Heavy oil upgrading using an integrated gasification process

The value of abundant, low-grade heavy crude oil reserves can be enhanced by appropriate upgrade processing at the production site to yield marketable refinery feedstocks or ultimate products. One of the upgrading process sequences most commonly considered involves vacuum distillation followed by a bottoms processing step such as solvent deasphalting or coking. These schemes can be further enhanced with the addition of a gasification step to convert the unsaleable, bottom-of-the-barrel residues into useful products, such as high-purity hydrogen for hydrotreating, electrical power, steam for enhanced oil recovery and distillation, etc. This paper describes the Texaco Gasification Process and the T-STARs hydrotreating process, and their application in an integrated upgrade processing scheme in which an optimal, virtually bottomless oil utilization can be achieved. Illustrative examples of this integration are provided with comparative economic information.

[Comparative psychosocial study of social values].

A culturally readapted scale of the classical Rokeach scale was applied to a 200-subject sample. Subjects were male and female workers on the one hand, and university men and women, on the other hand. The results of the different subsamples were compared by means of statistical techniques. Later, the same comparison was carried out with data from a similar study performed in Venezuela.

[Fibromyalgia: beyond the depression].

INTRODUCTION Depression has several ways to manifest: affective disorders, cognitive, sleep disturbance, difficulty in sexuality, appetite changes, behavioral changes, pain, paresthesia, headache, dizziness, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, respiratory, neurovegetative etc. Can fibromyalgia be another way to manifest depression? Or would we be talking about a higher degree of injury to the body that is manifested in this way because of the depression continued throughout life as a result of difficulties experienced by women? Is what we identify as beyond depression. OBJECTIVE To determine the causes of women who attributed the cause of fibromyalgia. Compare the current level of anxiety and depression, perceived health status of the group of women diagnosed with depression and those diagnosed with fibromyalgia. MATERIALS AND METHODS in-depth interviews with 20 women with fibromyalgia, 52 women with depression in primary care. Systematic sampling in different age groups in different clusters-quota-patients with non-response replenishment. Analysis secondary sources. RESULTS Women with fibromyalgia have increased work and family stress, perceived violence, perceived difficulties in childhood that women are only diagnosed depression. They also have a lower perception of their health. CONCLUSION Women diagnosed with fibromyalgia have made enormous psychosocial difficulties throughout their lives that have been identified as causative factors. The most important thing is that the society and physicians understand the disease.

Texaco coal-gasification process for production of clean synthesis gas from coke

Increasing supplies of petroleum coke have opened possibilities for extending the Texaco Coal Gasification Process to coke. The synthesis gas produced from coke can be used for the manufacture of methanol or oxo-products, for producing hydrogen for refineries and for ammonia synthesis or as a fuel for electric power generation. Extensive experimental work at Texaco's Montebello Research Laboratory has led to the development of a process which can be effectively used for gasifying petroleum coke. The technology is now being scaled up for commercial application. This paper presents a process description, experimental results, commercialization activities, and economics. 3 references.

Factores psicosociales asociados al agotamiento laboral del personal médico del Hospital Regional de Coatzacoalcos

El agotamiento laboral es un tipo de enfermedad que se presenta en el personal medico por factores tanto psicosociales de indole organizacional como del propio individuo, otros factores que pueden influir en la presencia de esta patologia son los de tipo meramente personal y que tienen que ver mas con la vida propia. Hoy en dia se practica un tipo de medicina defensiva que provoca que el personal medico este estresado desde el inicio de su jornada laboral, agregado a esto estan los salarios bajos, la falta de insumos etcetera. Este estudio sobre el agotamiento laboral (sindrome de Burnout) se llevara a cabo en el personal que labora en el Hospital Regional de Coatzacoalcos, todo con el fin de diagnosticar el grado del agotamiento que se esta presentando e identificar cuales factores estan influyendo para que se presente.

A new approach to the production of custom-made synthesis gas using Texaco's partial oxidation technology

The Texaco Synthesis Gas Generation Process (TSGGP) has been used commercially since 1950 to produce a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide - synthesis gas - by partial oxidation of hydrocarbons. Recent process developments and favorable economics have resulted in renewed interest in the partial oxidation of natural gas. This paper describes the main features of Texaco's partial oxidation technology and its ability to produce a wide range of pre-determined gas compositions to suit downstream requirements. The addition of controlled amounts of carbon dioxide or steam into the reaction system offers a simple method of adjusting the hydrogen-to-carbon oxide ratio of the product gas. The use of advanced computer control makes it possible to design the plant for on-line control and optimization, with flexibility for future operation at other regimes, depending on revised economic conditions. The paper describes some commercial applications to illustrate the process design flexibility.
