2-Bromo-6-chloro-3(2H)-benzofuranone is an intermediate of pesticides with condensed heterocyclic structure. Using 4-chloro salicylic acid as starting material, through novel method, via esterification, etherification, hydrolysis, cyclization, bromination to give the product. The total yield of the title product is 19%. The structure of the product is confirmed by MS and 1H NMR.
