Clinicopathological Effects of Cadmium and Spirulina platensis in Chickens

One hundred chickens of 1-day age were divided randomly into five groups of 20 birds each. Group I was kept as control, group II was fed with 0.2% Spirulina platensis powder only till 90th day post-treatment (DPT). Group III was administered 1.6-ppm cadmium. Groups IV and V were administered 1.61-ppm cadmium in triple glass distilled water along with S. platensis powder orally in standard recommended feed at the rate of 0.2% concentration. However, in group V, S. platensis powder was given after 60th DPT till 90th DPT. Three chickens from each group were sacrificed at 15th, 30th, 45th, 60th, 75th and 90th DPT for pathological studies. Histopathological lesions, in liver and kidneys, observed in groups III and V, comprised vascular, degenerative and inflammatory in nature. In lungs, congestion of blood vessels and air capillaries, haemorrhage in lung parenchyma, and infiltration of mononuclear cells observed. Heart showed mild congestion of blood vessels, oedema of cardiac muscles, fragmentation and vacuolation. In brain, vascular, degenerative and inflammatory changes were observed. Intestine showed infiltration of mononuclear cells in mucosal and sub-mucosal layers, mucosal haemorrhage, distortion, sloughing and fusion of villi along with mild glandular hypertrophy. Testes revealed distortion of seminiferous tubules and sloughing of germinal epithelium from basement membrane. Spleen showed mild congestion, oedema and mild depletion of lymphoid cells. Thymus and bursa of Fabricius revealed mild depletion of lymphocytes.

A Review on Diagnosis of Brucellosis

Brucellosis is one of the most important infectious diseases affecting a range of animals including marine animals and humans. Confirmatory diagnosis of the disease does not rely on a single test but involves battery of tests. The choice of the test also depends upon the area and purpose of the study. This review discusses the range of conventional methods and newer trends in the Brucella diagnostics of animals and humans.

MTA versus Biodentine: Review of Literature with a Comparative Analysis

An ideal dental repair material should possess certain exclusive properties such as adequate adhesive ability, insolubility, dimensional stability, biocompatibility, bioactivity etc. New materials claiming better performance are continuously being introduced in the market to optimize the care of dental patients. Biodentine has been recently introduced as the "the first all-in-one, bioactive and biocompatible material for damaged dentin replacement". Manufacturers claim that Biodentine has noticeably shorter setting time in contrast to other silicate cements such as Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA) and also has better mechanical and handling properties. This article is aimed to compare the properties of MTA and Biodentine analyzing the research work done in this field so far by various researchers all across the globe.

Comparative evaluation of anti-stress potential of some herbal agents in heat stressed broilers

The present study was conducted to know the pathological changes in heat stressed broilers supplemented with various herbal agents in the diet. Pathological changes, both gross and histopathological observed in liver, lung, kidney, heart, bursa of Fabricius, spleen and breast muscles in birds of various groups were mainly vascular in nature i.e. congestion and hemorrhages, depletion of lymphoid cells in bursa and edema, fragmentation of muscles of heart and breast. It was concluded from the present study and our earlier studies that Stresroak has the highest anti stress potential in heat stressed broilers.

Effect of Withania somnifera Root Powder on Biochemical Parameters in Lead Treated Chickens

One hundred and fifty day old broiler chicks were d ivided into five groups of 30 birds each. Group I was kept as contro l. Groups II and III were administered 250 ppm and 400 ppm lead as lead acetate in triple glass distilled water, respectively. Groups IV and V were administered 250 ppm and 400 ppm lead in triple glass distilled water al ong with Withania somnifera root powder (WSRP) in standard recommended feed at the rate of 1% concentration from 2 weeks of age till 60 day s post treatment (DPT). Various biochemical parameters viz. total serum pro tein, serum albumin, serum globulin, creatinine, uric acid, serum alanin e aminotransferase and serum aspartate aminotransferase were determined by using spectrophotometer. In treated groups II and III, se rum biochemical results revealed a significant (P<0.05) decrease in total s erum protein, albumin and globulin but significant (P<0.05) increase in creat inine and uric acid recorded as compared to group I. There was signific ant lesser decrease in total protein, albumin and globulin and significant lesser increase in serum creatinine and uric acid in groups IV and V as comp ared to groups II and III, respectively. In groups II and III, there was a significant (P<0.05) increase in alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspa rtate aminotransferase (AST) levels as compared to group I, whereas in gro ups IV and V, these enzymes were significantly lesser as compared to gr oups II and III, respectively. These results suggested the adverse e ffect of lead on biochemical parameters and showed that WSRP treatment significantly ameliorate the effect of lead administration at 200 ppm and 400 ppm on these biochemical parameters in chickens.

Effects of gamma benzene hexachloride and quinalphos on serum calcium and phosphorous levels in experimentally fed broiler chickens

To study the effects of pesticides namely gamma-benzene hexachloride (a-BHC) and quinalphos in chickens, 120, aged 1 week were randomly divided into 3 groups of 40 birds each. Group I birds served as control while group II and III birds were administered a-BHC (6.5%) and quinalphos (25% EC) respectively in feed for 8 weeks. There serum was used to estimate calcium and phosphorous.. In group II the calcium and phosphorous values were significantly reduced as compared to control group. Similarly, in group III, the calcium and phosphorous values were significantly less than the corresponding values in birds of group I, II. Present study indicate that the multiple low doses of a-BHC and quinalphos lowers the serum calcium and phosphorous levels.
