Abstract Background Rosa alba L. belongs to the family Rosaceae. This species is widely cultivated in Europe, Asia, North America, and Northwest Africa due to its fragrance, ornamental, and medicinal values. It is commonly known as white oil-bearing rose, white rose, white rose of York, backyard rose, and sufaid gulab. Main text Rosa alba L. has many biological properties like antioxidant, antimicrobial, antifungal, antifertility, teratogenic, memory enhancing, cytotoxic, and genotoxic activities. The essential oil of Rosa alba L. possesses good antimicrobial activity and consists of many chemical constituents like- citronellol, geraniol, nerol, linalool, citral, carvacrol, eugenol, etc. Conclusion This article briefly reviews the cultivation, traditional uses, phytochemistry, and biological activities of Rosa alba L. Many research papers have been published on the proposed plant and still, there is a very vast scope of research on it. Therefore, this review will be very fruitful for those scientists who are doing or plan to do research work on this plant. All the scientific findings written in this review are explored from Google web, Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Abstracts (MAPA), and SciFinder. To date, it is the first systematic review article of such kind, on this plant.

Structural Insights into the Molecular Design of HER2 Inhibitors

Background: The present study was aimed at designing some potential candidates as HER2 inhibitors used in breast cancer. Methods: An energy optimized pharmacophore (E-pharmacophore) model was developed and used to screen the molecular databases (such as ASINEX and NCI databases) against a six site (ADHRRR) hypothesis. The shape similarity of the retrieved hits was calculated and then filtered applying ADME and Lipinski’s filters. Further, these hits were docked into the crystal structure of HER2 protein (3W32) using Glide XP protocol to obtain the docking poses and XP gscores. The performance of the virtual screening (VS) methods was evaluated using Schrödinger’s decoy set of 1000 molecules. Ranking of the actives in the VS protocol was assessed by a variety of well-established methods including the average rank of actives, EF, ROC, BEDROC, AUAC, and the RIE. The retrieved hits were submitted to Canvas for generating binary fingerprints (dendritic) to identify structural diversity among the hits and clustered on the basis of Tanimoto coefficient using hierarchical clustering. Results: Seven structurally diverse clusters were selected applying above protocol, having XP gscores >-10, and fitness scores > 1, considering top scoring cluster representative from each cluster. The best scoring hit 355682-ASINEX was submitted to Combiglide to discover some better candidates with improved scores. Finally, structural interaction fingerprint (SIFT) analysis was employed to study the binding interaction, which showed H-bond interaction with Met793, Gln791 and Thr854 residues of HER2 protein. Conclusion: The applied methodology and the retrieved hits could be useful in the design of potent inhibitors of HER2 proteins, commonly found to be expressed in the breast cancer patients.

In the present review, the research progress of the plant Pedalium murex Linn. has been rationalized in the diverse aspects of studies like its cytomorphology, traditional uses, pharmacognostic studies, and phytochemical studies, biological studies, etc. In the modern era, the consumption of herbal medicines has amplified greatly due to their effective results. Therefore, it is essential to develop herbal medicine like more effective drugs with fewer side effects and determine their efficacy. Pedalium murex is one of the traditional medicinal plants that belong to the family, Pedaliaceae, a magical source of many bioactive compounds like terpenoids, lipids, phenolic acids, steroids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, vitamins, carbohydrates, reducing sugars, proteins, etc. with a variety of biological activities viz. antioxidant, antihyperlipidemic, neuroprotective, nephroprotective, anti-nephrolithiasis, aphrodisiac, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, antimicrobial antiproliferative, insecticidal, hepatoprotective, antidiabetic, etc. It is widely distributed in tropical Africa, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, and Mexico. In this review, all the scientific findings of Pedalium murex are explored from Google Scholar, Google web, Science Direct, Pubmed, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Abstracts (MAPA), etc. This review will be very fruitful for those scientists who are doing or planning to do research work on this plant.

R. ARBOREUM FLOWER AND LEAF EXTRACTS: RP-HPTLC SCREENING, ISOLATION, CHARACTERIZATION AND BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY

In the present study, preliminary i n-vitro anticancer screening of the alcoholic extracts of leaves (LE) and flowers (FE) of Rhododendron arboreum was performed against Crown Gall tumor and MCF-7 breast cancer cell lines. Both the extracts showed prominent inhibition in the development of Crown Gall tumor in potato discs while only LE was found to be significantly effective against MCF-7. Three terpenoids ( 1-3) , one sterol (4) and two flavonoids (5-6) were isolated from the LE of the Rhododendron arboreum . The flavonoidal compounds, quercetin and rutin were simultaneously identified from the flowers and leaves using high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC). Precoated silica-gel RP-18 F 254 S plates were used with a mobile phase of methanol: water: formic acid (55: 42: 03 v/v/v) and densitometric determination of these compounds were carried out at 254 nm in absorbance mode. Structures of all the isolated compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic methods like IR, PMR, CMR and Mass spectrometry.

Novel 4-Thiazolidinone Derivatives as Anti-Infective Agents: Synthesis, Characterization, and Antimicrobial Evaluation

A series of new 4-thiazolidinone derivatives was synthesized, characterized by spectral techniques, and screened for antimicrobial activity. All the compounds were evaluated against five Gram-positive bacteria, two Gram-negative bacteria, and two fungi, at concentrations of 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1600 µg/mL, respectively. Minimum inhibitory concentrations of all the compounds were also determined and were found to be in the range of 100-400 µg/mL. All the compounds showed moderate-to-good antimicrobial activity. Compounds 4a [2-(4-fluoro-phenyl)-3-(4-methyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-quinazolin-2-yl)-thiazolidin-4-one] and 4e [3-(4,6-dimethyl-pyrimidin-2-yl)-2-(2-methoxy-phenyl)-thiazolidin-4-one] were the most potent compounds of the series, exhibiting marked antimicrobial activity against Pseudomonas fluorescens, Staphylococcus aureus, and the fungal strains. Thus, on the basis of results obtained, it may be concluded that synthesized compounds exhibit a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity.
