the sample with APP@ETA decreased to 3.5 m 2 /m 2 from 6.0 m 2 /m 2 , which was much lower than that of the sample with APP, reduced by 41.7%. The thermogravimetric analysis results demonstrated that APP@ETA could decrease the initial decomposition temperature and improve the thermal stability at high temperature for TPU composites. Accurate identification and grading of clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa, Gleason Score ≥ 7) without invasive procedures remains a significant clinical challenge. This study aims to develop and evaluate a two-stage model designed for precise Gleason grading. The model initially uses radiomics-based multiparametric MRI to identify csPCa and then refines the Gleason grading by integrating clinical indicators and radiomics features.

Synergistic flame retardant effects of ammonium polyphosphate in ethylene‐vinyl acetate/layered double hydroxides composites

Mg–Al–Fe ternary layered double hydroxides (LDH) were synthesized based on bayer red mud by calcination‐rehydration method, and characterized using X‐ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The synergistic flame retardant effects of ammonium polyphosphate (APP) with LDH in ethylene‐vinyl acetate (EVA) composites were studied using limiting oxygen index (LOI), UL 94 test, cone calorimeter test (CCT), and smoke density test (SDT). The thermal degradation behavior of EVA/LDH/APP composites was examined by thermal gravimetric analysis‐fourier transform infrared spectrometry (TG‐FTIR). The results showed that LOI values decreased by incorporation of APP together with LDH; and, a suitable amount of APP in EVA/LDH composites can apparently improve UL 94 rating. The CCT results indicated that heat release rate (HRR) of the EVA/LDH/APP composites with APP decreased in comparison with that of the EVA/LDH composites. The SDT results showed that APP was helpful to suppress smoke. The TG‐FTIR data showed that the composites with APP had a higher thermal stability than the EVA/LDH composites at high temperature. Influence of nickel citrate in flame retardant thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer composites based on ammonium polyphosphate

In this work, nickel citrate (NC) was combined with ammonium polyphosphate (APP) to improve the flame retardance of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU).And, the influence of nickel citrate on the flame retardance of TPU/APP composites was investigated by cone calorimeter test (CCT), thermogravimetric analysis/infrared spectrometry (TG-IR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC-Ms), and X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS), respectively.It has been found the combination of NC and APP improved the flame retardancy and reduced the total heat release (THR) of TPU composites.The THR value of TPU/APP/NC 0.5 was reduced by 20.7% at 750 s compared with that of TPU/APP.The flame retardancy of TPU composites and the graphitization degree of char residue from TPU composites were improved by the combination of both NC and APP.This work provided a new way to improve the flame retardancy of polymer composites.
