Characteristics of wide-band reflection of polymer-stabilised cholesteric liquid crystal cell prepared from an unsticking technique

An unsticking technique was applied for the fabrication of a polymer-stabilised cholesteric liquid crystal (PSCLC) cell. The template of polymer matrix in the planarly aligned cholesteric liquid crystal (Ch-LC) was perfectly preserved by lifting off the hydrophilic antisticking substrate. The desired PSCLC cell could then be obtained by injecting a third Ch-LC sample between two designed templates of PSCLC layer. By adjusting the pitch distribution in the two stacking templates, a reflectivity of nearly 50% incident light could be yielded and the bandwidth of the reflection spectrum could be controlled accurately in the PSCLC cell. Thus, a method to modulate the wide-band reflection of 50% visible light flux range was offered.

Enhancing the Performance of Perovskite Solar Cells by Extending the Terminal Conjugation of Spiro‐Type Hole Transport Material

Hole transport materials (HTM) play a vital role in the performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Optimizing the molecular structure of HTMs has been proven to be an important method for improving PSCs’ efficiency and stability. Herein, a novel dibenzofuran‐terminated spiro‐type HTM with extending π‐conjugation is designed and developed, named spiro‐BNF. The structure–property relationship is also studied with spiro‐OMeTAD and spiro‐DBF as the reference. The results show that spiro‐BNF has improved hole mobility and glass transition temperature (reaching 198 °C) than spiro‐OMeTAD and spiro‐BDF. spiro‐BNF also exhibits matched highest occupied molecular orbital level with perovskite and superior morphology on the perovskite layer. Accordingly, the PSCs employing spiro‐BNF display a higher power conversion efficiency of 23.65% and improved stability than the device employing spiro‐OMeTAD or spiro‐BDF. The findings provide a new insight for enhancing the performance of PSCs.

Highly efficient organic host/guest phosphorescent system with tunable lifetime and color

The tunability of organic room temperature phosphorescent (RTP) system is important but rarely reported. In this work, we report a series of host/guest ultralong organic room temperature phosphorescent materials with lifetime- and color-tuning properties. By doping a non-room temperature phosphorescence guest emitter 1, 8-Naphthalimide (NI) into a series of solid host matrices with higher triplet energy levels, the lifetime (0.20 s - 0.81 s) and color (yellow - green) of multiple RTP materials are realized. As the excitation wavelength is switched from 365 nm to 254 nm, the phosphorescent color changes significantly and the phosphorescent lifetime increases by a factor of almost two. Notably, the unique dual emission (fluorescence and phosphorescence) of the doped material 4BrBa-NI resulted in a different orange emission. The host/guest doping materials are prepared through co-crystallization or grinding, allowing for an efficient energy transfer from guest to host. The results indicate that strong intermolecular interactions and the intersystem crossing (ISC) ability of the guest play a significant role. In addition, the security protection and anti-counterfeit encryption applications for RTP materials are realized through various methods, such as handwritten pens, screen printing, and dynamic recognition of QR code, which significantly improves the commercial viability of the RTP materials.

Double UV polymerisation with variable temperature-controllable selective reflection of polymer-stabilised liquid crystal (PSLC) composites

In this study, a method of preparing wide-band reflection cholesteric liquid crystals (CLCs) films by UV-radical polymerisation in combination with UV-cationic polymerisation is proposed. Because the helical twisting power (HTP) of the chiral dopant decreases with increasing temperature and the polymerisation rate of UV-initiated free radical polymerisation is faster than UV-initiated cationic polymerisation, by adjusting the temperature, broadband reflective films with non-uniform pitch distribution are obtained. The fractured surface of the polymer network of the broadband reflective films is observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), which reveals the presence of non-uniform pitch distribution. In addition, the influences of monomer concentration, UV light intensity and UV curing time on the consequent non-uniform pitch distribution have been studied.

3D金属聚合物复合材料的表面增强拉曼散射检测片

金属薄膜是表面增强拉曼散射（SERS）衬底的有效等离子体源之一。但金属薄膜的表面等离子体共振效应远不如金属纳米粒子的等离激元间隙效应强。为了促进SERS基底的批量生产并促进实际应用，在SiO2蛋白石的帮助下，通过在半球形凸柔性衬底上涂覆金属薄膜和聚合物蛋白石纳米阵列来开发空间3D复合SERS检测片，以增强金属薄膜的表面等离子体共振（SPR）效果。研究结果表明，该复合材料的结构设计将金属膜基板SERS检测的检测限（LOD）提高到10-8 M，信号偏差的相对标准差（RSD）不大于8%。特别是，3D SERS 检测平板电脑可以满足广角检测的即时诊断需求。由于3D检测片的SERS性能保持不变，当基板从0°倾斜到75°的角度时，由于金属聚合物纳米结构的旋转对称性。而在实际应用中，3D SERS检测片能够检测汗液中纳米级的尿素分子，这表明这种3D片剂具有低成本商业化的潜力和现场检测能力。

