The design of cheaper automobile models with a reduced thickness of window glass is one of the leading trends in automobile manufacture (i). In this connection, the development of new Triplex glasses, in particular those which are thinner and asymmetrical in thickness (2) and the study of their strength properties has become vitally important. gram of the tests is shown in Fig. i. This particular method takes into account the lami' nated structure of the Triplex and the elasto-elastic properties of the adhesive layer and makes it possible to use the experimental values obtained for the destructive force to determine the magnitude and sign of the stresses at the moment of destruction in each layer of Triplex. We studied four Triplex composites based on thermally polished glass (TPG) of thickness 2.2 or 1.6 mm and Soviet-made polyvinylbutyrol (PVB) adhesive film called Butvel: two comprised glass of identical thickness, henceforth called 2.2/2.2 and 1.6/1.6 and two were asymmetrical in thickness, called 2.2/1.6 and 16./2.2 (the first figure denotes the upper layer of glass and the second the lower in the Triplex in the bend tests). For comparison we calculated in addition the stresses in Triplex composites based on glasses of thickness 3 and 2 mm 3.0/3.0; 3.0/20.; 2.0/3.0; and 2.0/2.0. The Sn surface of the TPG (in contact with the Sn melt during production) faced inwards when the unit was assembled. The pressing was carried out in an air autoclave at a pressure of 1.2 MPa, a temperature of 145~ and a duration of 40 min. The Triplex plates thus obtained were cut up into the test specimens measuring 150 x 50 mm which were then loaded using an R-05 breaking machine until the first cracks appears (scale A; each division, 0.2 kgf) at a rate of movement of the mobile traverse of 25 mm/min. The stress on the surface of each layer of glass in the Triplex was calculated using the formulae in [3] transformed in the form:
