Sustainable Production of Self Compacting Concrete by using Fly Ash and Granite Waste

The development of sustainable concrete has gained plenty of awareness in recent years. Researchers have conducted many experimental investigations for the manufacture of different forms of concrete by using numerous low carbon footprint materials, such as granite waste and fly ash. The using of low carbon footprint materials in construction industry will minimize the exploitation of natural raw materials and promote sustainability in construction industry. This research thus aimed to investigate the influence of granite waste (GW) and fly ash on the production of self-compacting concrete (SCC). The preliminary investigation was carried out for finding the maximum adding percentage of GW and fly ash in the successful production of SCC. The GW was used in the proportion of 10,20 and 30% as an alternative to fine aggregate (i.e. sand) by weight, while, fly ash was substituted with cement in the proportion of 10,20 and 30% by weight. The fresh characteristics (slump flow, V-funnel, and L-box), mechanical characteristics (compressive strength) were evaluated. The findings revealed that the combined use of GW (up to 30%) and fly ash (up to 30%) in SCC has the potential to considerably enhance the fresh and water absorption properties (without adversely affecting strength characteristics

EVOLUTION AND OPTIMIZATION OF MUSTARD CULTIVATION IN HARYANA: A COMPREHENSIVE STUDY

Haryana, located in northern India, cultivates a diverse range of crops due to its fertile soil, favorable climate, and well-developed irrigation infrastructure. This research paper presents a comprehensive analysis of mustard cultivation in Haryana, India, from 1966 to 2021, examining the trends in area under cultivation, production output, and yield efficiency. Utilizing historical data, the study identifies significant growth patterns, evaluates the impact of agricultural practices, and explores the role of technological advancements and policy interventions in shaping the mustard cultivation landscape in the region. By analyzing district-level variations, the paper sheds light on the heterogeneous nature of agricultural development across Haryana. The research employs statistical methods to forecast future trends and offers recommendations for sustainable cultivation practices to enhance productivity, profitability, and environmental sustainability in mustard farming.

BIOREACTORS: VESSELS FOR BIOCHEMICAL PRODUCTION AND BEYOND

Bioreactors are containers or tanks that use entire cells or cell-free enzymes to convert input materials into biochemical products and/or less unwanted chemicals. Bioreactors are a crucial part of bioprocess. According to the demands of the production, bioreactors can be customized and designed in a way to be most cost-effective, easy to use and give high production rates. Parts of bioreactors like impellers, sparger, cooling jacket, temperature control, oxygen control, foam control, pH control and others are briefly discussed. Applications of bioreactors include wastewater treatment, biodiesel production, pharmaceuticals, food industries, brewing industries and others. This chapter covers bioreactors, one of the key components of upstream processing. It includes categorization of bioreactors based on their modes of operation (batch, fed-batch, continuous), components of fundamental bioreactors, varieties of bioreactors, benefits, drawbacks, and uses. Growth pattern and biofuel production potential of newly isolated microalga,Chlorococcumsp. IM-03 under nitrogen limited conditions

BACKGROUND The quality and quantity of lipids in microalgae mainly depend on nitrogen and phosphorous supply. In the present study, growth of newly isolated microalgal strain, Chlorococcum sp. IM-03 has been studied under nitrogen stressed conditions. Fluorescence microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy have been used to observe changes in lipid and carbohydrate content. RESULTS Growth of selected species is monitored in terms of dry biomass and chlorophyll content under varying sodium nitrate concentration, viz. 0, 100 and 1500 mg L−1 (designated as N0, N100 and N1500, respectively). N100 was selected in the experimental plan as similar levels were observed in domestic wastewater, which can be used as possible culture media for mass cultivation. Maximum chlorophyll concentration (72.65 µg mg−1) was found at N100. It was also observed that cultivation at N100 resulted in highest lipid content of 17.8%. Carbohydrate content was 18% at N100 with moderate increase to 19.8% at N1500. CONCLUSIONS On the basis of the current study, it can be concluded that sodium nitrate concentration of 100 mg L−1 (N100) offers enhanced production of lipids in Chlorococcum sp. without compromising growth. © 2015 Society of Chemical Industry