Imprinted Limited Domain Aptamer Electrochemical Sensors Based on Dual Signal Amplification of Gocs Composites and Gold Nanoparticles for Specifically Detection of Cd2+

An ultra-sensitive electrochemical sensor based on glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with carbon disulfide functionalized graphene oxide (GOCS)/gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and dual recognition of aptamer/ion imprinting polymer (IIP) is proposed for the detection of Cd2+. The inherent layered structure of GOCS composites is convenient to provide high specific surface area, AuNP can improve electrode activity and the synergistic effect between the two materials contributes to further modification and signal amplification. The IIP cadmium ion imprinted cavities on the surface of electrode by electropolymerization can achieve the specific detection of Cd2+. Owing to the dual specific recognition provided by IIP and aptamer and the multiple signal amplification provided by GOCS and AuNPs. In the linear range of 0.4 - 30μg / L, the sensor exhibits high detection response toward target Cd2+, with a detection limit of 0.15 μg/L. The sensor had outstanding selectivity, excellent reproducibility, long-term stability and good reusability. Furthermore, this method can realize the detection of Cd2+ in real water samples with recovery rate of 86.5% - 104.70% (RSD=0.07% - 9.65%). This electrochemical strategy opens up more possibilities for the construction of trace detection of Cd2+ with record-high selectivity and sensitivity in water samples.

Third-order nonlinear optical properties of a novel series of D-π-A pyrene-aldehyde derivatives

A series of mono-substituted pyrene derivatives having a pyrene mesogenic core and aldehyde group peripherals were designed and synthesized, which had typical D-[Formula: see text]-A structures. Photophysical properties of the compounds were characterized by UV/Vis spectroscopy and the third-order nonlinearities of the compounds were studied by “open aperture” and “closed aperture” [Formula: see text]-scan techniques. Both of the compounds showed typical nonlinear absorptions and refractions, and the third-order nonlinear susceptibilities have been found to be very high in all cases. The significant nonlinear optical response combined with the possibility to further modify it, by changing the electron acceptor and the electron-donor groups, suggests that these systems can prove to be important candidates for a variety of photonic/optoelectronic applications.

Pitch gradient induced by disklike chiral molecular diffusion in chiral-nematic liquid crystals

Disklike molecules were introduced as chiral dopants to induce a pitch gradient in the polymer stabilized cholesteric liquid crystals films. A sandwich-cell was fabricated with two different substrates, one of which was coated by the disklike molecule layer and another by a parallel-aligned pattern of polyvinyl alcohol. The pitch gradient was formed by molecular diffusion across the film thickness and further stabilized by photo-initiated crosslinking of the polymerizable monomers during the diffusion process. The effect of the deposition amount of the disklike chiral molecules on the diffusion rate and the consequent pitch gradient was studied.

Effects of a chemically modified multiwall carbon nanotubes on electro-optical properties of PDLC films

Polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) films are fabricated by well-known polymerization-induced phase separation method. In this paper, the dispersion of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) in liquid crystals has been enhanced by chemical modification and we have investigated their effects on the morphology, electro-optical properties and conductivity of the PDLC films. Results indicated that the threshold voltage and the saturation voltage of PDLC films decreased with the increase of the doping concentration of MWCNT or chemically modified MWCNT, because carbon nanotubes can enhance the electric field by reducing the resistivity of the medium and increasing the capacitance of the cells. It can be viewed obviously that the contrast ratio of the PDLC films doped with the chemically modified MWCNT is higher than that of the MWCNT.

Bioinspired Screening of Anti-Adhesion Peptides against Blood Proteins for Intravenous Delivery of Nanomaterials

Nanomaterials (NMs) inevitably adsorb proteins in blood and form "protein corona" upon intravenous administration as drug carriers, potentially changing the biological properties and intended functions. Inspired by anti-adhesion properties of natural proteins, herein, we employed the one-bead one-compound (OBOC) combinatorial peptide library method to screen anti-adhesion peptides (AAPs) against proteins. The library beads displaying random peptides were screened with three fluorescent-labeled plasma proteins. The nonfluorescence beads, presumed to have anti-adhesion property against the proteins, were isolated for sequence determination. These identified AAPs were coated on gold nanorods (GNRs), enabling significant extension of the blood circulating half-life of these GNRs in mice to 37.8 h, much longer than that (26.6 h) of PEG-coated GNRs. In addition, such AAP coating was found to alter the biodistribution profile of GNRs in mice. The bioinspired screening strategy and resulting peptides show great potential for enhancing the delivery efficiency and targeting ability of NMs.
