The 3-modular characters of the McLaughlin group McL and its automorphism group McL.2

McLaughlin's sporadic simple group McL was originally constructed (see) as a permutation group on 275 letters. It is a simple group of order 898128000 = 27.36.53.7.11. It is now known to be the pointwise stabilizer of a 2-dimensional sublattice in the Leech lattice. Its maximal subgroups were found by Finkelstein (see). The modular character tables for the relevant primes p = 2, 7 and 11 were found by Thackray. The 5-modular character tables were found by Hiss, Lux and Parker, up to a few ambiguities (see). These ambiguities together with others in the values of the 5- modular characters 560 and 3038 of the automorphism group of McL, denoted by McL.2, were resolved by Suleiman (see). The main purpose of this paper is to complete the 3-modular character table of McL and to find the 3-modular character table of McL.2.

STRONGLY REAL ELEMENTS IN SPORADIC GROUPS AND ALTERNATING GROUPS

We determine the elements in the Sporadic and the Alternating Groups which are strongly real. In the Alternating Groups every real element is strongly real, but this is not true in all Sporadic Groups. Main results for the Alternating groups are given in proposition 6 while the results for the Sporadic Groups are computed manually or by using GAP[5]. The Alternating and the Sporadic Groups in which every element is strongly real are An for (n = 5, 6, 10, 14), and J1 and J2.

The 2-modular characters of Conway's group Co₂

Abstract We use computational methods to find the irreducible 2-modular characters of Conway's second group. Three of these are produced by probabilistic methods, which means that we have very strong evidence that they are correct, but we do not yet have a complete proof.

This paper investigates the topological properties on the structure generated by the addition modulus of the Aunu permutation pattern 𝑤𝑖. The pattern 𝑤𝑖 has the generating function defined as: 𝜔𝑖=(1 (1+𝑖)𝑚𝑜𝑑𝑝 (1+2𝑖)𝑚𝑜𝑑𝑝 (1+3𝑖)𝑚𝑜𝑑𝑝………(1+((𝑝−1)𝑖)𝑚𝑜𝑑𝑝) For 𝑖=1,2,..𝑝−1. The numbers are arrangement on the structure 𝑋={1,….,𝑃} for primes p ≥ 5. It has been established in this paper that the generated set is a topology on 𝑋, it is not a convex set and finally, not a 𝜎-algebra.

Improving Monte-Carlo and Molecular Dynamics Simulation Outcomes Using Temperature-Dependent Interaction Parameters: The Case of Pure LJ Fluid

The main proposition of this work is that introducing temperature-dependent interaction parameters (TDIP) instead of using temperature-independent interaction parameters (TIIP) may lead to improvement in the prediction of phase equilibrium properties such as vapor liquid equilibria, and transport properties e.g., self-diffusivity. Published second virial coefficient data was used to fit a simple two parameter temperature-dependent model for the collision diameter and well depth. This fitting procedure reduces the Root Mean Square Deviation (RMSD) between the experimental and predicted second virial coefficients by tenfold compared to the best TIIP and by 15 fold with the literature values. The vapor–liquid coexistence curve for argon was simulated in the NVT Gibbs ensemble in the temperature range: 110–148 K. The critical temperature and density were determined using the Ising-scaling model. The TDIP simulations produce, in general, a more accurate phase diagram compared to the diagram generated using TIIP. RMSD is reduced by 42.1% using TDIP. Also, there was no significant difference between the results obtained using TDIP and the highly accurate and computationally demanding phase diagrams based on three body contributions implementing Axillrod–Teller correction. Self-diffusivities of atomic argon were evaluated using the mean square displacement or the Einstein method using equilibrium molecular dynamics (MD) at a pressure of 13 bars and a temperature range from 90 K up to 135 K in the isobaric, isothermal NPT ensemble. TDIP, in general, produces more accurate self-diffusivities than the values computed by TIIP simulations. RMSD is reduced by about 64% using the temperature-dependent parameters.

Gau, Wang and Wu in their LAMA'2016 paper conjectured (and proved for $n\leq 4$) that an $n$-by-$n$ partial isometry cannot have a circular numerical range with a non-zero center. We prove that this statement holds also for $n=5$.
