[Evaluation of the capacity of the thymus to accumulate testosterone and of the nature of its interaction with the thymocytes].

It was found out that thymus accumulated 3H-testosterone from blood at the same degree as liver, prostate and skeletal muscle. However, hormone was quickly eliminated from the thymus and prostate accumulated it. Thymocytes bound about 5% of testosterone accumulated by the organ. The dependence of binding of 3H-testosterone by thymocytes in vitro and the absence of competition between labelled and unlabelled forms of hormone were revealed. The results obtained make it possible to conclude that thymocytes lack the systems of specific binding of androgen.

[Thymolytic effects of methandrostenolone].

It was shown, that in castrated rats dianabol (10 mg/kg of body mass daily for 7 days) inhibits the protein synthesis in thymus. The binding analysis of 3H-dianabol showed the specific binding sites in thymic cytosol, which are identical to those for androgens. Isolated thymocytes didn't bind dianabol.

Dynamics of the immune status of patients with postoperative peritonitis during treatment by the open method

The values of cellular and humoral immunity were studied in 53 patients with postoperative peritonitis during open treatment and after closure of the abdominal cavity. Analysis of the results showed that postoperative peritonitis is attended by marked depression of cellular and humoral immunity, and by suppression of functional activity of mononuclear phagocytes. When the open method is applied in conjunction with specific combined and nonspecific immunotherapy restoration of cellular immunity begins on the 5th-7th day after relaparotomy and restoration of humoral immunity on the 3rd-4th day. In successful treatment the immune status is normalized on the 8th-10th day. In unfavourable outcomes depression of cellular and humoral immunity increases continuously and death occurs.
