AbstractA new organic nonlinear optical single crystal, 1,4-diamino-2,5-dichlorobenzenium picrate (DADCBP) has been successfully grown by solvent slow evaporation method. DADCBP crystallizes in a triclinic structure with the centrosymmetric space setup, P-1. The molecular structure of the grown crystal has been determined by NMR spectral analysis. The existence of discrete functional branches of the crystal has been identified by FTIR spectral study. The optical property of the title crystal has been measured by UV-Vis-NIR spectral analysis. PL spectra reveal the emission bands of the grown crystal. The thermal stability of the harvested crystal has been examined by the TG/DTA study. The dielectric constant and loss have been taken to locate the arrangement of charges in the grown crystal. The quantum chemical studies have been performed to analyze the HOMO/LUMO, molecular geometry, and mulliken atomic charge by B3LYP at the 6-311++G (d,p) level of theory. H···H, O···H, C···H, C···C various intermolecular interactions of hydrogen bonds in the DADCBP molecule have been visualized by the Hirshfeld surface analysis. The nonlinear optical (NLO) characteristics like nonlinear absorption coefficient (β), nonlinear refractive index (n2) and susceptibility (χ(3)) have been examined using the Z-scan technique.Keywords: Crystal structureNMRdensity functional theorydielectricsHirshfeld surface analysisnonlinear optics Disclosure statementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).

A Quintuple-Layered Binary Chalcogenide Sb₂Te₃ Single Crystal and Its Transport Properties for Thermoelectric Applications

The binary chalcogenide material Sb2Te3 was synthesized via the melting technique. The synthesized materials were converted to a single crystal through the Bridgman-Stockbarger technique. The phase purity and structural properties of the grown crystal were analyzed using powder X-ray diffraction and single-crystal X-ray diffraction measurements. X-ray photoemission spectroscopy reveals the local intermolecular bonding, changes in the stoichiometry, and the oxidation states of the elements present in the crystal. Transport properties like electrical resistivity, Seebeck coefficient, and thermal conductivity were measured. The power factor and figure of merit (ZT) of the grown crystal were calculated.

Chalcogenides are basically one chalcogen anion with a more electropositive cation. Selenium, Tellurium and Sulfur based chalcogenides are used widely with a variety of applications. Chalcogenides are known as an IR transmission and high reflective index, with a wide range of applications in catalyst technologies and sensing devices. It is possible to make chalcogenides in various forms like nanocrystals, thin films and bulk crystals based on the requirement. Chalcogenides are categorized as binary (2°), ternary (3°), quaternary (4°), and penternary (5°) based on their structural differences. These compounds have a high degree of versatility for modifying the bandgap without the use of hazardous components. The structural and chemical property analysis will help us to tailor the chalcogenides-based material for the suitable application and reveal the science behind this important class of materials. The diverse size synthesis of chalcogenides, encompassing nano, micro, and macro scales, is crucial for tailoring their properties to meet specific applications, ranging from nanoscale innovations in quantum dots for advanced electronics to microscale developments in thin-film solar cells for efficient photovoltaics, and macroscale applications in solid-state memory devices and radiation detectors, showcasing the versatile impact of size-tailored chalcogenides across a spectrum of technologies.

Evaluation of Linear and Nonlinear Optical Properties of D−π–A Type 2-Amino-5-Nitropyridinium Dihydrogen Phosphate (2A5NPDP) Single Crystal Grown by the Modified Sankaranarayanan–Ramasamy (SR) Method for Terahertz Generation

We report the growth process and linear and nonlinear optical characterization of high quality improvised semiorganic 2A5NPDP single crystal using the modified SR method for the first time. The major difficulties for the growth of 2A5NPDP single crystal have been resolved with the aid of a temperature lowering method. After optimization of the growth conditions, a transparent 2A5NPDP single crystal was harvested with a size of 85 mm length and 10 mm diameter over a period of 60 days. The growth rate of the modified SR method grown crystal was found to be 10 times higher than that of the conventional slow evaporation solution technique (SEST) grown crystal. The unit cell parameters of the grown crystal were ascertained by the single crystal X-ray diffraction (SXRD) and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) techniques. The high crystalline perfection of the crystal was ascertained by using a high-resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD) technique. The presence of multifarious functional groups of the 2A5NPDP crystal were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and Fourier transform Raman (FT-Raman) spectral analyses. The thermal property was assessed by the thermogravimetric (TG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). It shows that the grown crystal withstands temperature up to 175 °C. UV–vis–NIR analysis was used to measure the linear optical property while third-order nonlinear optical properties were ascertained using Z-scan and optical limiting (OL) techniques. The optical limiting threshold of conventional method grown crystal is 5.7 mW/cm2, whereas the modified SR method grown crystal is 4.7 mW/cm2. Low value of limiting threshold indicates that the grown crystal has minimum defects. Finally, 800 nm wavelength of 140 fs at 80 MHz repetition rate obtained from a Ti:sapphire oscillator was used for the terahertz (THz) generation between 0.1 and 2.1 THz range. The efficiency of the generated THz signal was measured using another 800 nm wavelength of 40 fs, at 1 kHz repetition rate obtained from a Ti:sapphire amplifier. The generated THz signal is separated out from unconverted 800 nm using Teflon filters, and power is measured using a pyrometer. The maximum conversion efficiency of generated THz signal is on the order of 0.63 × 10–5%.

Abstract 2-amino-5-nitropyridine 4-chlorobenzoic acid (1:1) (2A5NP4CBA), a potentially useful organic adduct compound has been synthesized and grown as optically transparent single crystals by conventional slow evaporation solution technique (SEST) for the first time in the literature. The formation of the new crystalline material was confirmed by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SXRD) analysis and the crystal structure of the grown crystal was found to be monoclinic. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrum has been recorded by the KBr pellet technique to determine the various vibrational functional groups in the title material. The powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and high-resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD) analyses have been carried out and the obtained results reveal that the grown crystal has a single-phase and is free from structural grain boundaries. The obtained less value (32 arc-s) of full width at half maximum (FWHM) for (001) plane indicates the excellent crystalline quality of the title 2A5NP4CBA single crystal. The linear optical properties were evaluated by the UV-vis-NIR absorption and transmittance analyses and the obtained results reveal that the grown crystal possesses more than 70% of optical transmittance window with the cut-off edge at 419 nm. The thermal analysis discloses that the grown crystal possesses good thermal stability of about 187°C. To determine the appropriateness of the grown crystal for the high-power laser application, laser damage threshold (LDT) analysis has been carried out by Nd: YAG laser of a wavelength of 1064 nm. The third-order nonlinear optical coefficients such as nonlinear absorption (β), nonlinear refraction (n 2 ) and nonlinear susceptibility (χ (3) ) have been evaluated by utilizing the single beam Z-scan technique using a solid-state laser of wavelength 532 nm. The calculated ꭓ (3) value is found to be reasonably good compared to other organic single crystals which are reported in the literature. The optical limiting (OL) behavior of the title crystal was evaluated using a solid-state laser at 532 nm and the limiting threshold was found to be 7.8 mW/cm 2 .
