Regulating the Solvation Sheath of Li Ions by Using Hydrogen Bonds for Highly Stable Lithium–Metal Anodes

Abstract The performance of Li anodes is extremely affected by the solvation of Li ions, leading to preferential reduction of the solvation sheath and subsequent formation of fragile solid–electrolyte interphase (SEI), Li dendrites, and low coulombic efficiency (CE). Herein, we propose a novel strategy to regulate the solvation sheath, through the introduction of intermolecular hydrogen bonds with both the anions of Li salt and the solvent by small amount additives. The addition of such hydrogen bonds reduced the LUMO energy level of anions in electrolyte, promoted the formation of a robust SEI, reduced the amount of free solvent molecules, and enhanced stability of electrolytes. Based on this strategy, flat and dense lithium deposition was obtained. Even under lean electrolytes, at a current density of 1 mA cm −2 with a fixed capacity of 3 mAh cm −2 , the Li–Cu cells showed an impressive CE value of 99.2 %. The Li‐LiFePO 4 full cells showed long‐term cycling stability for more than 1000 cycles at 1 C, with a total capacity loss of only 15 mAh g −1 .

Flexible Carbon Nanofibrous Membranes with Adjustable Hierarchical Porous Structure as High‐Capacity Anodes for Sodium‐Ion Batteries

Preparation of porous carbon nanofibrous membranes with excellent flexibilities and high Na ion storage capabilities to satisfy the demand of wearable energy storage devices remains challenging. Herein, a continuous and flexible porous carbon nanofibrous membrane is developed as anode material for sodium‐ion batteries by electrospinning a mixture of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and ultrafine zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF‐8) nanoparticles, followed by carbonization at 1200 °C. The intrinsic porous crystal structure of ZIF‐8 and their decomposition/volatilization at high temperature assist the generation of hierarchical micro‐meso pores that are homogeneously dispersed along the nanofibers, resulting in the good flexibility and excellent Na ion storage performance. Through controlling the ZIF‐8 content at 45%, the flexible anode enables a superior Na storage capacity of 418 mA h g −1 at 0.1 A g −1 with a remarkable plateau capacity of 278 mA h g −1 . The superhigh plateau capacity could be credited to the large amounts of isolated closed micro‐meso pores, implying an adsorption‐filling sodium‐ion storage mechanism. These findings provide some inspiration for the design and construction of advanced porous carbon anode materials for flexible sodium‐ion batteries.

Toward Stable Lithium Plating/Stripping by Successive Desolvation and Exclusive Transport of Li Ions

Li has been regarded as the most attractive anode for next-generation high-energy-density batteries due to its high specific capacity and low electrochemical potential. However, its low electrochemical potential leads to the side reaction of Li with the solvent of the electrolyte (the solvation of Li ions exacerbates the reaction). This adverse side reaction results in uneven Li distribution and deposition, low Coulombic efficiency, and the formation of Li dendrites. Herein, we demonstrate an efficient method for achieving successive desolvation and homogeneous distribution of Li ions by using a double-layer membrane. The first layer is designed to enable the desolvation of Li ions. The second layer with controllable and ordered nanopores is expected to facilitate the homogeneous and exclusive transport of Li ions. The efficiency of the double-layer membrane on desolvation and exclusive transport of Li ions is confirmed by theoretical calculations, the significantly enhanced Li-ion transference number, improved Coulombic efficiency, and the inhibition of Li dendrites. These results will deepen our understanding of the modulation of ions and pave a way to the next-generation high-energy-density Li-metal batteries.

Finite element analysis for the measurement error of electrostatic accelerometer due to the electrode misalignment

Abstract The electrostatic accelerometer is the key payload of many space missions, such as satellite gravity measurements, space gravitational experiments, with a typical precision requirement from nano-g to femto-g. The measurement error model analysis is an important issue for the electrostatic accelerometer with numerous error sources. The traditional method by theoretical analysis is complicated to evaluate the complete measurement error models quantitatively especially when the machining and assembly errors of the sensor head are considered. Limited by the earth gravity and seismic noise which is much higher than the intrinsic noise, the complete error model of electrostatic accelerometers can also hardly be tested on ground. In this paper, the method by using finite element analysis of the sensor head is studied. The simulation model for an electrostatic accelerometer sensor head is built, and the multi-conductor capacitance matrix data is simulated. The accuracy of the capacitance simulation is evaluated in three ways including the convergence check of the capacitance with the mesh size, the symmetry verification, and the sensitivity comparison with the theoretical model. Finally, the accelerometer measurement model is analyzed based on the simulation data, using the case of rotating installation misalignment of the upper electrode as an example. The measurement model and error items of one horizontal axis and one rotating axis are quantitatively evaluated. The method proposed in this paper provide a new effective approach to the measurement model analysis of the electrostatic accelerometers in complex working scenarios both in orbit and on ground, which could be helpful to enhance the performance and the efficiency of application.
