Effects of Soil and Water Conservation on Surface Water Resource on the Loess Plateau

In recent 10 years,the effects of soil and water conservation on surface water resource were paid more attention on the Loess Plateau.The author analyzed hydrological effects of principal soil and water conservation measures,including forest and grass,basic farmland and channel engineering measures,and impacts of these measures on surface water resources.In 2050,it is estimated that after soil and water conservation planning is completely implemented on the Loess Plateau,sediment yield in the Yellow River will reduced by 0.7～0.8 billion tons,runoff volume will decreased by 6 billion cubic meters.

Study on Eco-Economy Zoning of the Loess Plateau

The ecological environment of the Loess Plateau exists obvious regional differences.How to develop the eco-economy of agriculture,forestry and animal husbandry that adapts to the environment in the light of the characteristics of natural ecological environment of the region is the purpose of eco-economic zoning.The principles of eco-economic zoning are zonality,non-zonality and socioeconomic.It plans to divide eco-economic zone of the Loess Plateau into two-grade sub-zones of grade I: eco-economic area and grade II: eco-economic zone according to different conditions.According to the characteristics of similarity and difference of regional ecological environment,it divides the Loess Plateau into 4 grade I eco-economic areas,i.e.semi-humid deciduous broadleaf trees of warm temperate zone(I);semi-humid and semi-arid forest steppe of warm temperate zone(II);semi-arid steppe of temperate zone(III) and;arid steppe and desert steppe of temperate zone(IV).Each grade I area is also divided into 42 grade II eco-economic zones according to the difference of geomorphology.

A Study on Soil Erosion Environment in the"Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Interlock Zone" of the Middle and Upper Yellow River

The soil erosion environment in the agriculture and animal husbandry interlock zone of the middle and upper Yellow River formed in the geological period and develops in the mankind historical period. There is obvious difference in space for the modern erosion environment. Characteristics of factors in the erosion environment are as follows: ① For precipitation, there are inter annual fluctuation and inner annual concentration in time and non even distribution in space; ② Loose composition materials of the earth surface are characterized by a sort of sandy materials; ③ Simple vegetation type with low coverage is dominated by herb. Sediment yield caused by interaction among the factors in the erosion environment has the following characteristics: ① Complex erosion types; ② Multiplex sediment sources; ③ Non even distribution in space and inter annual fluctuation and concentration in time. At last, it is pointed out in this paper that it is difficult to change eco environmental properties of the agriculture and animal husbandry interlock zone, but it is possible to restrain erosion and restore the environment by adjusting relationship between man and the earth through returning crop plots to forestry and grassland, adjusting land use structure and industry structure.

The problems of low effective control and slow improvement of total ecological environment are existed in the prevention and control of soil and water loss in the Loess Plateau. In order to effectively prevent and control soil and water loss of that area, we should well conduct capital construction on farmland of dam system, select kinds of trees depending on precipitation and natural rehabilitation and take a way of combination of comprehensive management and industrial development by taking a small watershed as a management unit. The appropriate countermeasures are as follows: To establish and amplify decision-making agencies for comprehensive management, to work out a scientific and unified plan of soil and water conservation, to expand financing channels and to establish a monitoring system of laws and regulations.

Ratio Producing Runoff and Sediment from More Sediment and Coarse Sediment Region Occupying Total Runoff and Sediment in the Middle Reaches of Yellow River

Based on analyzing natural environment characteristics of different producing runoff and producing sediment regions in the Yellow River basin,principles and indexes of determining more sediment and coarse sediment region have been mainly discussed and area of more sediment and coarse sediment region is calculated.It is to research coupling relations among different producing runoff and sediment regions in the Yellow River basin and runoff and sediment in the middle reaches of the Yellow River.Ratio that producing runoff volume and sediment delivery occupy total runoff and sediment in the four stations(Huaxian,Zhuangtou,Longmen and Hejin)are calculated,they are that producing annual runoff volume and sediment delivery occupy total runoff and sediment in four stations of the Yellow River 12.9% and 63.4% respectively,in which 87% of coarse sediment in the four stations comes from the more sediment and coarse sediment region.Controlling more sediment and coarse sediment region is a key for reducing sediment of four stations.It is estimated that controlling 10 000 km 2 more sediment and coarse sediment region can reduce 8% of total sediment and 10% coarse sediment respectively.

Experiential Lesson and Perspective of Vegetation Construction on the Loess Plateau

Based on outlining experiential lesson of vegetation construction on the Loess Plateau,fundamental principles and comments of accelerating vegetation construction on the Loess Plateau are proposed.It is estimated in the future that forest vegetation cover in the forest zone could reach 30%,in the forest-grass zone,forest vegetation cover could be less than 20% and shrub and grass cover reaches above 50%, in the grass zone, vegetation cover could be less than 50%.
