Abstract Several quinoxaline, benzimidazole, and alkoxybenzene derivatives containing the novoldiamine function, either as a side chain or incorporated as a ring constituent, were synthesized as potential causal prophylactic antimalarial agents. 1‐(5‐Dimethylamino‐2‐pentyl)‐5‐methoxy‐benzimidazole ( 2a ) was shown to have the desired prophylactic activity in the preliminary sporozoitc‐indueed Plasmodium gallinaceum test.
We observe and study a special ground state of bosons with two spin states in an optical lattice: the spin-Mott insulator, a state that consists of repulsively bound pairs which is insulating for both spin and charge transport.Because of the pairing gap created by the interaction anisotropy, it can be prepared with low entropy and can serve as a starting point for adiabatic state preparation. We find that the stability of the spin-Mott state depends on the pairing energy, and observe two qualitatively different decay regimes, one of which exhibits protection by the gap.
A survey of the ichthyoplankton inhabiting the waters adjacent to the proposed Perryman power plant site on the Bush River was conducted from 31 March to 13 September 1984. The results of the spring 1984 sampling showed that yellow perch (Perca flavescens) larvae were often abundant, reaching densities as high as 2,920/100 cu m. Comparison of the data with that from other ichthyoplankton surveys conducted in the Bush River suggests that the number of yellow perch larvae varied greatly among years. Abundance of white perch and clupeids varied less among years. Sampling of nearshore-shallow and deeper channel habitats revealed significant spatial differences in abundances of certain species.
