Nd 1− x Ca x CrO 3 (0≤ x ≤0.25) solid solutions are synthesized using a two‐step calcination solid‐state reaction method and can potentially be used as interconnect applications in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). The lattice parameters and unit cell volume decrease with an increase of the Ca 2+ dopant concentration at the A‐site. On the other hand, the relative density, electrical conductivity, and thermal expansion coefficient (TEC) increase with an increase of Ca 2+ contents. Calcium doping significantly depresses the chromium vaporization of NdCrO 3 , thus accelerating the sintering and densification of the oxides. Nd 1− x Ca x CrO 3 with x =0.25 shows the best electrical conductivity of 28.8 and 1.1 S/cm at 850°C in air and hydrogen, respectively, with a high relative density of 98.0% and a good TEC of 9.19 × 10 −6 K −1 in the temperature range from 30° to 1000°C in air. This indicates that Nd 0.75 Ca 0.25 CrO 3 is a promising candidate as an interconnect material for application in SOFCs.

Layered Perovskite GdBaCuCoO[sub 5+δ] Cathode Material for Intermediate-Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cells

Layered perovskite oxide (GBCC) was investigated as a cathode material for intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFCs). The GBCC cathode was chemically compatible with the electrolytes (LSGM) and (SDC) at temperatures below . Compared with (LBCC) cathode, the electrical conductivity behaviors of GBCC and LBCC were quite distinct from each other in the studied temperature range due to the different electronic configurations of the rare-earth cations. The GBCC sample exhibited a semiconductor-like behavior. For the LBCC sample, however, there was a transition of the electrical conductivity behavior from semiconductor-like to metal-like for temperatures higher than . The thermal expansion coefficient of samples significantly decreased from for LBCC to for GBCC in the temperature range of , although the area specific resistance (ASR) increased. The ASRs of the GBCC cathode on the LSGM and SDC electrolytes were 0.091 and at , respectively. At , the power densities of a single cell were 545 and for the LSGM and SDC electrolytes, respectively, making it a promising candidate as a cathode material for IT-SOFCs.

Electrical properties and applications of (ZrO2)(0.92)(Y2O3)(0.08) electrolyte thin wall tubes prepared by improved slip casting method

8%(mole fraction) yttria-stabilized zirconia electrolyte thin wall tubes were prepared by improved slip casting method. The length and wall thickness of the tubes are 266 mm and 0.4 similar to 0.9 mm, respectively and the relative density is 96.7%. The microstructure and electrical properties of samples sintered at different temperatures were studied using SEM and ac impedance spectroscopy. The effect of sintered density, grain and grain boundary on the electrical properties of the samples was analyzed. The research results show that the density of the samples increases gradually with increasing sintering temperatures. The microstructure of samples strongly influences its electrical properties, and the electrical properties of samples enhance with the increase of sintered density. The ionic conductivity of grain and grain boundary is increased as the sintering temperature increases. Better sinterability of the samples was obtained at the sintering temperature of 1650 degreesC. The maximum open circuit voltage and short circuit current for single cell is 0.946 V and 1.84 A, respectively. The maximum output power of single cell is 0.46 W at the temperature of 850 degreesC.
